lovely livery colour -this was the colour of Newcastle transport -maybe thats why they changed-not to upset other boroughs and the strange place on the Wear.
Its time the system was extended to run on the Tyne Valley line to Blaydon.
Blaydon should become a bus "hub" feeding an enlarged station
@CoachAlex1996 The red destination blind signifies the now non existing "red line" where trains ran from Pelaw-Benton. Don't think it was just peak time services either, if i remembered correctly, they ran all day from Pelaw-Benton and back again.
I havent been to Newcastle / Whitley Bay for about 17 years now (what year did the airport open?) but this reminds me of my childhood Metro obsession!!!
I had a toy metro and everything as a kid, proper yellow and white! I think from a shop at the Monument or something.
A different coloured one and I would get well excited as a 4-7 year old! hahaha they did a funny yellow carriage and a burgundy carriage in like an old fashioned classy victorian theme or something...
I think the old yellow & white trains looked better because at least they were colour co-ordinated with the stations, unlike the modern trains which come in all colours and look odd...

Wow, that is an old style Metro.
and it's terminating at Benton!

you would have seen the original 1st metro car,car 4001,the prototype, built in 1976!
aardvarksanctury 3 years ago
Prototypes 4001/4002 delivered in 1975. They were used on the Metro test track, and then stored and put into passenger service in 1985.
4001 now has its original 1975 livery whereas 4002, last time I saw it, had the colour scheme of the old Metro website.
The prototypes have a number of differences to the later built units, such as the doors.
I assume they have to use the protos as the front carriage too, as there's no way of turning them around at Airport etc!
