the original is superior. it was intended to be a throwback to horror movies and it was great. the remake looks good. but it dosent top the free arcade feel of the original. besides the remake has no comedy to make you enjoy it more. :p both are amazing. 1 is better though.
I recently finished REmake and really liked it. However the original will always be special. The voice acting is so bad it's good and I love the intro. Barry was just priceless. When I first heard him in REmake I was like "That's not my Barry". Still a great game though.

Yeah... you only have 2 options, like the other guy said... either buy a Gamecube, or buy a Wii... don't let your Sony fanboism get in the way of you playing 2 of the best Resident Evil titles in the series... "I'm not a fan of the systems" is no excuse, if you REALLY want to play these games. The remake and Zero will NEVER appear on any Sony system. The Gamecube is relatively cheap, and I just payed 13 bucks for REmake, and Zero is only 10 bucks for the Gamecube.

In the original I doubt they even intended to actually name the Dog that attacked Joseph (The Cerberus/Cerberi). Plus you can barely tell that they're even ATTACKED by dogs.
The dogs have names in the original... if you ever made it to the lab, there is a projector slide that has pictures, and all the real names of the monsters, including cerberus. And you see Wesker as an Umbrella scientist.
I think too many look at this in too modern a stance, the orginal was meant to be corny and stupid, how many of commenters were even alive dueing the 90's? What sounds good and looks good in that culture, doesn't for the west. Not that it's a bad thing, just sometimes...you know...gets you out from the moment of atmosphere.

@fat1fared I'm sorry, I must have misunderstood what you wrote the last time. Actually I didn't mean western vs japanese horror, but more like story settings/situations and mostly dialogues. If you compare a japanese dialogue to a western(and by that I mean European aswell) you can see lots of unnecessary and sometimes even ridiculous lines in the japanese games. I don't know, maybe it's ok for them, but it's weird for us sometimes to see how a character acts in their games.

Examples: Silent Hill 3: Heather looking into the camera, kicking a horrific creature in anger after it is killed(it was in the final boss cutscene it may not look bad, but ingame it's not appropriate to see it), and ofc the little texts you can read if you examine things.
What I'm trying to say is, sometimes these things can really take you out of the atmosphere of the situation/horror and thus it loses that extra creepy factor.

I think that in some ways the Remake was better, but in others the original was better. For instance, seeing Joesph's mutilated body shows how savage and barbaric the Cerberus' are. However, seeing the blood from his detached camera slide down the lens gives you a creepy feeling.
@TakedaIesyu some things computer games just can't recreate. Live action gore, even cheesy gore, always looks better in my opinion. Maybe they could mix up the live action with some cgi for a good blend.

The RE Remake Sucked Ass Its a 70% new game that is NOT a remake, and sure the opening and VOs are alot better than it's PS1 counter part but think back to 1996 how many games had VOs? So for it's time it was new and fresh and really cool. In a way i decently liked the RE remake b/c i really like franchise but to me the PS1 game will be far remembered over the gamecube reboot

Then get a memory card for $10, then buy this and RE:0 for about $10 each, all for around $60, less than some new single game releases :D If you didn't mean the remake well, copies of the original RE directors cut (and trust me that's the one you want, the non-DC version didn't have auto-aiming) can be had for somewhere between 10 and 20 bucks usually, as can a PS1.
@RattyRandnums I would've have done this but instead, I got a Wii so I can play the Resident Evil REmake and RE 0 in widescreen. RE for PS1 didn't have auto-aim? Interesting.
@marcosAKAshorty2895 Renting games in Japan is illegal so in the 90s it was common practice to increase the difficulty of games for the American version so they couldn't be beaten on a rental. The hope being that people would have to buy them instead.
Resident Evil did this largely by eliminating auto-aiming for the original US release, which (according to the game's director in a later interview) made it so difficult members of the original development team even had trouble beating it.
PS- Oh also if you still want to know why the remake (and RE:0 for that matter) hasn't been ported to anything besides the Wii it's because the game was made as part of an exclusivity deal between Capcom and Nintendo.
CGI's are just great, but they are totally based in the original and they are less gore. I prefer the ps1 version allthought it's visually less atractive
Personally I think that Joseph Frost did an excellent acting in the original one. Far better than some actors I've seen do it great in the world of movies.
I would place this with the Dawn of the dead original and its remake too. The remakes are great but I think they really did not need to do remake them. For me I like the original over the remake but just by a little and also was there anything memorable from the remake, does anybody talk about the remake as much as the original, it goes to show you that the original is still the best and will always be the best no matter what happens.

because the original game, which wasnt meant to have a sequel, was based off of various 1940s-60's B- Horror movies, which is why the dialogue is cheesy, and why the story is jsut out there in terms of eeriness and cheese.
in the sequels they tried to get rid of those elements, add a better story, and better voice acting, so the in-joke isnt there anymore.

Then get a memory card for $10, then buy this and RE:0 for about $10 each, all for around $60, less than some new single game releases :D If you didn't mean the remake well, copies of the original RE directors cut (and trust me that's the one you want, the non-DC version didn't have auto-aiming) can be had for somewhere between 10 and 20 bucks usually, as can a PS1.

@marcosAKAshorty2895 Renting games in Japan is illegal so in the 90s it was common practice to increase the difficulty of games for the American version so they couldn't be beaten on a rental. The hope being that people would have to buy them instead.
Resident Evil did this largely by eliminating auto-aiming for the original US release, which (according to the game's director in a later interview) made it so difficult members of the original development team even had trouble beating it.

I would place this with the Dawn of the dead original and its remake too. The remakes are great but I think they really did not need to do remake them. For me I like the original over the remake but just by a little and also was there anything memorable from the remake, does anybody talk about the remake as much as the original, it goes to show you that the original is still the best and will always be the best no matter what happens.

because the original game, which wasnt meant to have a sequel, was based off of various 1940s-60's B- Horror movies, which is why the dialogue is cheesy, and why the story is jsut out there in terms of eeriness and cheese.
in the sequels they tried to get rid of those elements, add a better story, and better voice acting, so the in-joke isnt there anymore.
