  • Beautiful, car has everything but the swiss cheese frame

  • Just stumbled accross this. THANK you and the owner of the car for lighting it up. Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... (Need more W's!). What a sound!! Mmmm.... Love It!!

  • @3dsman It would be a good race for the 409's... ur welcome!!!

  • Simply jaw dropping. Don't lean on it.

  • We need cars like this built today with the same standards and quality as the originals. Today's cars are just so plain and boring and overly electronic.

  • Pontiac Claimed it only had 405 HP. but if you took a new one of these to the dyno, it would read about 460HP.

  • @4431prw Can you say "underrated"??? Lol...

  • @CORVAIRWILD Pontiac only said 405 hp so it would pass GM's inspection ;) sucks that now a GM rep sits in at the dyno tests :(

  • 1962 Pontiac Catalina 421 SD, driven by Jim Wangers, did 1/4 mile in 12.38 seconds. 1963 Pontiac built around 12 or more Pontiac Tempest Lemans 421 Super Duty cars, with new Power Shift race tranny. Some of these new Tempest were station wagons, better traction. Arnie Beswick blew away all the new 1964 426 HEMIS, new Ford ThuderBolts 427s and what ever, with a 1963 Tempest Lemans 421 SD 2 door, a 1963 Pontiac Tempest Station Wagon and Swiss Cheese Catalina, way to go Arnie ! 421 SD , LEGENDARY !

  • @JusticeYouWant2010 You man, know your facts! I can't afford any Pontiacs on my wish list currently. They are, in no specific order... 1965 GTO, 1965 Bonneville or Catalina. All of couse with a Tri Power and 4 speed. Convertible or hardtop. I saw two beee-uteeful 65's at the next Musclepalooza, both owned by same fellow. I vidded him leaving the event. One lite yellow, one Iris Mist, (Evening Orchid, Chevy color too!) I've got a late 50's Corvette on the list too, and a 409, and ....

  • On February 16, 1963, Paul Goldsmith/ Ray Nichols, won the Challenge Cup 250 at Daytona Speed Weeks by over 5 miles. The 1963 Pontiac Tempest Lemans 421 Super Duty ( 2 x 4 barrel carbs ) beat the all the competition, including new Corvette 427s, Cobras, defending Ferrari GTOs and who ever else dared to show up. No wonder Pontiac named their new / first ever Muscle Car the Pontiac GTO !

  • 1963 Pontiac Tempest Lemans 421 Super Duty ( 2 x 4 barrel carbs ), new Semi Auto "Power Shift" racing trans, "Running Bear" , Pontiac Engineers and Knafel Pontiac did, 1/4 mile in 11.89 seconds @ 123.28 MPH ( September 1963 ), the Prototype for the upcoming Pontiac GTO.

  • 1962 Pontiac Catalina 421 Super Duty ( 2 x 4 barrel carbs ) , 1/4 mile in 12.38 seconds.

  • 1961 Pontiac Catalina 421 Super Duty ( 2x 4 barrel carbs ), 1/4 mile in 12.55 seconds @ 110.2 MPH, Hayden Proffitt at the wheel.

  • Great Video ! Pontiac 421 Super Duty, factory 2 X 4 barrels, Factory aluminum front end, Factory headers with cut outs, Posi, 4 speed, Just Awesome, Legendary !

  • Who needs a radio when you have a Pontiac engine singing beutifull music?

  • @The1FastGP Did u evr read the ad from Pontiac in 1962? Look it up, it just shows an empty garage, and text of the beautiful music!

  • Check out a couple of Pontiac Super Duty Cheese Cars We just restored. Rare to say the least. Made a little video bout them if you look around.......Mopargrovis

  • @The1FastGP A-MEN!

  • only if you could find the ultra rare Super Duty 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix 421 Tri Power it would make my day...a friend of the family used to have one of the 13 built and i miss that car please try to find one...great catalina by the way

  • @g20s10silveradoman Somewhere in my Musclepalooza vids I have the best of show '63 Catalina liteweight. Black, Tri power, alum fenders...

  • @g20s10silveradoman Ooops, this is that vid!!! Sheesh!!!

  • Speed channel recently did an episode where they rebuilt a 62/63 SD 421 engine to stock specs. After rebuild it Dyno'd at 480 Horse Power.

  • @V8Deuce What's an extra 100 HP between friends???

  • @V8Deuce That is accurate though.Pontiac was known to fib a little on H.P ratings.Gotta love it.

  • @peak199 You're absolutely right. They did it with the GTO's and Firebirds as well.

  • This by far to me is one of the coolest videos on youtube

I like how corvair got him to crank her up

I live in a very old house, love turning up the sound, having the windows rattle

    Love it

    Great work corvair

  • @MrAshlandVideos Check out my vid "junk house"

  • @CORVAIRWILD you got to many videos to find it bra

    nice vid on the 421

    Have a great summer

    Happy Hottroddin

  • @MrAshlandVideos Or maybe it's "shitty house'???

  • The downside to these cars was that the "Swiss Cheese" frames often developed earlier-than-intended stress cracks causing frames to shatter at the rear. Another problem was the aluminum headers which would melt after continued use. Overall, they made impressive runs but had horrible durability.

  • Um this guy needs to stop saying stuff like "GM muscle" and "Hot Rod tricks from GM". Pontiac was the only GM brand with the balls to do this. This is all Pontiac. I Pontiac was given more leash in the 60s it would still be around and kicking everyone's ass. You can take that to the bank!

  • @PontiacAlfaHSV What about the 409's that Grumpy Jenkins ran? and later the Hemi twin cam Olds 455???

  • @CORVAIRWILD What about the DOHC fuel injected 389 and 428. What about the SOHC tunnel port 303, or the fuel injected hemi 427? All of those were Pontiac engines designed and ready for production, but were killed by GM Brass to protect the inferior Chevy SS line.

  • @PontiacAlfaHSV WOW!!! Race on Sunday, sell on Monday!!!

  • @CORVAIRWILD For the Record the 303 made anywhere from 375 to 475 Hp and the hemi 427 made 640hp at 8000rpm. Oh and those are SAE NET numbers.

  • @humantestdummy I'm not refering to the MOPAR engine. I am talking about an experimental Pontiac V8 developed in the early 70s. I believe this is what your post was about.

  • @PontiacAlfaHSV: A fuel injected 428 would have been so cool.............imagine if they had made the '69 Trans Am with that..........too bad, though.

  • @MiracleMile90 yeah, it really is too bad. Oh well, the Pontiac aftermarket has picked up in recent years. Hopefully someone will invest the time to reproduce the SOHC and DOHC engines.

  • @PontiacAlfaHSV Yeah, when I was younger, that used to really bother me because I was (am) a pontiac nut. Some of those old pontiac engines never made it to the streets where they belonged. What a shame.

  • Incredible Poncho!!!

  • Sweet !!!!

  • I read in a magazine that back in the day they used an accelerometer inside the car and ran the numbers it these cars were closer to 450 hp from the factory.

  • 50 stars for that ONE!!!

  • And quite the story how he found it!

  • Yeah, from $250 to $230k...

  • Very period, I suppose...

  • i would love to have that car

  • got a 61 poncho...........

  • Crank 'er UP!!!!!

  • AWESOME Idle!!!!

  • WOW! simply amazing.

  • I was at Musclepalooza also. Unfortunatly I came there late (about 1 pm) so it was kind of disapointing, I didnt have a lot of time. I was loving the little F.A.S.T. corner with all the 440-6 Pack Road Runners and Bees.

  • Saw 'em, too much ta look at!!! didn't know where ta turn... Back in Sept...

  • such a good show. i cant believe how many cars were there, and how PERFECT of a day it was. will have to make the trip up from CT again next year. i only did the drag racing, but that car sounded EPIC coming down the return road to get his trophy. best of show indeed!

  • I had ta leave as he was preparing for awards... Shame...

  • i had one...but i sold it...one of my first cars

it was a later year than this but not by mutch

  • yay for the good ole classic cars
