  • This was an amazing live band, seen them a lot, she 'was' a great friend of me the singer. She is still active in the indie / alternative scene.

Salad, was just fun and party time

  • ........LOVE !!!!!

  • this is terrible. I'd rather ride my bicycle to hell and shoot dope with mr cobain.

  • This album is so total, so coherent and monolithic it should really be be one of the 90's great albums, which are generally greatly lacking. I have rediscovered this material year after year. it's the rough edges that I like. The fact that you hear real human being performing a very well thought out and written album is genuinely novel for a 90's record.

Best European total album of the 90's To bad musical taste went down the shitter that very same decade.

  • whata garbage!

  • sinterklaas, wie kent hem niet ; p

  • this album had gthe best the songs to start an album ever, this, granite statue and drink the elixir....

  • producer and name fail..if they just used her name we would hear this on the radio.

  • smells like the pixies

  • Around 3:14 it almost sounds like The Pixies!

  • Very sad this great track was ever tarnished with the Britpop label :-(

  • i think victoria legrand from beach house looks a lil like this chic.. salad - on the outskirts, thank god, of horrific britpop : britpop coming to a new indie retro 90's night near you soon. please , No , dont unleash brett anderson on us all again..

  • @silverchainic too late - Brett has been unleashed and he is still fabulous. Suede may have unwittingly started britpop but they were never britpop.

  • ahh, love this.. good times

  • "Fill her up"

  • thanks so much for this! 'Drink me' has a lot of memories of being an indie kid back in my teens.....excellent album...!

  • very nice song, i´m sad, that i found this band just few moths ago. but better later than never :D marijne was in 90´s very very cute. absolute. with great voice and with everything perfect.

  • nostalgia kick

  • The video is sort-of based on Girl On A Motorcycle starring Marriane Faithful. She looked very wooden in that film, and I suppose thats what this video mimics. Just mho..... :)

Salad always made me think of Blur because the guitar sounds were similar to Graham Coxon's. Whatever, the first Salad album makes my top 5 all-time list along with Zeppelin, The Beatles, XTC and Floyd. So there.

  • The sad thing is, she has no idea about a bike! If she'd just taken 5 minutes to learn a little, she'd get more kudos.

Jeez, the first scene is embarrassing to watch...

  • @bigmumf No one gives a shit buttmunch ;D

  • @ariesscorpiorising you cared enough to reply, so who's the fucktard now? ;o)

  • @ariesscorpiorising I've had a long think about your comment and I've decided you really must be a penile tube.

  • @bigmumf Dweeeeboid. ;-)

  • I recall this group and sadly, it was bad timing for them. I love this video that took it's influence from 1968's 'Girl on a Motorcycle' film. Brilliant and a great song, too. I understand the vocalist, Marijne van der Vlugt is still performing in a band called, Cowboy Racer. Love the nostalgic twist to it all, too.

  • Cheers mostmusicisbad, Failed journalist perhaps,! NME perhaps!, or a very lonely sad, sad, sad , sad, jimey Saville clone.

  • actually this sounds more like the pixies

  • Blar de blarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • I remember she looked quite nice in this video. But not this nice.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

  • Sadly this band overlapped with the dismal period known as Britpop and their pre-Oasis sound had no place in a world of tedious Blurs, Sleepers and Menswears. This should have come out in 1991.

  • @mostmusicisbad What do you say?? BRIT ROCK the best fuckin thing of the 90s

  • @mostmusicisbad and what? They would have been more popular? Britpop is what 'popularised' british guitar music, they would have had less exposure - besides Blur had a LOT more decent songs than Salad (who sounded pretty Britpopy to me)

  • "Gone Commando." That was funny! I guess only a Norton enthusiast would get that one

  • I love salad. Drink me- album it's nostalgic for me

  • just played this album in the car!!!

    she is soooooooooooo beautiful.... xx

  • I met her in Manchester, and watched then Live so many years ago. Takes me back a bit.

  • Norton sounded a bit ??

  • That's because she's going to the great centre stand in the sky...

  • She didn't put the side stand down before pretending to get off it.

  • Yeah, I just noticed that too, LOL

  • Do you think she's gone Commando?

  • Brilliant album, brilliant song, brilliant band. The mid-90's were a great time for pop music.

  • clearly

  • Still sounds fantastic.Thank you for posting.

  • dreadfully directed. the camera was dying to linger on this M's face, we were simply starved here.

  • Fantastic

  • always fancied her when she was Mtv lol

  • cracking tune and cracking band, thanks for putting this on.

  • She (marijne) is dutch, and she is like the daughter of the most popular man for children in the Netherlands :p

  • Haven't heard this for years.

    Thanks for uploading

  • I really do miss this band too, suddenly recalled them after years of neglected, another fine underated indie band.

And i don't think music is necessarily in a better state now,i mean of course it is in terms of awareness, but will i then go on to remember all the bands around at the moment like i can the ones of the 90s?I don't think so!

anyone heardthe song Kiss my love by salad?i can't fintd it anywhere!

  • google it or jango it

  • Man, I loved this band - reckon I'm going to dig out one of their albums now, skin one up and enjoy! This was probably their best album but the next one was damn good too.

  • One does not "drive a motorbike", one "rides a motorcycle".

  • to be fair, i don't think she's really going to heaven on it either ;)

  • for today

  • Prolly she didn't even neva drove a motorbike... And pls, somebody tell her the classic wear for motorbikes is leather, not latex.

  • what does it matter whether she RODE a motorbike or not. the song is important, not whether or not it's real... people sing about casting spells, committing murder and dying doesn't mean they did it.

And also someone could wear whatever they wanted on a motorbike. i don't think the point of the video is to portray her as a "classic biker" ¬_¬

  • First of all, learn to spell properly. Secondly, and much more importantly, there is not a single reason on god's earth why girls in pop videos shouldn't wear latex rather than leather whilst astride a motorcycle. Simples.....

  • I fancied the pants off her when I was younger! She's hot! I wish indie music still had that rough edge that you don't really see now. Its too professional and homogeneous these days..

  • I think her Isolastics need adjusting.

  • saw this band live twice after i met the lead singer at readin 98 they were awesome,so was she!!

  • I saw them at the Colchester arts centre the year before I think :)

  • If more bikers drove rather than rode there'd be a few less gravestones bearing the names of previous "riders". Enjoy the song.

  • Listen to the lyrics, she also talks about flying her motorbike to heaven. It's art. :-)

  • oh, Gosh, She was my favourit sexiest MTV presenter ever!!!! I love her! :D

  • The drummer was awesome in State of Limbo!

  • excellent ca me rapelle ma "jeunesse"

  • I totally dug Marijne back in the old MTV Europe days. She made it all worth watching!!

  • Thats a windy restaraunt! Check out the head on yer man at 30secs. ha ha ha

  • Brilliant! I always loved the song but never saw the video. Marijne is just a gorgeous woman, and salad did some great songs back then! Brings up pleasant memories...

  • These must have gone under my radar at the time. Only found this 'cos I remember the singer presenting Glastonbury coverage that year and thought she was hot. She makes a great Marianne Faithful in this clip, Decent tune too.

  • love it, love it, love the salad

  • Diminished colthes is truly fab.

Thanks for taking me back too!

  • She presented on the old MTV Europe in 1992-1994. She was, and probably still is, wonderful. I think 'diminshed clothes' was their best song.

  • Diminished Clothes and Kent were the best! This reminds me of being 16... takes me back...

  • I loved when Match of the Day used Drink the Elixir - a great group i wish were still knocking out these wonderful songs

  • So good to see salad again. Remember live gigs vividly. Lots of energy and top tunes.

  • Never seen any video of Salad before and I don't think

they visited North America either, so I never saw them

in person, so this is magic! Salad were underrated considering song beauty output. Beautiful vid too, MORE PLEASE!

  • Marinje is just fantastic. I wonder what she is doing now.

  • She is in band called "Cowboy Racer". You can easily google them.

  • Brilliant! Thanks so much for adding it!
