you guys, there's a better thing to do. just take a tiny piece of sponge and put it on top of a metal pen. It works waaaaay better than this. OR, if the pen is plastic, coat the entire pen in aluminum foil (or at least the top half) and then stick the bit of sponge on that. It works really, really well.
@MacOSXTutorials Fantastic! I knew the capacitve screens worked with the currents in your finger tips but never knew something easy like this was possible. Quick note if you took a brand new pencil then cup the eraser at a slant you would still have the flat surface but be able to use it tilted like you would a pencil. Great video
@Graffthesystem Broad you are as dumb as rocks.. They'd scratch each other. It's the same concept as sand paper on a diamond. It's still going to "scratch" it.
Why would I spend a shi* load of money on an iPhone or an iPod touch just to scratch the shi* out of it with a hillbilly stylus that i've made?.. If you're going to spend that much money anyway, why not spend a few extra bucks to get a REAL stylus?..
glass may be very hard (6.5) and aluminum may me softer (somewhere around 5) you may think that "no it wont scratch it, stfu" but if a FINGERNAIL can scratch it at 2.5 hardness on the hardness scale, just imagine aluminum.....BUNCHA FUKTARDZ.
@Machinama16 Are you restarted. Not to be mean or anything but he kinda just showed us in the video what to do follow his instructions and it most probably will work.
lmao, total bullshit, the capacitive touchscreens respond to your conductive finger so then that electricity on your finger travels down through the tin foil and bam.
Anyways i kind of doing see much of a poing if it has to be flat...What if i made a very thin flat surface, would that help make it? Then maybe id be happy...
To all: "DONT DO IT IT WILL SCRATCH YOUR SCREEN!"
Iwe just want to sat that it cant scratch your screen because it is bade of really hard glass (Not plastick as someone think) because of this very hard glass it can even substand a razor blade so dont worry u guys it wont scratch your screen. (Same for Ipad)
a) you have to be touching the foil for it to work (electrons must transfer from your hand, through the foil, to the capacitive display i.e. iPhone/MacBook trackpad)
b) the foil that I used left a removable silver/gray mark from the foil on the screen. It can be wiped off, but it looks bad and is annoying. Can someone tell me if this is just my foil or if it happens with all brands of foil?
I know some people which have really long fingernails, because they play classical guitar. Using touch devices like the Iphone with a stylus is much easier for them.
This could be useful for drawing like doodlebuddy or some other app, but you are right the iphone was made for use with the fingers and i am glad it is that way. ; )
@MacOSXTutorials12 somthing you could do to fix that is rub it on the table on the edges to grind it out and flatten the edges (yea i know i am a year late its my job ^_^ )
no you can't... because a pencil does not conduct electricity so thats why he puts the foil at the end. The iphones screen works because a transfer of electrons from say your hand or metal and a pencil isen't metal...
Which is why I always use a pencil when I'm in class? Apparently, you're wrong.
In the end though, you could even use a DS or some other phone/touchscreen pen, because i doubt anyone would want to use that huge pencil wrapped in foil, in public. Plus, I would think after a while, the foil would start to scratch the screen.
Capacitive Touch screens (used in iPhone, and Touch) require the transfer of electrons in order to work. A stylus from a DS would not work because the DS uses a Resistive touch screen, which can be used by anything (the plastic stylus)
@trybalbutterflies like most folk on youtube, you have NO idea what you are talking about, an iphone or ipod touch or nokia x6, has a capacitive touch screen, not a pressure touch screen,so you need something that earths to your skin...like metal..it has to conduct electricity...

Why on earth would you want a stylus for a iPhone?
jamy015 2 years ago
If you're wearing gloves. That's the only reason I can think of.
kitdude21 2 years ago
actually, gloves might only work if they are thin.
it needs to be touching skin I think, thats why he covered the whole pen in foil not just the tip.
would a hamsters nose work? I could keep one of those(not just the nose) in my pocket next time I go snowboarding.. cause my gloves are kinda think.

Cant you scratch the screen with the corners? and its almost inpossible not to bend the edges
GlickOne 2 years ago
Thats why you use something thats flat because if you move flat tin foil over the screen it wont scratch. If you move it on an edge it will.
