Sorry everyone, hopefully I haven't offended anyone, there isn't be anything in my rant that is offensive, but , you never know...........it just so annoys me that common sense and mutual respect in my beautiful green and ancient land has gone...probably forever.
@mollymoo71 Wholeheartedly agree old chap. Perhaps if the entire populace had a good "Rant", certain messages might get through. Regarding your friend, and as equality between EU states was being discussed and as a topic......Would such a situation arise in France, Germany,Italy or in any other state,?. IMHO, No it wouldn't. Only in GB.
I'd love Rockall, don't waste, send him to me instead, I've got people at hand who can solve the problem.
A Court had set a wolf-pack of sexual abusers free last year, on legal niceties, even if everybody knew they were guilty, the week after, all 6 of them were found castrated & death.
@vaxiawval I like your system of Justice Vaxi. Put a Paedo into a room full of mothers and lock the door or a rapist in a room with the girls Father, brothers or husband. Mind you, our system does have it's good points should they get put in prison. The regular crims just drool at the thought of a "Nonce" joining them.
It's not mine, Sir, a cannot accept the appreciation, it's the locals', it's called the "Secret Revenge Tribunal" and has a full system of articles, written in a legalese a bit more understandable than ours, but same style.
It's illegal since a few hundreds years, but, apparently, works so well that still survives.
The problem is that they shoot for a lot of much lesser offences, a little gymnastik with their willing daughters included.
@gilnod In my humble opinion, he should be sent back. You reap what you sow, the UK spends too much money and time trying to do things that are 'perceived' to be correct rather than doing things that are correct.
@mollymoo71 Completely agree molly. The British public does not have a problem with the EU in its original format & i suspect a few other countries feel the same way. The "mission creep" of laws designed to incorporate all the EU countries cannot take precedence over one country"s national sovereignty in implementing its own laws as legislated by their own parliaments. This is the fundimental problem with the EU & why you have so much hostility.
@gilnod You know something Gilnod? The British public are sick and tired with a lot of things. A mate of mine is due in court for an alledged racist attack. One of our Pakistani friends walked out in front on my mates car causing him to stamp on the breaks. My mate shouted 'It's a road, not a pavement'. The Asian fellow then spat at the window where my mates son was sat. My mate confronted him face to face. No racist comment was made yet he was arrested last week for a racist assault.
@gilnod cont..... Whilst I applaud any action against racists, there is too much of the 'compensation' issue and 'blame culture' going on. Unfortunately Britain is turning from a milti-cultural society into a biggoted one because of a 'few'. We have public toilets in our City which 'white' people cannot use. The authorities are so frightened of being called racist, that the 'white' people are now secondary in their thoughts. I deplore racism. The PC brigade are f***ing this country up!
it hurts to watch old 60's tv[or older]and see what great machines we used to drive.Apples to oranges compared to new ones, but the old ones had style, and room, looked american.Who gets conceived in the back seat anymore?
@vaxiawval If you stood on the brakes, and floored the gas on a Toronado, you could peel rubber from the front wheels.4 4 2,with the 450 cu V8,only car with front wheel drive in the states when it came out,a real beast. The engine often found it's way into lobster boats
@bv141a I've been lucky to have a '77 Caprice Classic (5 babies could be conceived in that back seat at the same time) and a '78 Corvette. My favourites have to be the GTO's, Roadrunners, '64 Impala (no, I am not a rapper) and the SS Chevelles and Camaros. Oh, I forgot the Superbees!!! beautiful styling. I've never been a fan of Mustangs, but I do like the '73 Mach 1's.
Those who don't want UK to leave EU will be pissed by someone who speaks seriously and presents a 4-5 years step-by-step political & economical executive program to do such an extremely complex thing.
Not by an ignorant broker who farts wind & insults.
I can understant the aversion but I'm afraid I am of the view that a quick method is best. 410 to pulp it head, fair enough! I didn't like what they were doing at this "Roundup" (I seem to recall that being the phrase. My oppo took his life in his hands though. he came into possession of a large rattle (from one of these creatures), Had about 9 segments and he went around behind the rest of our party members shaking the thing...
@hopeurforfreedom Texas....Uncivilized place. Went to "festival" thinking it was an ordinary carnival type thing. It was awful to see people acting in such a manner. They must have rounded up every rattlesnake in a 20 mile radius of Sweetwater and poor old snikies were paraded killed and eaten,(and fed to visiting Englishmen without telling him what it was...until he'd eaten it!!!) skins made into "things. Horrible place.
@SuperAncientmariner The bad thing about rattlesnakes, is they look for warm places and drilling rigs happen to have engines and the snakes like to cozy up near them at night. We have a special disdain for them and are dispatched with a .410 shotgun. Granted, I don't care for these rattlesnake hunts, but I understand folks hate for these creatures. As for the Dickens festival, it is a contrast, but if folks think Oklahoma is a backwater place, West Texas is damn hell hole.
@hopeurforfreedom . Mind you my uncle was in the Marines in Rangoon and was just standing up after using the thunderbox and about to pull his trousers up and found himself going eye to eye with a bloody great Cobra. He was in the semi stoop for a long long time. and was only assisted when he was late for guard duty and his CSM came looking for him.
@vaxiawval Country music is why I have Sirius. Country music makes me want to puke. I can listen to Johnny Cash and Marty Robins but the others I can live without.
There are exceptions to everything, "Rawhide" is one of my favourite songs, were it comes from or if fully qualifies as "Country", I cannot say, though
I hated this stuff when I was a boy, totally lost with high-speed, high-tech & science-fiction the way I was (and am still now).
Later, going in deserts made me appreciate something but I don't think I've seen a whole western movie in my life, I noticed rawhide in the "Blues Brothers"
But some scenes from the '60 are very nice. Practically whatever comes from the early '60 looks better, specially from USA & UK, the disaster began in the '70 from my point of view.
@vaxiawval Americans lost alot of wealth, and moral phocus fighting the Vietnam war.Traded the draft for a standing army of proffesionals.the US military never really stood down from Vietnam,Pax America has been very expensive.winning the cold war doesn't seem worth much.1966 was a good year for the states 1969 if you like American cars
@bv141a Hey bv, if my memory is correct it is 32 years today that the UCGC Blackthorn went down with 23 lost. Thoughts and respect to to the USCG service from a brother seaman.
@SuperAncientmariner Blackthorns sinking was after my time, but i'm familur with the 180 ft bouytenders. The report on the accident looks like the Coastguard bridge watch screwed up,got to far to the center of the ship channel and got slammed by the larger tanker.Ensign on the con.Prehaps now that a computer mans the bridge on cutters[no more QMOW]we'll no longer suffer from human error....right
@hopeurforfreedom When in Rome do as the ...but I'm with you, crying wailing country music gets old, alittle Patsy Cline goes along way.I've heard west Texas was rather barren,so flat a man can walk all day and still see his abandoned truck
@hopeurforfreedom Yet, I also recall (in Galveston I think it was ) they had a Charles Dickens themed festival with people parading around in period dress. Talk about a contrast.
Gilnod, the illegals were abandoned by their smugglers, once across the border. I have never seen such a pitiful lot, begging for water, made me want to cry. They were good people looking for a better life in America. Tis' people such as these that made America great.... In my opinion, anyone who is willing to work should be allowed to come to America....
@hopeurforfreedom All thru history America has been the land of the free & the "American Dream" obviously holds true for a lot of the illegals that cross into your country. No man with any decency would turn their back on such a pitifull sight, so i take my hat off to you hope, lets hope they find what they"re looking for.
I"m not a big fan of country music either hope, but check out Skeeter Davis, the finest country singer ever to come out of America.
@gilnod The Mexicans crossing the border are mostly good people, looking for a better life. Politicians are unwilling to put a system into place that allows those wanting work to come here legally. The problem with the illegals stems from the heavy financial burden they place upon our states and cities, as they need healthcare and housing. Ranchers are very vulnerable to robbery and they tear down fences which allows cattle to roam.
@NobIeKorhedron Well This one Does, if you want to know why then go Study, as the RN has long since explained it's reasoning for the Dual-Islands Design
(way back in 2006).
Seperately: Leave the Vulgarisms out next time, as such Base Language is not Indicative of Intelligence, but the opposite thereof
That said before the Industrial Revolution Steam Engines weren't exactly a practical proposition, as the ability to Manufacture the High Grade Iron & Steel in the Ammounts Required simply didn't exist.
The theory of a Steam Engine certainly predates the 1700's, but never progressed beyond Small Tabletop Toys, for the aforementioned reasons.
Please never think I'm democratic, such a ridiculous concept would never have came to my mind, hadn't I been thought it, I'm by far too intelligent, ever to joke such a thing may exist.
I've dug out a promising channel were a social experiment can be performed, so I suppose.
Such Experiment will be: transform the current preponderant hate for Germany of the large number of democratic retardheads present there in hate for UK.
@bv141a, all you have have to do is google "Lincoln and Indians", you will see why we see Lincoln as one step short of hitler, may he rot in hell.....
@hopeurforfreedom Stop it Hope,Lincoln is one of the best, ethnic cleansing Indians for railroads was once part of the railroad business.I'd think Jackson would be more in your crosshairs,he was the genocide pres.
@bv141a I've missed the last two weeks, but most whites raised on the frontier didn't care for my Indian folks, understandable. However, Abraham Lincoln is hated in my quarters. In my opinion, John W. Booth should have had a fucking shotgun to blow his brains all over Fords theatre. His treatment of the American Indian makes the treatment of America's blacks look tame. Sorry to be blunt, be he was a racist who needed killing. History aside, he tortured my forefathers through starvation.
@gilnod No, had to take a trip to hell, west Texas, why anyone would live there is beyond me, oil or no oil, west Texas is God's hell hole. No one should live there.
@gilnod Texas has huge populations, but centered in Houston and Dallas/Ft. Worth areas. West Texas belongs to the sage brush, mesquite and wetbacks (Obama's future voters, ie illegals). I will never, ever, take another job there. If it weren't for satellite tv and sirius radio, I would have gone berserk. Every damn day, winds 40 mph, dust and fat women at convenience stores. Had 6 illegal Mexicans come to our rig, begging for food and water. So damn sad, we are in the desert, had to help.
Our good vet adminnistration renewed my optical perscription, put me thru the eye drill, got me new glass's.I've ben ace-ing the squiggle sht.but...enough,you must be far into it as well,Back to real world,g,night
Con Coughlin, the Telegraph's executive foreign editor, is a world-renowned expert on the Middle East and Islamic terrorism. He is the author of several critically acclaimed books. His new book, Khomeini's Ghost, is published by Macmillan.
2nd Golden Mongoloid (special)
to who has written the description of Con Coughlin on Telegraph
I have noticed over the years that ,whenever our forces fight side by side, it it never a case of US and British (or Australian, or French, or inner Mongolian) forces., but US and allied forces. Political expediency I presume and no disrespect intended but no, I do not think Pax Americana would fly any ensign other than Old Glory.
@SuperAncientmariner So while ranting along with Vax,I've multitasked reading Winstons,The Gathering Storm, finished book one,From War to war 1919-39.I used to think Suly harsh for blaming WW2 on Britain,With Eden so upset that he walks on chamberlains govt, because of diplomatic errors,I'm not so sure that Sury isn,t right.Winston says as much,Disrespect the Reds, blow off FDR,cut side deals with Germany, all in Hitlers favor.Poor old Eden.Brit lion brought down by Brit sheep
@bv141a Ah, Winny loosing sleep over Edens resignation. I never beleived that.Eden resigned over Chamberlains appeasment policy re Musso the Wop. IMHO, it wasn't his policy over Italy s,movements but the timing of it and how far it was to go. After all , he didn't object to appeasing Hitlers plans. And he only started agreeing with Winston once he (Winny) became PM.
@SuperAncientmariner Eden leaves on FDR getting blown off,feb 38 FDR offers to pressure Italt on submarine piracy,Ethiopia, enter European politics, big step for FDR.Chamberlain says never mind,we have everything in control, you yanks will only confuse the situation...Winstons book
@bv141a "The reason for my resignation was that we had an agreement with Mussolini about the Mediteranean and Spain which he was violating by sending troops to Spain. Chamberlainwanted a fresh agreement. I though Mussolini should honour the first one before re negotiating. I could not go along with Chamberlains policy"
Sir Anthoney Eden. in a 1967 interview with the New York Times
@SuperAncientmariner FDR and Eden had simular views, and the timing is the same.Italian subs were sinking republican ships.FDR wanted freedom of the seas inforced,no pirate subs.Eden supported the american back channel initiative, was not happy to see it squashed
@bv141a Italian subs were complimenting German U-boats. Britain, France and US had all agreed to stay neutral, which is why Eden probably told FDR to keep out (Even though Americans were fightng in it) Why did FDR not speak against the USSR backing Franco, as were Germany and Italy. Eden gives a different reason
As I understand things, a lot of what Winston wrote in 48 is now being challenged.as not being quite as he recalls it.
No, I don't have the book, I'm relying on memories of many...
@SuperAncientmariner I know enough about Brit politics to keep far away,I've a pedestrian view at best.Winston was the man on the spot, and I beleive a real savior to our western world.Could of caved summer 1940,but he had his political side, his job.you question his recollection of events or motives remembering them?
@bv141a He only came to power in 1940.I don't question his recollections of events. Those questions are raised by greater minds than mine, as Government papers and file come to light, and previously secret documents come into the public domain.
I am at least 5 hours ahead of you and I am now going to my pit. Talk again.
@bv141a hours of study at school and Uni all those years ago. The Spanish civil war is not one I've ever had much interest in. It was , in my view, another conflict between factions of one country and other countries, UK, France USA Italy Russia should have butted out and let them get on with it...exactly the same as Libya today
@SuperAncientmariner Lessons to be learned in Spain Ancient,When you go red you can catch a bad dose of the Nazi's.Go off the deep end, start raping nuns and burning priests, loot the Church. You get bad guys, who may look like sorta good guys,Franco, the oldest nazi
@SuperAncientmariner britain manages to piss on the only two nations who can help her against germany, russia, and the USA.Refuses to take a stand against Germany when she has more military stength, and when she no longer has, then draws a line in the sand on Poland.Hitlers the boogy man,but look who openrd the door
@bv141a I'm intrigued to know when exactly in the mid to late 30s did Britain have a stronger military than Germany. And Russia was not included in the 1936 Czechoslovakia discussions between Germany Britain and France because Hitlers anti Soviet views would have made it pointless.
@SuperAncientmariner I bet you have Winny's book on your shelf,I'm only stating what I'm reading. He footnotes his and Stalins discussion of the molotove nazi deal.Stalin shares his views Chamberlain screwing up.How do you trust a man who murderd his own party[long knives]not the Stalin wouldn't understand such reasoning
@SuperAncientmariner Why would the worlds leading seapower cut a side deal with Germany to allow her a defensive fleet of submarines and commerce raiders,in hindsight rather short sighted to be kind, whens that 1933,great timing
@bv141a You refer to the AGNA treaty of 1935. When Hitler took power Germany violated the Versailles treaty and the Washington treaty in there warship building programme including U-Boats. The Anglo German Naval Agreement of 1935 was agreed to prevent Germany building even more, which Germany agreed to , and when its target was reached,.... just carried on building. Wasn't shortsightedness. It was a naive believe that Hitler could be trusted
@bv141a Before I go, the submarines that were allowed for by the AGNA were coastal subs. As I said, the treatment was violated. What they built aint what we agreed .
@bv141a The classification of these boats was quite easy. The coastal(defence) boats were 250 t0 500 tons.(as were minelayers), Sea going were 500 to 750 tons, The later Ocean going -1000+ tons. and the "Milch Cows" were 1500 +. As the little type 2s were 500 tons max, I tink there can be no doubt as to what they were.
@SuperAncientmariner I understand the classifications, but those 'Canoes" who found their way down the Danube river, engaged in offensive patrols.A defensive submarine can be deployed offensively, only a beaurocrate would try to label a sub one or the other
@bv141a Woah there bv. Those type 2 boats were dismantled at Kiel and went down the Danube by raod and canal barge. And didn't do anything until 1942.
And when they were first allowed, therewas no reason why they should point at a freighter unless that freighter was threatning their coast.
@SuperAncientmariner Allowing the Germans to have defensive subs was mad,I don't believe the term" defensive submarine"not if the vessel has torpedo's aimed at a freighter
@vaxiawval Maybe your right vaxi, America"s coming out to play down in Hormuz, we"ve sent a few toys down there to keep them company. EU wags a finger, Iran sticks 2 back. We are no bigger a giant in EU than France or Germany, either militarily or economicly, but when the shit hits the fan down there(as it looks like it will,) I hope those 2 act like the giants they think they are.
Hormuz? I'd prefer to speak of Ales, I must confess that, as Bv141a has correctly stated ago, because who the un-drunk cannot be trusted, I had to drink something when I served, because the Bottles were many, different & nice, I used to drink special & rare belgian biers & trappistes, lacking these, Guinness I may try to remember which tasted less horrible.
It depends for what, as "Total defense" you are the only one in EU nuclear serious, I don't trust French in war (free Normandie!)
@vaxiawval Lol......In Yumbo in Gran, I had to put a pint of Guinness on the table for protection from the beautiful people......glass stayed full all night, got pissed on San Miguel...lol.
@gilnod I'm not sure what geehrter is so I will say it roughly means very well or quite right(?) Professor Gilnod.(my German is rusty or mein Deutsch ist sehr rostig)
This is the right moment to start an anti-american (interference!, they drag us in their imperialism, secret jails in EU, there's a lot....) & anti-british propaganda (they stayed as long as it was good, now, at the first problem, betray & run off, they enjoyed the pros, want none of cons ..., hey, why they didn't go out in less suspect times?)
Nothing like an external enemy packs retards.
I'll create EU nationalism, gimme a TV & a newspaper.
@vaxiawval Viele Danke, mein freund. What pros are these that we have enjoyed.? A lot of us wanted out when it went beyond what we signed up to. Mind you a lot of us did not want to join in the first place.
don't think I ever take anything lightly, much less the opposition of people like you, compared to my enthusiasm of a year ago, when I thought that british opposers to EU were nothings like faringe, I got a bit more informed, and I'd say now there are strong signals UK in EU is no good for both, not in the current form for sure.
@vaxiawval It's Farage (pronounced like Garage ; ). Whom on our end is anything but a ""nothing"", quite the reverse in fact as UKIP is our country's IVth largest political party
Farage is also probably one of the only contempory British Politicians to be consistantly popular at home
(not least for his knack in Oratory Circles, & support of Increasing the Defense Budget).
@SuperAncientmariner Very true. And my answer would be , as I have said before, that those in power do not listen to their people, never have and IMHO never will. The EU is not ,in any way, shape or form, like the EEC , which is what we signed up to.
@vaxiawval No idea Vax, but it goes to show what I mean about not listening to the plebs. One of Camerons many empty pledges was that we would have a referendum on continued membership. Have we had it, have we heck!
As you say, it is not good for us or you. I personaly would pull us out tomorrow, just as a lot of your side of the channel would kick us out. Nothing personal. (well unless you are French.)
On the Cruiser Classfication Issue: As the Source that convinced me of it being Armor Thickness is currently unavailable to me (i used to believe it was Gun Calibre too), i shall back down on it (for the present anyway).
@vaxiawval Hmm, a very European Perspective of things
(as i expected from the start ; )
Then again it's natural the Sprouts (our Nickname for non-British EU Politicans) would think poorly of him, as he doesn't exactly mince his words, and rightly so as far as i ( and many Brit's on YT & offline will attest) am concerned.
Agree to Disagree, on this Issue, i suspect we must, hmm?
@vaxiawval The reason Farage is classed as an eternal bore in EU parliament is because he is the minority voice who wants to reform/change or bring down the whole rotten structure. The majority of EU parliament is made up of flunkies(yes, inc some of our own) who are more interested in the perks they can screw out of it. Hopefully, these flunkies will get pissed off with us moaning about them they"ll chuck us out.
By the way vaxi, when was the last time the EU accounts were signed off?.
@vaxiawval Its a long & complex judgement vaxi, but basically boils down to the fact he came here on a forged passport, has links to Al-Qaeda, & has been tried & convicted in his own country(Jordan). We are trying to deport him back there, but he is using Article 6 of the Human Rights Act(right to a fair trial) on the grounds that torture may be used to obtain evidence. Jordan has given assurances to the UK Govt. that torture will not be used, but our judges will still not deport him.
EuroJudges said they didn't accept Abu Qatada's claims that he would face ill treatment or torture at the hands of Jordanian authorities if sent there for trial, citing recent agreements between Jordan and the U.K.
BUT
" ... the evidence of his involvement had been obtained by torturing one of his co-defendants."
Jordans have already tortured the other guy, it seems
@vaxiawval Your missing my point vaxi. I agree with you on the torture issue, but my point is that the 46 foreign nationals & one UK member of the ECHR, has usurped the authority of the highest court in our land based on Article 6, which is tenuous at best, given the assurances that Jordan has given. The rights of this man does not preclude him from facing trial for crimes allegedly committed in his own country. The ECHR reason for interpretation of Article 6 in this case is beyond belief.
The point seems to be torture obtained evidence is there already, so, not connected with jordan assurances to UK now.
The ECHR is usurping nothing, they are doing their work, according to powers given them by UK, well or bad, this is a different matter.
Yes there's a lot of opposition, if you check YT, you'll see that farage is becoming the hero of the jolly Club Mediterrané & Merkel n°1 enemy, Sarkozy 2nd & there's a bullet for Monti
We keep the afloat, so their public opinion hate us.
Now, I fully agree that EU is something else than EEC, but, the british parliament cannot come out tomorrow with: "Hello Bruxelles, we realize now, you're not what our people voted for, so by by" such things, are not made this way, as you know perfectly well.
Using a Referendum, I'd say %, for a fair decision, should be comparable with those of 1975, which were a soundly 67.2% In, 32.8% out.
@vaxiawval At the end of the day vaxi, it all comes down to what mariner said. We have had one referendum to join an organisation that bears no resemblance to what we have now. In 37yrs we have had numerous changes which our political masters have said have been good for the country & people, but we have never been giving a say on whether we agree with them. It was simply hoped the public would"nt understand the complexities, well we do & we dont like it, & now we want that voice heard.
@SuperAncientmariner Today I learned that my old Rate [job] has been replaced by technology in the modern USCG.No more Quartermasters on the bridge,no human on the wheel. Now a Bowswains mate plugs in the computer, and preforms bridge duty.It was once a promotion for a Bowswain to get in the pilot house and strike for QM,now QM is gone
@SuperAncientmariner Reading back aways, there was something you mentioned about "PT" sessions with stubborn people that rang a bell.and also that you were with FOST. Did you, by some chance, teach tactical navigation at one point. If it is you, drop me line on private. I already did to you, but I don't know if you saw it. Perhaps "the Duck" will give you a clue.
@vaxiawval This is a bit like the debate hope & mariner was having. I agree, 49% out, 40% in is not an overwhelming majority, but it is a majority over the minority. The political nightmare comes about because the minority would hold most of the supposed great & the good of this country who have the political savvy & their own financial interest to stay within the EU. The majority is the man in the street who only see injustices imposed by sycophantics both elected & unelected.
The nightmare is the numbers, mate, for to say who these people are, is not part of a democratic process.
What I think, but, really, it's a sensation, data I can trust have I not &, 'cause I'm sure such things are not available on net, digging for them:=timewasting, is that your gov is doing & will do, the only thing they can do: a silent retreat.
How effective your politicians are able to set up such a program, which must be discreet & hidden in it's contents, I cannot say.
@gilnod More Accurately the Government Cannot Hold a Referendum on Europe yet, in part because of the ruddy Liberal's (i've actually met Nick Clegg, he really is as inept & ignorant as he appears), and also because if we did right now the Europeans would find some way to get back us back for it (wouldn't be the first time).
Scotland: Westminster is wise to Strangle that Issue in the Cradle, before it becomes any more troublesome. That & they can Annul any Negative result.
@TSR1989FF Dont think Westminster wants to strangle the issue ts, they want the referendum before Salmond does.
As far as Parliament annulling any negative result goes, well, a referendum is only an advisory policy with no legal status so a negative result could be annulled, but if the people of Scotland vote for independence, & Parliament annulls it, the troubles in Northern Ireland would be a cake walk compared to what would happen up there, IMHO.
@gilnod "they want the referendum before Salmond does"
EXACTLY my point Gilly, by getting a Ref' conducted now they will strangle the issue before it has any meaningful risk of gaining popular support.
And no it wouldn't, the SNP doesn't even have a Military Wing, nor any Libyan Dictators or Sympathetic Yank's to Supply them with Guns & Explosives, plus the Military would never support the SNP Luddites (their loyalty is to Her Majesty alone), they'd hang em from the yardarm
@TSR1989FF Point taken on your first paragraph ts.
On your second point, i hope your right. This Salmond guy looks a right slithery bastard to me, & he"s just the type of guy to stir up confrontation if a referendum went against him.
Lets be honest, its HIM that this is all about, its HIM thats driving it. He wants to make his mark on history & he aint gonna stop till he does.
@gilnod Indeed, technically we all want to make our own mark on History, as...
"Every great event, every Battle, every Empire, is written down for posterity. It's only through History that we really Exist, & we, should be a part of it" - Edward Teach 1700's
Although the kind of mark Salmon Features wants to make, is Not the kind any of us want, nor that many of my Northern Bretherin (i'm a Dal Riatan Scot by immediate heritage). After all this is Great Britain, not Checoslovakia.
@gilnod Much better we wait for either the EU to Stabilize, or to Fall Apart Altogether
(holding a Referendum then would have less backlog, if any at all).
Either way, we Brit's Will get out of the EU (just not immediately), & destroy the SNP's credibility (& any scant chances it ever had of succeeding) thus keeping the United Kingdom together, of that i have no doubt whatsoever.
Hi gilnod......Well in my opinion, it is certainly your right to decide where you wish to take your country. Indeed it is your obligation to be involved in a vote for the UK's future.
If your question refers to Scottish independence, there is a debate going on now on whether the rest of the UK should be involved in this referendum rather than just the Scots.
If your refering to EU, my feeling is we will never get a vote. The issue is very complex, & views are very polarised for & against. The best i can hope for is Europe pushing us to far & our Govt. deciding enough is enough, but i aint holding my breath.
Hi gilnod! Things are going great with me. The Primary election season is well and truly underway here! lol!
I was referring to the EU, but I suppose the same stands with the continued Union of the UK. I think there needs to be a clear communication with the EU on what can be negotiated on and what is beyond the bounds of negotiation.
@suryavajra Well, i"m not Camerons biggest fan, but he"s starting to draw the line in the sand as far as the Euro(money), & the Human Rights Court is concerned, so im hopefull.
We"re getting coverage of the Primary"s over here, nothing to do with policies mind you, it all seems to be about tax evasion & who was screwing who, where & when...lol.
I"ve said it before on here sury, Obama"s your man, he"s doin OK.
Nice work in Somalia by the way, congrats to Seal 6.
Oh yeah, Seal Team Six or DEVGRU certainly continue to amaze us with their heroism and daring.
Well if this economy recovers and we're seeing signs all across the board it's recovering by election day, then there's not much the Republicans either, Gingrich or Romney can do.
But yeah they are taking wicked jabs at each other and the Republican Party is dividing.
At first I thought Gingrich had stolen my 5l bottle of piedmontese wine gulping it before the speech, but no, it's still there.
So he must have used kentucky bourbon, I suppose.
The idea is interesting though. What is needed is a couple trillion $ program for a cost-effective Moon-Launcher & dig out of wild fantasy a possible economic or scientific use for a human-base on a dusty gravitational hole not much better than Earth.
@SuperAncientmariner Netanyahoo's bankers are putting up the money to keep Ginrich in the race.Unlimited campain money has made some interesting bed fellows. What sort of payback does Israel expect for their millions,I hope they just piss it away,Newt isn't happening
@suryavajra Last nights cbs news,a rich Israeli/American Vegas casino owner is bankrolling his[Newts] major superpac.Overseas money in American elections, great, more democracy at work.....not
HAHA!! Effin' Israelis. I wonder how they'd feel if we started infiltrating their elections with American money and demanded Israeli politicians not second guess America.
@suryavajra If you called the Israeli's out ,tried to draw a line between American and Israeli policy's,they scream antisemitism.Where American interests stop, and Israeli begin,no one wants to go their.Israel wants to buy our election, what will they pay to buy a war?
That is true. At a certain point, you gotta stop and just let 'em scream their heads off. A peeve of mine is when American politicians outdo each other in trying to be loyal to a country that is not the one they are actually living in...lol!
@suryavajra Did you catch the Ancient and I discussing Winston Churchills's"The gathering storm"?You.and Winston share the same view on Brit aid tp Poland, the cat was out of the bag.Couple days back
That is sadly, as you point out the case. It never fails to amaze me how Republicans and Democrats alike are far more hawkish in defending Israel's borders than our own.
@suryavajra To just continue your train of thought is to risk being labeled antisematic. We have become so politicaly correct,to be stupid.DC is not the capitol of Israel, yet sometimes you wouldn't know it
HAHA!! Well there are many risks in life my friend. I can go out on the road tomorrow and be hit by a truck. i suppose the risk of being called an antisemite then, is one we ought to live with so long as we talk about this issue. And this is an issue that ought to be talked about.
But you're totally right. Yet the lobbyists over there of an Israeli PAC are basically vetting candidates before we the American people ever get a chance to vet them...
@suryavajra Call me naive sury, but i dont know why the Special Forces from all the NATO countries cant just go down there & wipe these bloody pirates off the face of the earth.
On the Rep. Party, Obama dont need to do anything, he just has to sit back & watch them destroy themselves. Seems to me they"re making themselves unelectable.
On what I read on the Independent, the Court took the decision not to allow deportation because: "He would be tried by the Jordanians using evidence that had undoubtedly been obtained through torture".
Shall I shuffle for the original sentence? no need to tear you, after reading a full legal document the like, we'll be both death for sure.
UK is not Eurozone, and for sure you'll not be for many years, should even this Euro-War come out with a glorious European Victory (and this will never) and the trend of Euroskepticism be totally inverted, how much a non-argument Human Rights Court is for UK you can understand reading Sir Nicolas Bratza comments on The Independent.
Yes, a line in the sand, made of nothing, waiting for next tide.
I hope he speaks of serious things sometimes too.
@vaxiawval I know the eurozone is not UK, i was talking about using British £"s to prop up the Euro.
As for Bratza, your right, he"s a nonentity who extols the decrees of an organisation that upholds the rights of minority individuals that transgress the rights of the overall majority.
Did you know, he never even served as a judge before being appointed to the ECHR?.
Sorry everyone, hopefully I haven't offended anyone, there isn't be anything in my rant that is offensive, but , you never know...........it just so annoys me that common sense and mutual respect in my beautiful green and ancient land has gone...probably forever.

vaxiawval 15 hours ago
@gilnod In my humble opinion, he should be sent back. You reap what you sow, the UK spends too much money and time trying to do things that are 'perceived' to be correct rather than doing things that are correct.
mollymoo71 15 hours ago
@mollymoo71 Completely agree molly. The British public does not have a problem with the EU in its original format & i suspect a few other countries feel the same way. The "mission creep" of laws designed to incorporate all the EU countries cannot take precedence over one country"s national sovereignty in implementing its own laws as legislated by their own parliaments. This is the fundimental problem with the EU & why you have so much hostility.
gilnod 13 hours ago
@gilnod You know something Gilnod? The British public are sick and tired with a lot of things. A mate of mine is due in court for an alledged racist attack. One of our Pakistani friends walked out in front on my mates car causing him to stamp on the breaks. My mate shouted 'It's a road, not a pavement'. The Asian fellow then spat at the window where my mates son was sat. My mate confronted him face to face. No racist comment was made yet he was arrested last week for a racist assault.
mollymoo71 2 hours ago
@gilnod cont..... Whilst I applaud any action against racists, there is too much of the 'compensation' issue and 'blame culture' going on. Unfortunately Britain is turning from a milti-cultural society into a biggoted one because of a 'few'. We have public toilets in our City which 'white' people cannot use. The authorities are so frightened of being called racist, that the 'white' people are now secondary in their thoughts. I deplore racism. The PC brigade are f***ing this country up!

Horrible place.
SuperAncientmariner 2 days ago
@SuperAncientmariner The bad thing about rattlesnakes, is they look for warm places and drilling rigs happen to have engines and the snakes like to cozy up near them at night. We have a special disdain for them and are dispatched with a .410 shotgun. Granted, I don't care for these rattlesnake hunts, but I understand folks hate for these creatures. gilnod 1 day ago

@SuperAncientmariner So while ranting along with Vax,I've multitasked reading Winstons,The Gathering Storm, finished book one,From War to war 1919-39.I used to think Suly harsh for blaming WW2 on Britain,With Eden so upset that he walks on chamberlains govt, because of diplomatic errors,I'm not so sure that Sury isn,t right.Winston says as much,Disrespect the Reds, blow off FDR,cut side deals with Germany, all in Hitlers favor.Poor old Eden.Brit lion brought down by Brit sheep
bv141a 6 days ago
@bv141a Ah, Winny loosing sleep over Edens resignation. I never beleived that.Eden resigned over Chamberlains appeasment policy re Musso the Wop. IMHO, it wasn't his policy over Italy s,movements but the timing of it and how far it was to go. After all , he didn't object to appeasing Hitlers plans. And he only started agreeing with Winston once he (Winny) became PM.

@bv141a Italian subs were complimenting German U-boats. bv141a 6 days ago

@SuperAncientmariner Some political wanted to figure out offensive, and defensive labels for weapons.Very misguided terms to appy to a submarine
bv141a 6 days ago
@bv141a The classification of these boats was quite easy. The coastal(defence) boats were 250 t0 500 tons.(as were minelayers), Sea going were 500 to 750 tons, The later Ocean going -1000+ tons. and the "Milch Cows" were 1500 +. As the little type 2s were 500 tons max, I tink there can be no doubt as to what they were.
SuperAncientmariner 6 days ago
@SuperAncientmariner I understand the classifications, but those 'Canoes" who found their way down the Danube river, engaged in offensive patrols.A defensive submarine can be deployed offensively, only a beaurocrate would try to label a sub one or the other
bv141a 5 days ago
@bv141a Woah there bv. Those type 2 boats were dismantled at Kiel and went down the Danube by raod and canal barge. And didn't do anything until 1942.

@SuperAncientmariner I don't know much of UK economy, there must be some to be used for sure.
Lacking this "Lie, always lie, shameless lie, so that out of a thousand Lies e new reality comes out, and the truth something incredible"
ain't sure this is Macchiavelli quoting, but ... more or less.
To the 2nd factor, there are standard stupid answers:
"if you didn't want to join, why you did? aren't you a democracy? etc.."
then, you'll have to explain a lot of complex factors nobody will listen to

don't think I ever take anything lightly, much less the opposition of people like you, compared to my enthusiasm of a year ago, when I thought that british opposers to EU were nothings like faringe, I got a bit more informed, and I'd say now there are strong signals UK in EU is no good for both, not in the current form for sure.
vaxiawval 5 days ago
@vaxiawval It's Farage (pronounced like Garage ; ). Whom on our end is anything but a ""nothing"", quite the reverse in fact as UKIP is our country's IVth largest political party
Farage is also probably one of the only contempory British Politicians to be consistantly popular at home
(not least for his knack in Oratory Circles, & support of Increasing the Defense Budget).
TSR1989FF 2 days ago
@SuperAncientmariner Very true. And my answer would be , as I have said before, that those in power do not listen to their people, never have and IMHO never will. The EU is not ,in any way, shape or form, like the EEC , which is what we signed up to.

polls are good today, 49% out, 40% in
but, on what % of voters?
whatever the real meaning of these numbers, they are a political nightmare
vaxiawval 4 days ago
@vaxiawval No idea Vax, but it goes to show what I mean about not listening to the plebs. One of Camerons many empty pledges was that we would have a referendum on continued membership. Have we had it, have we heck!

Nigel Farage? the same faringe who's the joke & eternal bore of EuroParliament, ROFL TSR, maybe you're right, I think I lack of British Humour
vaxiawval 2 days ago
@vaxiawval Hmm, a very European Perspective of things
(as i expected from the start ; )
Then again it's natural the Sprouts (our Nickname for non-British EU Politicans) would think poorly of him, as he doesn't exactly mince his words, and rightly so as far as i ( and many Brit's on YT & offline will attest) am concerned.
Agree to Disagree, on this Issue, i suspect we must, hmm?
TSR1989FF 2 days ago
@vaxiawval The reason Farage is classed as an eternal bore in EU parliament is because he is the minority voice who wants to reform/change or bring down the whole rotten structure. The majority of EU parliament is made up of flunkies(yes, inc some of our own) who are more interested in the perks they can screw out of it. Hopefully, these flunkies will get pissed off with us moaning about them they"ll chuck us out.
By the way vaxi, when was the last time the EU accounts were signed off?.
gilnod 1 day ago
@gilnod
Gil, farage is considered what he is, by people who know his games much better than him.
Not because what he says, he says nothing, as any semantic analysis can demonstrate in any moment.
The thing is not uncommon & widely accepted, he's considered a barbarian and extraordinary boring, that's all.
vaxiawval 1 day ago
@gilnod
Did you check the motivations of that terrorist deny of deportation?
vaxiawval 1 day ago
@vaxiawval Its a long & complex judgement vaxi, but basically boils down to the fact he came here on a forged passport, has links to Al-Qaeda, & has been tried & convicted in his own country(Jordan). We are trying to deport him back there, but he is using Article 6 of the Human Rights Act(right to a fair trial) on the grounds that torture may be used to obtain evidence. Jordan has given assurances to the UK Govt. that torture will not be used, but our judges will still not deport him.
gilnod 17 hours ago
@gilnod
I read this:
Siac (UK) Yes to deportation
Court of Appeal (UK) No to deportation
House of Lords (UK) Yes to deportation
EuroJudges said they didn't accept Abu Qatada's claims that he would face ill treatment or torture at the hands of Jordanian authorities if sent there for trial, citing recent agreements between Jordan and the U.K.
BUT
" ... the evidence of his involvement had been obtained by torturing one of his co-defendants."
Jordans have already tortured the other guy, it seems
vaxiawval 16 hours ago
@gilnod
The last citation is from Wall Street Journal & in accord to what Sir Bratza said to the Independent.
If this is the case, the Court of Appeal and European Court are right.
We cannot allow any government, anywhere to use torture to obtain evidence.
Both UK laws & European laws prohibit torture, for any reason.
Evidence obtained by torture cannot be accepted, and this was true in UK before many other European countries.
Now, I hate to be the Evil's advocate & I hate muslims but...
vaxiawval 15 hours ago
@vaxiawval Your missing my point vaxi. I agree with you on the torture issue, but my point is that the 46 foreign nationals & one UK member of the ECHR, has usurped the authority of the highest court in our land based on Article 6, which is tenuous at best, given the assurances that Jordan has given. The rights of this man does not preclude him from facing trial for crimes allegedly committed in his own country. The ECHR reason for interpretation of Article 6 in this case is beyond belief.
gilnod 14 hours ago
@gilnod

It's hard to make such a change with only a relative majority, and not even much, 9-10%
Usually, for changes of such an extent, an absolute majority is required.
I don't know the british laws on Referendums.
Uncomfortable numbers to take historical decisions
vaxiawval 4 days ago
@SuperAncientmariner
It's pure Hell of a problem.
vaxiawval 4 days ago
@vaxiawval At the end of the day vaxi, it all comes down to what mariner said. We have had one referendum to join an organisation that bears no resemblance to what we have now. In 37yrs we have had numerous changes which our political masters have said have been good for the country & people, but we have never been giving a say on whether we agree with them. It was simply hoped the public would"nt understand the complexities, well we do & we dont like it, & now we want that voice heard.

Thelordwarthog 4 days ago
@vaxiawval This is a bit like the debate hope & mariner was having. I agree, 49% out, 40% in is not an overwhelming majority, but it is a majority over the minority. The political nightmare comes about because the minority would hold most of the supposed great & the good of this country who have the political savvy & their own financial interest to stay within the EU. The majority is the man in the street who only see injustices imposed by sycophantics both elected & unelected.
gilnod 4 days ago
@gilnod
How effective your politicians are able to set up such a program, which must be discreet & hidden in it's contents, I cannot say.
vaxiawval 4 days ago
@vaxiawval I"ll give you a scenario.
The Government will not hold a referendum on Europe because it knows the British people will vote for something it does not want to do.
On Scottish independance, the Govt. is very keen to have a referendum(sooner rather than later,) because it knows the Scottish people dont want it.
gilnod 4 days ago
@gilnod More Accurately the Government Cannot Hold a Referendum on Europe yet, in part because of the ruddy Liberal's (i've actually met Nick Clegg, he really is as inept & ignorant as he appears), and also because if we did right now the Europeans would find some way to get back us back for it (wouldn't be the first time).
Scotland: Westminster is wise to Strangle that Issue in the Cradle, before it becomes any more troublesome. That & they can Annul any Negative result.
TSR1989FF 4 days ago
@TSR1989FF Dont think Westminster wants to strangle the issue ts, they want the referendum before Salmond does.
As far as Parliament annulling any negative result goes, well, a referendum is only an advisory policy with no legal status so a negative result could be annulled, but if the people of Scotland vote for independence, & Parliament annulls it, the troubles in Northern Ireland would be a cake walk compared to what would happen up there, IMHO.
gilnod 3 days ago
@gilnod "they want the referendum before Salmond does"
EXACTLY my point Gilly, by getting a Ref' conducted now they will strangle the issue before it has any meaningful risk of gaining popular support.
And no it wouldn't, the SNP doesn't even have a Military Wing, nor any Libyan Dictators or Sympathetic Yank's to Supply them with Guns & Explosives, plus the Military would never support the SNP Luddites (their loyalty is to Her Majesty alone), they'd hang em from the yardarm
(Laugh ; )
TSR1989FF 3 days ago
@TSR1989FF Point taken on your first paragraph ts.
On your second point, i hope your right. This Salmond guy looks a right slithery bastard to me, & he"s just the type of guy to stir up confrontation if a referendum went against him.
Lets be honest, its HIM that this is all about, its HIM thats driving it. He wants to make his mark on history & he aint gonna stop till he does.
gilnod 3 days ago

Indeed it is your obligation to be involved in a vote for the UK's future.
suryavajra 3 days ago
@suryavajra Hi sury, nice to hear from you.
Hows things with you

Hi gilnod! Things are going great with me. The Primary election season is well and truly underway here! lol!
