  • @neonmeat1 Ha figured it out: 'Railroad Bill'.

Check it out it's a tune!

  • It was the first song learnt from the radio and Uncle Mac.

  • Great Version!

  • I AGREE WITH ALL COMMENTS HERE :)) But, just found it so strange, that after all the years that have passed & the history, that a Song, extolling a person , who, murdered a young Girl, would become a Folk song & still be sung ??? with his name as the Title,, perhaps, better Laura's name should be included ??

  • @yukonnahanni

if you think is strange, try listening to Strange Fruits by Billie Holiday.

  • Best version of this song.

  • One of the beauties of folk music is that 10 different artists can sing the same song and there will be 10 totally different interpretations of it.

  • Das ist die Geschichte von Tom Dooley aus Tennessee und seinem Ende. Er liebte die Frau eines anderen, doch weil sie nicht... Vielen Dank....

  • Sie sind willkommen

    thanks to Babelfish translation :~)

  • First record i bought when i was a young lad.

  • I sure enjoyed those great pictures and the history lesson. 5 stars from Wild and Wonderful West Virginia..

  • Ein schönes altes Lied, nur leider viel zu wahr.

Es gab, gibt und wird sicherlich noch viele Tom Dooleys geben,

    Vielen Dank...

  • To the OP, great work on the image compilation and good choice of version. Thanks, amigo.

  • Thanks for that glowing tribute billyshake mate ... keep on reading Steven King, he never fails to keep your nose to the page.

  • good video :)

  • Fantastic....my favourite Lonnie track and easily the best version. great vocal and wirebrush harmonies, takes me back to when I was a kid playing all my dads skiffle 78's....brilliant

  • That's Van Morrison in that picture of the tree fellows at the end. The fellow on the right.

  • Surely Van the Man can never look so grumpy as that chap.....but then again from a different angle !!!!!!

  • Yes I'm not positive, but I just looked at it again and it sure does look like him. In any event it's a great track, great video and even greater saga.

  • I think when I souced the pic it had Van Morrison as that guy ... now I am trying to remember who the other geezer is

  • Really? (about van morrison being in that pic) That's cool. I would never have saw that. Thanks.

  • This is the first song I remember singing, aged five , standing on the bed "playing" the back of my hairbrush. I knew all the words and melancholy they were !

  • same here ... I loved this song, one of the first pop songs that I knew the words to and kept singing ... it was another song that me mam thought was inapropriate (is that how ya spell it?)

  • Wundervoll!!!!!!
