@murraywan The male singer is Danilo Caymmi....Danilo and Dori are brothers...their father, Dorival Caymmi, was also a famous singer and composer....Nana Caymmi is also a daughter of Dorival...and also a top singer....the DNA of the family is a gifted "pedigree" for music !

@jwandresl Actually, Danilo is a very common name in Brazil. It certainly has Slavic roots but anyway there are thousands of Poles, Ukranians and Russians in Brazil.

I had not heard this song 'til I saw "Black Orpheus". I found it to be one of the most haunting, saddest, songs I've ever heard. It is absolutely beautiful, even if I can't speak Portugese.

@schnertblatt If you felt what you described you've captured even the essence of the lyrics...Tristeza means "sadness" and the lyrics describes the illusion of the poor people in Brazil that live for the carnival...and carnival lasts just 4 days...so the rest of the year is pure sadness..."sadness doesn''t have an end...happyness has ( just four days) !." that is what the lyrics says !
