Would using reaper flow improver instead of the brush on sealer to make a glaze work?Or is there something the sealer does to make the glaze work appose to flow improver?
@Tanksareforcowards I brush on Vallejo gloss (Vallejo Game Color, I think). Then brush on Vallejo Game Color matte. I'm not at home to double check that's Game Color (as opposed to Vallejo Model Color) but I'm pretty sure that's right. Last I dull cote it. Gloss Varnishes tend to be thicker and protect better for models used in game play. But you need to the matte to dull it back down (and for another layer of protection). The Dull Cote does the final trick of knocking shine off the model.
@davidvc04 Wow, thanks for the informative reply! Do you water the gloss and matte down? I put 'Ardcote on a metallic-painted model once, then varnished it, and it looked really weird.
@Tanksareforcowards Okay, it's Vallejo Model Color Gloss Varnish 510 and Vallejo Game Color Matte Varnish 72070. No, I don't water these down, but I don't apply them like a wash. If I see it pooling up too much in an area, I wick it back out and put it somewhere else. The bubbles usually settle out, but keep watch for any that linger. Make sure to let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next one.
@Tanksareforcowards And what do you mean by weird? Was it hazy, thick? Once I used a new varnish not mentioned above, Vallejo Model Color Matte, and didn't water that one down because I I hadn't needed to with the other Vallejo paints). It went on really thick but I ignored it. It left a thick haze over the models, with the brushstrokes showing. I was really freaked out about it. I decided to spray some Dull Cote on it, and I was amazed to see the Dull Cote smooth out 95% of the problems.

That's exactly what I meant by weird. Thanks for the further advice, I'll have to try the Vallejo varnishes.
@Tanksareforcowards Just watch out for the Vallejo Model Color Matte. That's the one that was so thick and heavy and which I should've watered down but didn't. Good luck!
I really do believe the more I paint 98% of the work is patience, not painting secrets. Looks good, but who knows how many peeps will ahve the patience to do this kind of work.

Really cool video. What do you use for varnish on metallic-painted models?

Excellent Video!
I agree about the *haze* when mixing some of the washes:)
stumpythumper 1 year ago
@stumpythumper So you've seen it, too? Yeah, it's annoying. That's not how washes are supposed to behave, and it forces me to do touchup.
davidvc04 1 year ago
@davidvc04 There are times when I use a mix that has worked fine before.
And it does it?
I've noticed a few problems overcoating reaper paints with it..
So I've been trying to only use it on GW basecoats...
But it still does the *Haze* ocasionally?
I've also noticed sort of a *repulsion* when mixing some of the colors one color will gel-coagulutate and seperate as it dries.
I always get the haze when I see that?
