Lakewood Guitars, in Germany, crafted the instrument specifically for Sungha. The top is Grade 4A European Spruce; the back and sides are Macassar Ebony. The signature is Sungha's; it was lifted from his first cover of his first CD, enlarged, and then inset into his fretboard.

The entire guitar was handcrafted. It is worth thousands.

Thank you for your kind words. However, I really don't have any "inside" information. Everything that I find out about Sungha is publicly available either at 'jwcfree' or at other websites. Information can sometimes be gleaned at other sites by 'Googling' the name 'Sungha Jung'.

I enjoy reading, and I've loved guitar music since I was a boy. I was searching for Chet Atkins videos when I stumbled across Sungha.

Sungha's new classic is a Khaya, a division of Lakewood.

acoustic is bronze strings, unless u have a guitar made for fingerpicking. then its steel string. and he is obviously fingerpicking, so his is a steel string

I just thought they had different clarity of tone and emphasized different ends of the audio spectrum, but what do I know. Bottom line is different types of strings produce different sounds and you go with what produces the sound you like, be it flamenco strings and finger picking or flat picking on nylon.

@dehualiang no. sungha has PLAYED FOR 4-5 yrs, starting from when he was 8-9 years old (in Korean age he started at 10 yrs old, which is around 8 or 9 in International age)

@MrAitAliProductions haha i wonder'd that a while back as well, but those are finger picks known as alaska piks, apparently its for different sound quality or its better or more comfortable to use if you get used to them

@LeRichard92 I read somewhere that he had problems growing strong fingernails when he was younger so he went with aLaska piks. I don't know if he still has that problem and just using the piks now because they sponsor him or he got used to it. I'm not a musician but musicians seem to think there is a difference in the sound.

A recent video---I'm not sure who posted it, but it wasn't jwcfree---shows a closeup of Sungha's fingertips. His fingernails are worn short and he has developed a thick callus on each of his fingertips. He must be playing a lot off-camera without his aLaskapiks. I remember a Korean talk show host who several years ago examined his fingers and compared them to the callus developed by Korean martial artists. In Sungha's case, it is of course confined to his fingertips.
