Cloghie owned Motson, to the point where Motty looks uncomfortable...comparing Mourinho tp Clough, the only real comparison between them is that are very arrogant and good at it, Mouronho I think is quite charming when he wants to be as was Cloughie...RIP CLOUGH AND TAYLOR
"im far more qualified than you" lmao too right he is, go on how u gonna take that john!? i was in stitches, but yes brian is a true critic, well qualified
A Birmingham City fan and he bought Francis and Burns to turn them into champions. Cloughie was the man.
Having so much stick in 2011 about us winning a cup at wembley - where our good friends (claret Villa shite) were well beaten in 2010 and for us to be relegated is a good basis to build from.
Brian Clough is a Legend and here's hoping the Eck can join him in the next 10 years.
@martinwilliamrandall Aren't we clever with our populist dig at Fergie? If you think Brian Clough used to stick up for refs out of purely altruistic good will toward them you've got a lot of growing up to do.
Im a Liverpool fan...but I always had great respect for Brian Clough...he always had the guts and balls to say what was on his mind. I do miss the man and I do miss forest.
Cloughie destroys Motson and is fair to referees. How many managers today would do that? Ferguson? I think not. Wenger? He never sees an incident where one of his players steps out of line. RIP Brian - you will always be a legend. I only saw you once at Sunderland (your last league match) but you will always be a legend on Wearside as well.
'thats a lot of questions all in one there with the sound of your voice your just about getting them out' lol he was always very witty and able to come up with some cracking lines in split moments
I love Brian Clough!! Straight talking, no messing!! The over paid nancies in football today could do with somebody like Brian Clough giving the orders!!
I agree with Clough, there are so many journalists, TV pundits and radio broadcasters criticising players and referees. Everyone's an expert these days, even without kicking a football in the professional leagues. They should shut up and show more football! I liked Brian Clough's honest and descriptive opinions, he said what every football fan was thinking ,.There was only one Cloughie!!!!
@HoosierMF He was speaking to John Motson there towards the end of the interview as if he is an illiterate. There's nothing wrong with getting your point across but there's no need to insult the journalist.
What a great guy he was in his prime. Spoke total sence and saw through that idiot motson and exposed him for the prat that he is. Fair play to his defence of refs too, refs do make mistakes but every single one of the 22 players make more mistakes in a game than the ref but the managers and players today will always blame the ref. Something needs to happen with this game, the world cup showed that.
"i'm far more qualified than you or any of your colleagues" haha, well said, who the fuck is motty to offer such deep insights about football mangers, referees and players when he himself had never played, managed or refereed a game! So of course Clough is entitled to feel agrieved when people like motty are flooding our tv's with garbage football punditry. In terms of Tv, leave it to the professionals! All the others can rant on in the pubs
Another good 'un is when they ask a manager in the post match interview "Have you had a chance to see the offside / penalty etc"
Course he's seen it. He saw it at the same time as the ref and if he needs to see it again on TV to be sure, he shouldn't be criticizing the ref if he got it wrong.
You can tell Brian Clough like me had no time for a know all but no nothing commentater big head arrogant but pig ignorant toss pot like John Motson. I have never liked John Motson.
@theyorkshirewhites Aye your right son! And I can see why both I & Cloughie are in agreement we couldnt bloody stomach loud mouth know all done nothing John Motson. Much prefered Brian Moore RIP
He was quoted as saying that he wasn't concerned about what the opposition would do, because if his players did what he told them they were more than a match for any team
Before the advent of Sky TV and round the clock coverage, most clubs would send one of the coaching staff to visit a match of the up and coming opposition a week or so before hand and a report would be given to the manager. Clubs in the lower leagues still do.
Although Cloughie did do things a bit differently!
I am convinced that Brian Clough was more than capable of leading England to World Cup Glory during the inter 1974-1986 years. Not to begrudge all of Cloughies club successes, or Revie, Greenwood and Robson.., but just imagine! The man was a Genius, at his peak he was in the top one.. x
@NymphZoic68 I think if he'd been manager in 82 England would of won the world cup, we had a great team and got knocked out of the tournament without losing a game under Ron Greenwood.
A brilliant brilliant man, I have played football for 30 years (only 38 now) and played the game as fair as i could and i always belived that the man in black had the hardest job and Clough said it straight slow mo- revers e slo mo and you sometimes still don't know! the modern manager is a whining scab picking child with a mental age of 12 and yes that includes "sir" Alex how many times have you heard a manager say the ref is crap but then said "but i think i was mistaken in this decision????
A ref has a second to see, assess and make a decision. How many times do commentators / pundits say "Let's just see that again" then go on to berate the ref for not seeing what THEY didn't see first time.
Referees are so unfairly treated by professional footballers its borderline childish. You would never see boxers, rugby players back chat the refs like the footballers do. Brian Clough is a legend & much dearly missed. No football pundit backs the ref anymore. Its a disgrace
@martinwilliamrandall Aren't we clever with our populist dig at Fergie? If you think Brian Clough used to stick up for refs out of purely altruistic good will toward them you've got a lot of growing up to do.
@CATHYRINDH00PS well he kind of did, and im sorry but facts are fergie complains about refs too much. he doesnt get touchline bans nothing. and dont tell martin to grow up, hes just being honest
@weatherallc05 Nope try again. Your Saint Brian Clough, who let us also remember was a raging alcoholic, only ever stuck up for refs for exactly the same reason Fergie tries to pressure them in his comments - to influence them. 2 sides of 1 coin. Are you a bit slow?
I happen to like Brian Clough. But I don't like every knob on the internet with opposable thumbs taking any chance they can to drag Fergie / Man Utd into any argument going, no mater how little relevance it has to the subject.
@CATHYRINDH00PS ill give u fair warning, i wold have told u if i was dragging alexs rep down. youre assuming that i think things about either of them e.g you assume i think that clough was a saint. and no im not slow, because i see him speak plenty of times and he is right to demand competent referreeing. I would love it for refs to stop making a mess of decisions, cos at times they do ask for trouble. and dont call me slow, its not nice. i just wanted to give my opinion
