  • ok here the thing, I don't know how you danse in america, but classic danse is french, and Im french and I danse; The video above shows : Tombé - Pas de bourré - Grand jeté!! not a saut or pas de chat. How can you mistake that. Maybe you use different words in english but, normaly the name are he same. Otherwise that would an insult to the classic danse lol! just accept that...

  • weird prep, so exaggerated/

  • I'm french, we created classic dance, please don't say stupid things, it is not a saut de chat it is un grand jeté !! you can do it with developé ! saut de chat is a small jump one leg after the other...

  • @Bugy34 What you're referring to is Pas De Chat. This is a Saut De Chat.

  • @lkfredd definetely a grand jeté developpé in this video. I do classic danse in france, and we have created classic danse in europe:france, so I really know it lol just write grand eté on youtube and you will see that ;)

  • Eso no es un grand jete es un Sau de chat!

  • That wasn't a grand jete.

  • Maybe it's just because I come from the Cecchetti method (I'm guessing this is Russian), but that preparation was just so exaggerated looking that it made me laugh!

  • @sluttyfrogmagician nono, italian :)

  • I LOVE HER ARMS

  • I love how she runs off after the leap <3

  • Grand Jete: start battement tendu jete (brush the leg) and go into a jump; knee stays straight and does not develope

Grand Pas de Chat (or Saut de Chat in non-Vaganova methods): the movement in this video

  • @noachka Listen to this person, there are so many methods and syllabuses out there. There's not point in arguing! The lady in the video did the movement perfectly, so that's all there is.

  • @killbunnysforbois She may have done the movement well, that is not what I am arguing about (actually, I don't think I am arguing about anything). It is a question of terminology. Perhaps in other syllabi, there is no discrimination between grand jete and grand pas de chat.

  • just to clarify for anyone watching this: this is NOT a grand jete, it is a saute de chat. In order for a jete of any kind to actually be a jete, the leg must me brushed forward. In a grand jete, the front leg remains straight and comes up as if in a grand battement. In a saute de chat, the front leg comes through develope as is seen in this video. This is a miscommunication that is becoming much to common amongst dance students, so I felt I had to clarify.

  • oh my gosh people really?! stop being so critical about what this video calls the jump and about how "bad" she is! are you all so bored with your own lives that you have to come on here and say negative comments just to make yourself feel better??

  • so.. is a grand jete basically just a leap?

  • @Hot4wordsfan lol i guess

  • I can never do that I can't get my legs up that far when I jump

  • that was a bad grand jete.

    1. it was not grand. it was small and not splitted enough

    2. she didn't "fly".. as in she went for the jump then came back down straight away

    3. Leg bent

  • back knee is bent

  • @SuperTuityFruity I guess it sort of makes it look more liek you can do it evne if you cant, thats what i mean.

  • My arms are shorter than my legs,im a shawty! im soo jealous of people with long legs....its so easy for them to do this!

  • i wounder were she went! lmao

  • @HouseofMuse HAHA!!!!

  • je vois pas on l'on peut voir des sauts de chat dans cette video

  • Is not a grand jete, because her front leg does a developé

So this is a Saut de chat!!

  • @TheRobbieful Its not her front leg, its her back leg you fucking retard.

  • @TheRobbieful there are two types of grand jete: with develope and with battement. You should have learned that before you learned saut de chats!

  • @TheRobbieful yes you´re right

  • THAT WAS A GRAND JETÉ.

Sorry to all you others saying it's a saut de chat.... it's not. :)

  • personally, the video is too blurry for me to even see her back leg when she leaps, so.. xD

  • the leg was devoped it was a saut de chat

    hahah

  • hey guys, in states you call this a saut de chat? Sorry but in France we call this a Grand Jeté XD...

  • @ESMxChaosTeam No we call it a Grand Jete here in the states too. haha :)

  • Grand jeté is done with both your legs extended. This is a grand pas de chat because she bends her knees. This is what vaganova (russian) school says. I don't know if she follow some other syllabus and they call steps with other names.

  • @GothicLilith pas de chat????....i dont think so.

  • @gitrdunnn

I'm a vaganova ballet teacher, we call this jump a grand pas de chat because your leg has to dévélopé to reach that extension, in grand jeté your leg must be already straight when you jump. ^_^

But I think this is not vaganova and maybe they don't make the difference between the two jumps.

  • grand jete sur le chat!!! it´s not a simple grand jete!!!!!!!

  • @danceandsing00 Hahahaha... poor cat!

  • this is definitely a saute de chat, not sure how to spell that. a grande jete involves a jete, meaning the knee does not bend and go into a develope like it does in the saute de chat, which she clearly did in this video, look at the front leg

  • its a so de cha (i dont know how to write it) :)

  • DO NOT DEVELOPE THE LEG AT ALL DURING A GRAND JETE!!!! you are only allowed to develope the leg in a saut de chat. also the preperation was way overdone

  • where is this music from? great grand jeté :o)

  • WHO IS THIS GIRL`?

  • Have a look at 3:09 on this clip

    youtube.com/watch?v=XOSrJKXITeM

Now that is a real Grand Jete

  • That was a saut de chat . . .

  • @TeamTARDIS2015 huuhh ?? no. saut de chat is like a jump where u do kind of like 2 retirés ... it's hard to explain without showing it but this IS a grand jeté for suure.

  • @FyreBalletDancer Not for us. A saut de chat is a grand jete where you devlope the front leg. What you tried to describe to me sounds like a russian stag in my book.

  • @TeamTARDIS2015 ok, i didnt know u called it like that. for the russian step, we have that to. the saut de chat for us is kind of like the russian step only it's one leg at the time and u travel on the side while doing it.

  • @FyreBalletDancer Oh then that's an Italian Pas de chat. Any how we know that our book are different. <3

  • @TeamTARDIS2015 yea, I really didnt know ! where do u live ? much love

  • @FyreBalletDancer Cedar Falls, Iowa. Go TiGeRs!

  • There are differences in schools and methods in some, this is called a grand jeté through développé, in others it is a saut de chat. They're both correct depending on your ballet training background. Don't diss her! She's amazing.

  • Yeah that's def. a saut de chat.

  • Need to show that in slow motion to fully appreciate the physics behind it.

  • i think russians call this a grand jete, but it is commonly know as a saut de chat

  • @timecharmsyou Nope! :)

Grand jetè is like a grand battement devant and in arabesque. Saut de chat develop from the passè!

  • well I thought( and i was taught) that in a saut de chat you start by développé- ing your leg out, not in a grand jete.

so wouldn't this be a saut se chat?!

  • this a grand pas de chat with chasse, not a grand jete ...

  • Это не гранд жете, это падеша вообще- то...

  • omg i hope this isn't offensive but i cracked up when she floats of the screen at the end haha. but honestly, people need to stop criticizing...honestly. i don't see most of you putting up vids of yourself doing this...just stop

  • Wow that was just random and didn't look right. I hope people don't look at this and go "I want to dance like her..."

  • ESO NO ES UN GRAND JETE!!! eso es un Saut de Chat!

    bonita tecnica pero esta herrado!!

  • This particular jump will arise many discussions. In france (and most of europe) it's known as a Grand Jeté Développé while in US and Cuban methods is refered as Saut de Chat. It's like discussing if "Bras en couronne" is the 3rd or 5th position of the arms...

  • sorry, but that's a saut de chat, not a grand jete. any way, was great

  • Um... you obviously don't know what ur talking about

  • I used to be the best at these in my class... but then I grew tired of it all together and quit. I regret that sooo much -____-

  • What is going on with all the comments? Does anyone here know ballet terminology?

Grands jetés start with a grand battement of the front leg. Sauts de chats are similar to grands jetés, but one dévelopés the front leg. This looks like either a saut de chat or a sloppy grand jeté.

  • That wasnt a grande jete it was a leap.

leaps have a devlope unfolding leg. grand jete throws the leg straight

  • que elegancia que tenes al bailar, muy lindo grand jete excelente todos tus videos!!!!

    saludos !!

    Mariels

  • This baby is hot!

  • thats a fucking grande jete you dumbasses

  • um, hello, a grand jete is when you brush up like a grand battement with a straight leg and stretched foot. this was clearly developpe.

  • @xo0xdramaqueenxo0x there are two types of grands jetes: developes, and one that starts with a brush...

  • Does any know how to do a sort of grand jete that turning? Jump and extand in split

through both attitude devant and derriere...

Can you all figure that out?

  • Is it like... a barrel turn? That's what I think you are describing... I've done those before... sort of :P

  • I call that flick jete

  • STOP arguing about saut de chat/grand jete blah blah blah.

In some schools, they are two different things; grand jetes are brushed. thats probably been covered a million times but im saying it ALL AGAIN.

anyways in some schools there are two grand jetes; one brushed and one developeed. in other schools there are saut de chats which are developeed and grand jetes which are brushed. STOP THE ARGUING i know that dancer141994 already said this same thing but i HAVE TO SAY IT AGAIN GEEZ PEOPLE! stop

  • this is a saut de chat, not grand jete..

    she developed her leg

  • @itsxxSara two types of grand jete: develope and brushed

  • French Call that Grand jeté not pas de chat

  • isn`t grand jete...

  • This isnt a grade jete! IT IS A PAS DE CHAT! its not that hard to tell the difference but so many people get it wrong!

  • This jump has different names in different systems...

  • i mean saut de chat

  • tht is a saut de chat bc saut de chat is wen u extend ur front le wen doing the jump. grand jete is wen ur leg goes into the jump straight

  • CHILL everyone.

ballet steps change names from school to school.

at my school this is called a grand jete.

a saut de chat is a jump in fifth.

  • isn't that a saut de chat?

  • this is definitiely NOTT a grand jete.

  • it is grand pas de chat....

  • nice :)

  • 0:06

    wrong left leg

  • you cannot call everything grand jete! this was Pa de chat! but i can understand, this is not Vaganova... pff

  • There's a nice article on the dancer in this video, Gabrielle Yudenich, in this month's issue of Pointe Magazine. She's a rising star.

  • in our syllabus it's called grands jetes developpe devant... they call everything grands jetes

  • i know... like i said i don't think this is a gran jete

    but i don't think it's badly done.

it's a very nice saut de chat

  • First of all, yes, this IS a grand jete. Second of all, haven't any of you ever seen Russian ballet dancers performing this step? Relaxing the knee of the back leg is a common trick/technique and is considered quite acceptable, even standard.

  • @kdub10009 First no this is NOT a grand jete. A grand jete is done with 2 straight legs and a saut de chat is done with the legs developeeing out .... which is what she did

  • greaat job!

  • ive seen beter jetes and her back leg was bent

  • sorry, but I don't think this was very good. The back leg was clearly bent.

And it didn't look like you jumped very high.

  • Her back leg was bent. =[

  • excellent, try not to let your arms fly up too high on the jete, aim lower than they should be

  • ????????????

  • no . she did a tombee pas de bourre and the saut de chat

  • this is a pas de cheval!!! it can be a jeté develope, too!

  • pas the cheval???....mmm sorry noo.. its a

saut de chat :P .. thats what it is :)

  • ooh... very pretty. good job.

  • That was beautiful! I love how you used your arms so dramatically when you began.

  • saut de chat

  • i think that what she actually did wasnt a grande jete.. she went thorough deveeloppe not a straight leg... what she did was a sotasha or how ever u spell it [[i love doing zig zags tho]]

  • I think this is a pas de cheval...isnt it?!

  • Very Good :@

  • beau grand-jeté!!

  • It's GRAN PAS DE CHÁS!!!NOT GRAN JETTÉ

  • THATS SODE DE CHAT NOT GRAND JETE

  • no its not the matter of style ballet has been around for some time and all u have to do is excute it and not put your own personal style...u might as well call ballet hip hop...

  • It's just a matter of style. To me this port de bras looks just perfect. There is no "right" or "wrong" way - it's a matter of style. She was obviously trained in a more Balanchine oriented way. Which i personally PREFER.

  • yeah....seriously! i take offense also! ...im not a dancer w/ paballet but im just about their biggest fan. ;)
