Their only British top twenty and what a good one it is too. Great to see most of the group still alive and kicking. Always put on the DVD of 'The Last Waltz' Movie every so often. Too many people gone.
a great song brilliantly executed, few bands would have been capable of performing this so expertly despite its apparent simplicity.these men were absolutely connected musicians
Just finished reading it myself. Very interesting book. It would a huge bonus if they add another chapter and update us on what he's been up to since around
WHAT THE FUCK?!:D I THOUGHT THIS WAS A LITTLE FEET SONG?! WHAT THE HECK?? OH MY GOSH THIS IS JUST AWESOME! ...but I still love the Little Feet version
@supercalafrgusydney Little Feat are the greatest!!! One of my favs except for The Band... They be my fav!!!! Go for "Willin" by little feat. The greatest!
In 1970 I heard cripple Creek on the radio . Never hearing of this group before, but liking the way the cover looked plus the name The Band sounded pretty cool .I was in 7th grade , money was tight , what a great investment .It's dog eat dog and cat eat mouse , you can Rag Mama Rag all over my house .After 1 week I went back to Korvettes and bought Big Pink . Got each lp as it was released and then had to duplicate on cd in the 80's .Truly one of my top 5 groups of all-time !
@maxpowercardz The last Waltz!!! Getting redy to read Levons book, :Wheels on fire". Have heard its fantastic. Will post back as soon as done. Merry Christmas All!
I use to listen to this song in my truck and my 9 year old daughter thought I was nuts. haha...But she's 12 now and I took her to see Levon Helm when he came to Vancouver, and she ended up liking it..although unfortunately Levon's voice was shot. But Elvis Costello showed up and belted out a few tunes.
Anyway, I love these guys..their music is ageless.
@needianame I know how you feel man, im 16, a folk lover/ classic music lover and it gets near torture seeing everyone else listening to as you said (c)rap
@Hulkk123 I was probably 1 of 10 who listened to them when I was in school too. Nuttin wrong with that. We were the cool people and wasnt many of us, LOL So rock on my young friend! Glad to know there are some kewl people out there ! Merry Christmas!
All of the music just sounds Brilliant!! And who but Helm could sing this like that? Wonderful. And with Danko on the violin I just want to cry ---I miss all of the bank sooooo much At least I don't have to be Jealous I have met with all of them :---)
@MrStartingGun they used to write songs called Rags, country Joe and the Fish had a song called "Feel like I'm fixin' to die Rag."Like in Ragtime,Got it?Get it.Good! P.S. to wingatewolf,They died.I think that the sunflower is still playing, but I would check.bye bye
@yorbles Hey,I think I have some bad news..I think the sunfrower passed away a few years ago.I was touring with a Lady named Alberta Adams and we stopped at a placed called Cosmic Piazza...I heard it there. He was playing with a band out there.I hit me hard.............................. bluesmahn
@bluesmahn Hey Bluesmahn, you are right.Paris 97.Fito is running the show now and I am sure he is doing it up great.I sure will miss the bear and everyone, they were good friends and the best white blues band that ever took the stage.John Lee Hooker said that.Sunflower could get on stage when he couldn't talk and tear the house down.what a great bunch.I miss 'em.yorbles
All my vinyl's in a box, the Brown BAND album among them. God , I miss that outfit! They had it DOWN, man....I'ma check with them karaoke folks and see if they have that album, make 'em Get it if they don't. I could ROCK doing RagMama Rag since none of those regulars have ever heard it. Tuba music? NoShit? You kiddin' ,Right?
Thank you for posting their music, Brother....from de boddum of me tiny little heart. My tail had a lot of draggin' back then....Great memories
This is the best ever, heard it first on John Peel on a sunday afternoon in 1970. Bought it when it was 100 in the charts at the time, still love it as much today.
Thanks for mentioning the Arkie connection...since they are the personification of Old Dixie (with a "Canned Heat" boogie touch), I've always had a soft spot in my heart for this album -- yah, I'm from North Little Rock.
@Philippinesisdabest Im only 27 but my parents always listened to the band and other classics. I guess thats where my taste in music came from. What ever happened to Canned Heat?

we will never see the likes of this kind of group again. they were originals.
MorganHillChristine 3 months ago
Not "roisin", but "rosin" up the bow, which is an analogy to sexual friction in this case.
nifty886988 4 months ago
Just to clarify the lyrics: it is 'roisin the bow' not 'resin the bow'. It is an old Irish song.
