I'm sorry to tell all the friends who watch this video that Muhammad Abu Ajaj passed away this day 21.6.2011 because of heart attack . He was 56 years old only. May God bless his soul.رحمة الله عليه
His name is Muhammad Abu Ajaj. I studied with him a few years ago. His soul is just as beautiful as his music. He recorded a hard to find album called Kseife and another with Yair Dalal, called Azazme. Do find them, they're very much worth it!
This is not Bedouin music, but rather LEVANTINE (North Middle East), who's people aren't even ethnically Arabs... This guy is playing the Oud, which is not a Bedouin instrument, nor the tunes that are being played are Bedouin. Bedouins use Rababah, primitive percussion, and tribal vocals, thats all...
@OmnipotentUnknown Well actualy its not even a Middle eastern instrument , but a North African instrument orginated in ancient egypt. There are many ancient Egyptian tomb painting depicting lute players, like 18th Dynasty (c. 1350 BC). But as we know the Middle easterners like to own the inventions of other nations. The Middle easterners just took it over like other nations.
trust me when i say this! he is payed very well and even has his own cd! the guy is amazing!! if u ever have the chance to go to the judean desert and stay at his bedouin hotel/tent then u can get his cd
As a newcomer to the oud I will say that I have found it more difficult than the guitar. Fretless and on mine 11 strings. I just love the tones! This guy is great! Thanks
Thanks for this. The tourists obviously don't appreciate the artist's performance, perhaps don't like music anyway. Suitable as 'picture dressing' -- not to spend a penny on...
this guy is : muhammad abu ajaj from the bedouin town called "Kussiefa" in south of Israel. he is one of my friends he studied music in the hebrew university in Jerusalem
Yes!, this if Kfar Hanokdim. I just checked, via google search, to see if it is indeed home of the Negev or of the Judean desert and as far as i can tell it is in the Negev. The Judean desert covers ground near The Dead Sea, Jerusalem, Hebron. etc. The Negev is between Masada and Arad.
Hah!! I think this is the exact same guy as in my video! (See "Bedouin playing an oud") I'm pretty sure the one in my video was also called Mohammed, and he had a similar resume. I'm guessing he's THE oud player at the Kfar Hanokdim village (I think that's what it's called, right?)
By the way, I think that "village" is in the Judean Desert, isn't it? I don't know about your trip, but I don't think mine made it to the Negev.

That whole South Pacific Island looking building doesn't really mesh in well with the whole Bedouin feel of the music...
