The song is great and an amazing performance could have been built upon it - but with professional performers, not schoolchildren. It would also be good for the young to know their roots and experience the life of their forefathers and mothers, but this seems to me like trying to survive the schooldancing made obligatory by school leadership, ergo they consider an otherwise wonderful event an unnecessary burden. Also, the Filippino-like girl and the Indian boy dancing an Occitan dance is absurd.
@kexember I agree with you except the last sentence. Sounds a lot like racist (even if doesn't mean to) Occitanie has always be a country of accepting others, other religion, other people, etc...
@Fabzil Sounds racist? Why? I stated that it is absurd that they dance an Occitan dance, not that they have to be eliminated or that they are inferior. It would also be absurd if the rest of the class danced an Indian or a Filippino dance. It is Occitans alone who have cultural ties to this exact dance and music. Others can do it for fun but it will still be nonsense. This is not racism, this is sanity and ethnical awareness.
@kexember So you're saying that if I am european and I got to some salsa bar and dance the salsa with a, let's say, polish girl, that would be a nonsense. Man ! Your mind is fucked up!
@Fabzil Salsa is completely different. It is of partial European origin, it is not much more than 100 years old and it's been globalized. That's not a folk dance in the classical sense. I'm saying that if a negro and a Tamil danced a Hungarian or Bulgarian folk dance that'd be nonsense. Like white Europeans dancing an American Indian or Maori tribal dance would be absurd too. And my mind is fucked up?
You probably don't have a rich folk culture that you're strongly attached to (interestingly, Western Europeans generally don't), unlike we, Central-Eastern.Southeastern Europeans. I'm wondering if you can understand my reasoning. When these folk dances developed, where were the blacks and Asians in Europe? Nowhere. Do these songs and dances have anything to do with their own ethnic souls? No. Did white Europeans live in Cuba when salsa developed? Yes. Any further questions?
@kexember That is what i'm saying, your mind is fucked up. If tomorrow we find a alien race and they explain us their dance, from your point of view, it would be a nonsense to dance with them. But from every normal people on Earth, it will be just plain normal, 'cause dance are meant to be dance, end of the story. And I was right you are racist, you've used the word negro.
@Fabzil What a pathetic little idiot you are. I'm racist because I used the word negro?? :D How don't you find yourself helplessly stupid? I'd understand if you accused me of racism if I had written, for example, nigger, but negro is an absolutely correct term, without any load of hatred in it. It doesn't differ in anything from the term "black", it is simply more rarely used and originates from Latin.
I won't lie to you, the performance is shallow and boring, and the costumes suck.. the only good thing are the women though. please tell the jeune demoiselle @ 0:36 that i wanna marry her ;)
Why do they look all mellow and sedate? lol
