  • WOW

  • And the Oscar goes to...

  • Meraviglioso!

  • The quality is outstanding! Del Monaco the best Canio!

  • I'd be afraid to sing Nedda opposite this phenomenal man! Who today, or in the past 40 years could match this passion & intwensity? Mario was the best for this role@

  • I never heard Del Monaco in the theater. But I did hear Corelli. He sounded

better on stage than on recordings (as did several famous tenors). I

    suspect Del Monaco did too.

Tucci only made two commercial recordings. I found some live

performances by her on a site called "The Opera Lovers".

Funny how some singers record some roles 2-3 times while some

equally fine singers hardly record at all. Tnx 4 the exciting post.

  • listen to all that "wild & nasty" sound quality like an "animal"....all great singers of the past have it......

As a voice student......I am listen to these "old great singers"....for that quality......"the animal spirit"...

In my personal opinion the best TENOR EVER

  • Wow. I own this performance on VHS, and I'm astonished at the quality of this remastering. It's like a brand new performance being available, and it's amazing!

Still, I was always struck by the omission of the chorus interjections at the end. Not sure why they cut those out of the performance--I think they add to the increasing tension.

  • What does he actually say after "La commedia e finita"? The last word is "Nedda", I believe, but what does he yell before that?

  • @Richiesutherland Nedda, Nedda, NEEEDDDDDAAA, AHHH ahhhha AAAAAAhhhhhhhhh

  • @Richiesutherland I think he repeats Nedda three times, and the cry

  • Mitico !!!

  • El mejor Pagliacci, para mi es una interpretación magistral

  • Superb Mario and his incredible interpretation!

Wonderfully partnered by splendid Gabriella Tucci whose Nedda is my favourite and Aldo Protti, magnificent and stupendous in Prologue.

    Bravi tutti!!!!!!!

  • ce lai quadrate Maestro!!!! XX

  • Del Monaco's studio recordings do not do him justice; ANY of his live performances are light years superior, because the microphones simply couldn't do justice to his magnificence. Birgit Nilsson and all vocal phenomenons suffered this way; it's the smaller voices that do best on recordings.

  • Best since Caruso.

  • Si existe la perfeccion...aqui esta

    If there's perfection...here's it

  • Che fenomeno!!! Grande Maestro, mitico!!!!

  • I love that del Monaco interpretation since ever. Maestro del Monaco remain the best Pagliaccio singer, and all over dramatic tenor repertory.... Grazie Maestro!!!!!

  • GRANDE MARIO - Un mito senza fine!!!

  • El poder del drama en la voz de un hombre.

  • If a performance could be arrested for brutal violence, it would be this one.

  • My favourite Pagliacci singer. Powerful and virile voice, controlled, fabulous caracterization, inflections. Super! Like its said in Spain: Par de huevos!!

  • Simply put- that was the most compelling dramatic effort that I have seen possibly ever. The inflections, the voice, he was engineered for verismo singing. The remastering is beautiful- I think I spotted a nosehair.

  • I have never seen such a wonderful remastering of this footage. This is absolutely fantastic! You can almost smell them!!!! Mario Del Monaco is electric!!!

  • L'UOMO, L'ATTORE, IL MITO.
