almost 36 yrs ago bob scholl the lead singer here was taken too early and in such tragic circumstances too. you and your voice and your smile are missed by many
@fpetro88 that means someone called shithead on here on the comments is your relation then hahahahaha and they said jerry is dead get real you both liars
A top shelf group, & a bit innovative at the time. Up till this point (mid-1957), a majority of the white vocal groups still had a "pop-shlocky" sound to them. The Mellokings musical arranger was Dick Levister, who was black, & was pretty much responsible for their sound. Compare it with any other white vocal group up until that time. They laid a lot of foundation with their sound, & may be "possibly" a lot of inspiration for the NYC white groups to follow, such as Dion & the Belmonts.
you have to respect music like this and appreciate it these people were actually were very good at singing not like a lot of artist these dayz who have to use auto tune no affense to artist who do use auto tune haha
Can people stop the childish arguing back and fourth, you guys obviously searched this video to enjoy it so just enjoy it, Also I'll have you know that two of the people in this video happen to be my grandfather (Jerry Scholl)=man on the left of Bob, and grand uncle (Bob Scholl)=lead singer and I dont think they would appreciate all of this fighting, I can guarantee they're rolling in there graves right now! So STOP!!!
"I think you'll like this place, Bonnie. The food and wine are excellent. And as for the show....you'll see for yourself !"
Ahhhh...The year is 1957. You're out with your best girl, having a fine steak, an even finer glass of Beaujolais... and the Mello Kings are the night's entertainment !
But why the suit, daddy-oh ? Don't be such a square !
This song is in my top 3 of all time. I am very fortunate to have the album "Tonite, Tonite", with the nice picture of the group sitting in a car." Valerie" is another song I really like, and it is on the album. "Tonite, Tonite" did not become a big hit in 1957(which is hard to believe), but it became a classic around 1960-61, when Murray The K played the heck out of it on 1010 Wins. Great Song Staycott
This is just 50's smooooooooth as it's best! A little bird tells me PJ Proby had some part of this particular recording - anyone know anymore? Thanks for this - lovely!!!
I remember your comments on The Bronx Board several years ago . If it was not you then it was someone with a similar experience . The Mello Kings were just ordinary guys who suddenly had a hit. The Dimensions are another story and they came from Pelham Parkway in The Bronx .
A quick search on IMDB learned me that this scene must either be from "Sweet Beat" (1959) or from "The Amorous Sex" (1962), which appears to be a racier version of the same film.
