that cute little boy in thebowtie learned alot about life while watching this kid play... kinda sucks when you realize years later someone your age is lightyears ahead.... humbling...
@darristheman Thanks for the very kind comment - too kind perhaps. That little boy was about 5 years old and pretty good budding pianist himself, but we do not know how well he is doing. He really enjoyed Spencer's fooling around at the piano.
@jthameschoir08 Thanks, this is one of my favourite pieces, and I like the video too - fro me it is always fun to watch the reactions on the faces of the audience. Bob (and Spencer)
@hitchenc019 Thanks again. We just returned from Europe, where he played the entire first movement of Beethoven's Concerto No. 3! That caused a bit of a "ripple", especially after people realized he is only 10...
Fantastic job, Spencer - very impressive! I just stumbled across your videos and have really enjoyed watching. I get the feeling that you have a bright future ahead -- on whatever path you choose. Best of luck to you :-)
Spencer just won GOLD and SILVER in two International piano competitions last week - and will be playing at Carnegie Hall on 18-Apr-2010. We hope your feelings are correct.
Spencer, you are so talented... It is an honour to respond positively to your subscription request. You have a wonderful future ahead of you. Keep working hard!
Thanks! His hands are fairly big for an eight year old. Several people asked me if the video is "speeded-up" and it is not - it is played at the speed it was recorded.
Really spectacular, young man. You have really worked hard on this. I think you should use this video as blackmail to get a trip out for your favorite hot fugue sundae. That's what my kids do to me, anyway. :))
Thanks for your supportive comments - yeah, I think he deserves something to be rewarded with. (Now if we could just convince mom...) Bob, Spencer and Liping
Thanks very much for your support! It's going to be tough posting Merkin Hall performance, even though it would really nicely illustrate what Spencer can do, how well he plays (extremely) tough pieces of music, and how he can excite the audience.
Maybe Patrick would be willing to do it. Thanks again!
Spencer you have left me staggered. That was a brilliant piece of work for an 8 yo; not too many professionals can play it as well. I guess that was Dad & Mum and your two brothers sitting in the front row. They have every reason to be very proud of you. Reach for the stars, And you get Lots and Lots of them from me for this terrific effort.
Thanks very much, Patrick - good to hear from you again! Thanks very much for the encouraging words. We are anxious to see the M&C video from AADGT... (He was having a ball, especially in Rachmaninoff's Room at the Steinway Hall, which was kindly offered to us by Steinway & Sons) It is tough trying to avoid making comparisons...
To answer your question - Spencer is now eight (...and half) years old. Bob
Thanks! (it is also a lot of fun to watch the reactions of the audience...) All three (the teacher, mom and Spencer)worked hard to make it presentable.

amazing, how wonderful, I love that he was suddenly aware of the photographer; a real pleasure to see him lost in his music :)

Thanks for the very kind words. The people in the front row are parents of the two boys sitting with them, but not my family.
My dad is the old(er) man moving in the background with the photo camera.
From dad: Yes, we are thankful to the Lord for Spencer. Huge credit has to go to my wife, who supervises Spencer's routine piano practices.
We are very impressed with your vision, integrity and natural leadership abilities - never lose that!
Thanks again!

Spencer must have come very close to the Gold Medal......I am a European Member of the AADGT, but, living in Paris, I could not be among the jury.
I think I would have voted for gold.....Still, this is an excellent achievement for a brilliant performance.
How old is Spencer?
