@supernintendogames1 If you look up the etymology of the word, it refers to a wide variety of sports played 'on foot' -- literally. It doesn't revolve around simply kicking a ball during the entire game.
@THURGOODa the NFL season starts in September. Exhibition in beginning to end of august. The NFL is locked out as of right now but it is supposed to end soon. Im glad to see someone foreign who appreciates the game.
Tbh I though American football was the same as rugby but had armour on cause they were pussys but after playing madden the rules and the game play look more tactical and hard. I like football(soccer) but im starting to like American football as well although it has properly the hardest rules to understand I like the tactics around it. When do the seasons start?? Good day from the UK!
hey guys. im 145 and 5'7 very strong for my size at 14, benching around 185 for 5 reps. im going to play my first year of football next year in highschool. i dont like to catch. aha. so any suggestions would be good. thanks
Did he really just say center is most important offensive line positions? Left tackle gaurds the QB. Without Lef tackle, you get sacked. I was left tackle.
@RKDProductions411 That's the thing about Football is that all the positions are important. QB is probably the most important, but if you line can't block then even the best QB will struggle. American football more than any other sport is a complete team effort. If one guy doesn't execute on any given play it often doesn't work.
@RKDProductions411 I do agree with this, without a good center the ball might not make it to the quarterback. I played offensive tackle too in high school.
@kitward24 "Soccer" is still a great game. Sure the MLS sucks, but watching the US national team is always fun. And if you want to see some great soccer watch some English Premier League games.... Talk about passionate fans... WOW!!! The Champions league is also a great tournament to watch. Go Chelsea!!!
ok look we all come from different countries and i gaurentee we can find something we all like and so therefore why hate on everybody when we can just watch the video and if you have a problem with the video back out of it its as simple as that people
Why the hell is this sport called football as it uses least amount of foot work. And why is the real football (futbol) which originated in Europe and the creater named it football called soccer ?!?! WTF ! it should be the other way around
@Samin1423 Because the strategy is based on the feet. You run bye people and jump over them and you use feet to make field goals. You move your feet to JUKE and SPIN by people :]. It kinda makes sense right?
@rustypasta yes that is true. I have no problem with calling football as football but why is soccer called soccer.. it should be called football and the tackling one should be called american football.. lol its kinda confusing
@fuckitsgay - Because most of the games strategy and skins revolves on the foot. Like when your running the ball, yeah the ball is in your arm, but to run off people and to run bye people and stuff, the strategy is on your feet. Mainly, you need nice feet to run, manouver around people and manouver towards people, jump really high, and to know where your running if the ball is thrown. Not a good explanation but I tried.
Why fighting about different sports?! I'm a proud Portuguese guy, but I'm actually quite curious about northern american culture.
I love football (or as most people in the US call it, soccer), but I'm trying to learn the most about american football. I'm finding it very interesting and it's my goal to be able to watch a match and understand it all from the beginning to the end.
Every sport as it's place. And American Football and Football are both fabulous and different.
@gloriouseagle88 you should call the sport to which you refer by it's actual name "Association Football". Football comes from England, and the word referred to any sport played on foot rather than horseback. American football is as much football as association football.
@oJKBo Why should I call it "Association Football"?!
Do you, as a northern american, call your Football, "American Football"?!
I call Football (your "Soccer") the name I always called it, and the name the rest of the Western World calls it: Football (I actually call it "Futebol", which is Portuguese for "Football").
Let's not fight about this, because this discussion can possibly enter the domain of USA's self-centrism, and I don't want that because I like and respect the US culture...
@gloriouseagle88 as a northern american? Canadians have canadian football which they refer to as football. Im mindful of my audience so when online or in the company of people from other countries specify the type of football. soccer does not mean football, then american football, rugby, and aussie rules would all be soccer. soccer refers only to association football. Soccer was a name given to association football by a bunch of kids from oxford.
@gloriouseagle88 with the rise in popularity of association football in the united kingdom over other types it became known as simply football, just like how american football surpassed association football in popularity and is now referred to simply as football. I agree, we should simply realize that there are many football codes and they are all equally football. I dont get what self centrism has to do with this
@oJKBo I know that "Soccer" is actually a British word, contrary to what most people think.
And I understand now that you were only saying that I should consider that maybe not everyone reading my comment would understand that I was referring to "Association Football" when I wrote just "Football". I know there are a lot of "Football" kinds to be considered depending on the countries...
@oJKBo On the other hand, you have to admit that the Football that is recognized just as "Football" in the biggest number of countries in the World is actually "Association Football".
And, about the self-centrism... Lots of US americans have this annoying habit of trying to make everyone else admit that American Football should be called "Football", no matter where you're from. I'm not saying it's the case, with you... It's just a fact: USA tends to act like the centre of the Universe.
@gloriouseagle88 i will admit that it is the most popular worldwide. lol US americans. We act like the center of the universe because we have more influence in the world than any other country and were more powerful than any other nation so of course we feel a bit conceited or like the world revolves around us
@oJKBo That's exactly my point! This USA power and influence (decreasing as China's grows) often leads to a national idea of "We rule and other countries obey" and "We're right, and everyone else is wrong".
This kind of thinking often gets us (europeans, mostly) in arguments with US americans (as "Northern Americans" is also imprecise), about this "Football" naming thing. As we should call "your" football "Football", and not "ours". It's a stupid argument, anyway...
@gloriouseagle88 lol just say americans. no canadian or mexican objects to our demonym as were the only country in the continent to have america in our name.
@oJKBo And, by the way, by that "Portugal being a province of Spain" example, I just mean to show how far the self centrism goes. The idea we get on the outside is that you people just don't give a s*** about the rest of the World. Try to understand that, at least in my country, it's inconceivable that a grown person with education should not know where France is. Or, even so, where and what Portugal is... It's just too much self-esteem for one single country!
@gloriouseagle88 We do give a shit about the world. We give out more foreign aid than any other country. Theres 3 major countries in north america. We're bordered by mexico and canada. We don't live on a continent with as much diversity or history as europe. When there was an earthquake in japan and it was all over the news and my school had posters asking for donations to the red cross. we learn about whats happening in darfur, about the holocaust, about the arab israeli conflict
@gloriouseagle88 the problem is most of us will never leave this country and all that information about the world we learned just dissipates. What good is knowing where or what Abkhazia is? I really cant understand why people are okay with not knowing much of what goes on around the world but they are. We've put a man on the moon, built a railroad that spans our continent laterally, created the assembly line, and cured polio. So as for the conceited part, forgive some of us.
Just a question. Is there any possibility to an european american football player to enter in NFL? I mean, can an european enter in a NFL draft or something like that? I know I'm a bit starstruck, but since I was a child I dream of a chance of entering NFL =$
@bigman33able waterboy LOL, no seriously, if your fast try being a running back, if you can catch play WR, its not just how big you are its your skills that dictate where you play
im a freshman in high school and my year just ended i was 5'10 145 at the begginning of the season and played free safety i couldnt play because i was "too Small" and now i hit my growth spurt and am6'2 210 What should i play this year stick to db or swith over to offense?
im sure rugby is a fine sport. I love American football, I love the individual nature of each player having to do their job. study film and practice that's the nature of an American football player
definitely running back. Its hard to be short and be a receiver but it is actually easier to be a short running back because they are harder to tackle. And having strength and speed is a huge plus. Also, are you agile? Cause being able to stay on your feet helps a lot too.
I find it funny how all these people outside the USA leave comments on how they hate America but are so obsessed with american culture. Either they're so obsessed with american culture that they've gone crazy or it's just pure jealousy.... It looks like jealousy to me. People I think its time to get lives or counseling, your choice
@Drknoble ur prob riight most ppl r haters im not american but i dnt hate america if i hate america dat means i hate some my family lol xD so fucked dat
@Drknoble Americans are very spoiled... they don'y know what's happening around the world. The u.s are in so many wars but they arent big enough for you to give a shit.
@Drknoble American culture? If football is from anyone's culture, it's from England.
Europe is not obsessed with America, remember: Youtube does NOT represent real society. We are influenced economically yes, just as much as you are by us, culturally: no. All in all, we don't care much for the usa, we HAVE lives you know.
Also I checked and can't seem to find these America hating comments, it's not America most people seem to dislike, it's Americans.
@Drknoble its only them who feel like they have something to prove. why else do you think football fans dont care? because we know the truth, meanwhile, everyone else is scrambling for reasons to say it sucks or their little sport is tougher. its pathetic, and funny too because WE ARENT LISTENING hahahahaha
@Drknoble i dont live in the usa and i dont hate america but youre making a little dig and thats what starts arguments and cause people to say they hate other people
@demrazkalz hey dont be a wiseguy. just cuz im irish doesnt mean i play rugby. i play football (soccer) and cricket, tennis, basketball, gaelic, i am very sporty :)
first day of football tmrw....never played it before...don't know anything about it either!!! But I weigh 200 in the morning so i guess they might put me in some kind of defensive/blocking/tackling position?!?!
it doesnt matter if u dont kno anything about football...daz y u go dere to learn...after a while ur gunna bcome da new TITANS CHRIS JOHNSON LOL...but yea u should try it man..its fun im 12 nd im a gud wide receiver...
I play punt and kick-off returner. anytime they do a punt or kick-off i go out on the field to get the ball. I am fast but not that strong but gain a lot of yards. I am only 5'1" and weight about 105-110 pounds and i am a freshman
Lol, well, apart from me calling bullshit, let me reiterate this to you. I don't know about Highschool Weights, but you'll need more weight if you wanna play any serious position apart from cover corner.
I said twice before and now a third time. I get my weights from the NFL(and I assume NCAA). I have no idea on high school weights so how would i know about you?

Running back
SicSemperTyrannis87 2 years ago
you should try to play running back, or inside reciever (slot reciever) depending on how well you can catch and protect the ball.
matt62591 2 years ago
definitely running back. Its hard to be short and be a receiver but it is actually easier to be a short running back because they are harder to tackle. And having strength and speed is a huge plus. Also, are you agile? Cause being able to stay on your feet helps a lot too.

if i was strong what is a good position?
colombianguyyo 2 years ago
Well you HAVE to be strong to play football so that doesn't help much, but if you give me your stats I could help you.
Even though your comment if 4 weeks old and football season is almost over...yeah.

I find it funny how all these people outside the USA leave comments on how they hate America but are so obsessed with american culture. Either they're so obsessed with american culture that they've gone crazy or it's just pure jealousy.... It looks like jealousy to me. People I think its time to get lives or counseling, your choice

@Drknoble Americans are very spoiled... they don'y know what's happening around the world. The u.s are in so many wars but they arent big enough for you to give a shit.
PIEgunz 1 year ago

I play punt and kick-off returner. anytime they do a punt or kick-off i go out on the field to get the ball. I am fast but not that strong but gain a lot of yards. I am only 5'1" and weight about 105-110 pounds and i am a freshman
eastonfreak11 2 years ago

streetskaterboy0o0 2 years ago
well, if you put (at least) 50 pounds you could play Wide Reciever(slot, definitely not flanker)
that all depends on your speed.
now say you put on 70 pounds you could be a halfback
of course idk about highschool weights(nfl WR's usually weigh at least 185 pounds)
darthnegate 2 years ago
what grade are u talkin about cause im freshman and i way 120-30 and im like ranked 75 HB and WR by the espn
axsmith234 2 years ago
Lol, well, apart from me calling bullshit, let me reiterate this to you. I don't know about Highschool Weights, but you'll need more weight if you wanna play any serious position apart from cover corner.
darthnegate 2 years ago
were do u get ur weights from cause i dont know most people in my entire team over 180 freshman. and wer undefeated
axsmith234 2 years ago
*facepalm*
I...DONT.....KNOW.....HIGH....SCHOOL.....WEIGHTS
I said twice before and now a third time. I get my weights from the NFL(and I assume NCAA). I have no idea on high school weights so how would i know about you?
