yah, but their just riffing over scales, think of it as a symphony. phils parts totally stand up on their own, if you can play them without everyone else. and jerry may be noodling, but it's not "LOOK AT ME!!" kind of stuff, but playing for the tune. bob is bob, one of the best invisible rhythm guys ever, and keith fit really well. again, everyone is playing for the tune. don't hear that a lot anymore.
Many have tried, but nobody could get from point A to point B with as much grace, ingenuity and coolness as Jerry. As far as Lesh goes, take another listen; I'm not aware of anyone who even comes close to doing what he did on the base. The drummers were simply great; you could stick them in any improvizational jazz band. Weir was a great add to the mix and Keith & Donna were compliments whom I was fond of....This is what I was thinking 33 years ago- the band was still evolving and i got to watch
hippy bullshit? The funny thing is I could not stand the Dead until I was drugged to a concert (no pun intended). I then proceded to see 7 more and although it was years ago, they will always have a place in my soul. If you don't like the Dead, well, I actually feel sorry for you. Something must be asmiss somewhere.
why is this in black and white when its in the 70s ive seen jefferson airplane and jimi hendrix and other psychedlic bands from the 60s live wen its 1967 and 68 and woodstock 69 on youtube not in real life well i wish im only 17
if we're talking about donna.... lets be honest. she added much needed upper harmonies that rounded out their vocal sound, making them sound much more professional. and her pitch?
DEAD ON. find one example of her singing off key and get back to me.
Are you kidding? I can find a lot of Donna moments where I want to smash the tape deck. When she was on she was great but when she wasn't it was like a train wreck.
well put adave. all one has to do is watch these videos and you get a serious apprecation to what she added to a live performance. he gentle and racious personality seems to shine. as far as disliking anyone who sang with the dead, how can one not appreciate them all. and even now with the dead still rockin dont you appreciate it era. brent, pp, keith, vince...rock in grateful peace
Kieth and Donna added heaps. In my opinion, their collaboration, Europe '72was the band at their peak. The "Wall of Sound" period. Brent was an awesome vocalist, My God what a voice!!!
met Donna lately ...? an extremely gentle & gracious Lady who mostly had crappy monitors in a very loud band! Honestly it's amazing the crap people who were NEVER onstage dare to post!! back way off children, until you walk a mile in her sandals!!
This song and vid freaking sucks

I'm glad to have gotten a chance to see them with Jerry two times in my life. He was one of the true wizards of guitar.

I think the issue with Donna is one of blending--her voice is often not subtle enough for backup.

These 76 shows were like a soundcheck for what was to come in the spring of 77.

@JimmyPage97 maybe your mom can die, you probably don't want her to live too long either

@inst1g8t0r You know what someday she will. Its a hard reality that I still try to cope with. But that is just life I suppose.

I don't think so. At least the last time I checked, I was not.
But still, your question baffles me. Are Donna-likers or Donna-lovers typically what your grandpa calls a goddamn redneck?
