At least with the Boeing's and other AC makers, they still have a back-up system in place to land it with.

The 787 doesn't have a mechanical backup any more and with the FBW system failing, a yoke is about as useless as a sidestick. That's why these systems are very robust and quad-redundant in most applications. The A320 crash had other reasons, a reckless pilot in the first place and bad information politics of Airbus regarding a engine control issue in the second. The FBW did what it was designed to, preventing the plane from stalling and killing everyone on board.
