I never liked Mr. Mallet.

He was far too condescending and patronising (for me!).

I think the same idea applies today, but is more common. Most youngsters don't want to have their socially expected 'naivety' rammed down their throats. They want to be spoken to with a degree of fair respect.

It's the overbearing, delusional parents that want the 'cutesy' crap - Their kids however, I think, want a bit of dignity shown to them.
