The way the performers face each other reminds me of Octabones. AARRRRRGHHHHH!! If only the music was only printed in Europe. (and costs like 90 something euros)
i absolutely LOVE this!!!!! this looks like so much fun!! you guys are amazing! is there any way i could get this? buy? my friend and i have been looking for something like this for our last music performance... hmm :)
ive been trying to find how to contact ethan maltby for a month now and no luck... i ran into this piece, and it would be perfect for our senior recital, anyways you could ask him for me"?
Even though this comment is pretty old, but where I'm taught, Burton is considered the easier version and the untalented way of using four mallet. I don't see it, but many of the people at my school do because we all do Stevens. Yea that could be why he said "wierd." =D
I agree. Burton's grip has a lot more power in the hand-to-hand stroke, that's why it's used a lot in on vibes when chords are the primary target. On Marimba when the player is striking individual notes or rolling their chords, it is easier to use.
I learned both. When I start kids on 4 mallets, I usually teach Burton's first. Mostly because their hands aren't big enough to control Stevens. Both have their share of advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on the music being played I think.
@Madmariofan: It's not easier or untalented at all, just different. Stevens allows for greater control over changing intervals and things like ripple rolls, while Burton is more useful for alternating and simultaneous strokes in more-or-less fixed intervals, especially at faster speeds, like in this video. They probably know both grips, but Burton does make sense here.
Ok, Ive had a lot of people ask me for the music for this, and basically the composer doesnt like sending out the score because of copyright; but if you check out the noise ensemble fansite, on the contacts page you'll find Ethan Maltby, and you can email him yourself saying what you want it for, and he might let you have a copy.
Hi chavhunter! I know I can't buy the sheetmusic anywhere online, but if you could ask him personally that would be great! I'd love to study this piece. Here's my email: kirstenkrook @ hotmail . com Let me know what he thinks of your request! What do you study?

Are they both playing in Burton? Weird.
jewfro82991 3 years ago
why is that weird?

Using Burton or traditional is really just preference for the most part. Whatever you're comfortable with.

exactly, why is that weird?

That's odd, because I've always considered Stevens to be easier to control and for getting more accurate placement.

Is there any particular reason it sounds like xylo?
CaptainYutube 4 years ago
thats because one of the players is always at the top of the instrument, which is basically the same as the lower half of the xylophone.
xtreme0204 3 years ago
that...or it could be a harder mallet head
sondico88 3 years ago
ok, not so sure why I got a -1 on that last comment... But im sure it's a combination of both of those. Really cool piece.
