I'm on my school JROTC ranger team and sometimes i wonder why I put myself threw so much pain day after day. It can not help me much when I do Join the Army. For the fact, I'm not qualified to be a ranger because I am a female. The military is so sexist, but hey, they have their reasons I'm sure... I'm not the one to argue.

Top respect to the Rangers, I saw a few of them tabbing over a load of fields a few miles from my house, i'm in Britain, they must have been on duty in Northwood HQ, a big MOD/NATO base about 15 miles from where I was. They were carrying huge bergens and din't look like the were in the slightest bit worn out. Definitely a hardcore bunch of guys.

And yes Rangers have extemely hard training but they were never ment to be able to take down cities full of combat effective enemy personnel like the Marines. I think you can try out for the Rangers from whatever MOS, but you'd probably have to go through Infantry AIT and training first, if you haven't already. Then I think you'll be sent to Airborne school, then RIP. Hope that helps.

Yes it's possible. It is best to try to get a Ranger contract when you enter the army. They will be tougher on you but in the end it's worth it.

You dont need to be in the army for a while..Im able to enlist with infantry AIT, Airborne school and ranger indoctrine program. Currently its unavailable so im waiting for it but I wouldnt take the chance of enlisting as infantry, spending a few years in a regular unit and then requesting airborne school or RIP. I have heard its very difficult to opt in to after your already in. Your best bet is to wait for infantry ait with Option 40 (Airborne school and ranger indoctrine program)

personally, being ranger qualified.... i would tell this young man to wait until hes finished with his boot camp, and AIT before he addsranger to his contract, and heres why.... this way he wil have a feel for what he wants, he may want rangerschool now, but he may not want it after a few weeks on sand hill. like you said, shoot for he 25m target first bud, and then work your way up to the 300.

Bottom line, Rangers are a Special Operations unit, they have a selection process where as with the 101st and 82nd people get assigned.

Very good question.

The 101st and 82nd are elite infantry units, they can also perform raids like the 75th. Yet, the 75th Ranger Regiment is a Special Operations light Infantry unit. Their training is way more intense, they learn how to work with other SOF units and are specially equpied and trained for small unit raids as well as operating as a whole Battalion. If the 101st and 82nd had that type of training, selection process and money they would have been a SOF unit like the 75th.

Note that if a Ranger candidate does not perform acording to the standards set, eighter during RIP or during his time in the Battalion he will be kicked out and send into the 101st or the 82nd. That is something that is not present in the two units in question. All Rangers have to go through Ranger School (get "Tabbed"). Also, Rangers go through the 'cool schools' like SCUBA, MFF, SOTIC (now SFSC) etc. Paratroopers from the 101st and 82nd don't. The 75th is a great place to begin your SOF life.

I'm currently in Army ROTC, and I want to be an Officer leading Rangers. I'm a Freshman, and aside from my academics (which I am good at so it's not even remotely an issue) I run on average 4-6 miles a day (some days I do excess of 10 miles), and do between 100-200 push ups and sit ups between the running, then I use the weight room after and do 4 sets of ten reps on designated muscle groups. Am I doing enough physically? Or do I need more to make the cut?

Physically it really only matters the first day. You need fat on you. Ranger school will break all your muscles down and you will have to rely on bone strength, You need to ensure you want it bad. Its all a mental game. And remember learn from your NCOs. They are your backbone.
