  • So many 'probably classic' organ sounds don't seem available as VSTi, or as free samples.

So I decided to share the unique sounds of organs I love to record myself so much. Click my name for FREE ORGAN SAMPLES: LESSER-HEARD HAMMOND PLUS YAMAHA ELECTONE AND ROLAND INSTRUMENTS.

Copy, record, comment and enjoy! Or better still, make your own.

  • nice vid, very clear :) guys i recommend to check out the tutorial very carefully before posting.

  • Hey could you help me out? please !! how come when i open vst connection i only have input and output but it looks like there should me some otheer stuff and thats where i have to add the buses!? is my settings wrong or something? thanks

  • Thankyou so much for this. Ive been trying to do this for years, you make it so claer and easy................cant wait to use this on my new track !!!

  • interesting

  • nice sound

  • thanks man, very helpfull

  • cooooool!

    thanks bro

  • nice video!! thanks!!!

  • does ne 1 know how 2 do this in SX2, because there is no tab for group channels in the vst connections window to create a bus for the channel. this has rattled my brain now 4 some time. also i have sx3 (H2O version) but it just keeps crashing on me annd i cant get it to work. ne help would be appreciated.

  • @marko88910 Go buy Cubase. Problem solved.

  • @supajc what if i don't want to????

  • do i need a special compressor for that?

  • buy it. it's a top program.

  • KastuneMainz : right click on the mixers interface and you choose "Window" from the menu then you will se that you have the option to see the extended view of the mixer! hope it works for ya!

  • Nice!

  • SC a compressor this way is called "Ducking" Like the way a voice is used to lower the music in voice overs. Perhaps you could figure out how to SC a gate and pad bed with some 16th hats for a pulsating pad. Like to see how it's done in Cubase.

  • I do not *need* to figure out how to SC a pad using 16th hats as the key input and it would be exactly the same principle as this video but using a pad instead of a bass line and hats instead of the kick.

If you would like to see it done in cubase then try watching the video a few times because it seems to have passed you by that it HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE IN CUBASE!

  • Before i get into a fit of miscommunications with you. You didn't make the video and that's all that needs to be said.

  • how can i get the insert effects? i dont have the top of the mixer .:(

  • I have the same Problem in Cubase 4 Es

  • possibly your audio card doesn't support this feature?

  • yeah 3 is great and simple

  • this was extremely helpful! Thanks so much

  • Very well and quick explained, thank you :)

  • It doesn't work for me :(

  • do you still use a quadro channel if you want to side chain with more than 1 other channel

for eg kick, bass and hats?

  • What's the compressor used ??

  • Please FFS either look at the other comments or pay closer attention to the video. The question has already been answered several times.

  • man..now i wanna drink beer since youve mentioned it

  • Drink alot beer haha

  • Thank u so much guys real great help x

  • It doesn't work for me.

I'm doing everything exactly like in video, and I still don't have Chain Compression... :(

  • handy video but if youre clueless like me and dont know where to start, is there a video explaining the basics?? might be handy!

  • First of all you need to get the right plug ins (digital effects). The most of them cost a lot. I donno if you can find them for free. Then you can try to google "learn cubase" and you can see a lot of tips there

  • After you record the music on CUBASE LE 4, how do you convert it to play in windows media or in quick time player? Does anyone know?

  • High light your whole song, press shift 'f' so it plays and loops your whole song. Then go 'file' 'export' 'audiomixdown' then you chose if you want it to be saved as a mp3 or wav (320 mp3's are good quality) (wavs are best but are very big files) - Hope this helps

  • THANK YOU. i was wondering so long how to set up a sidechain to key and duck. that was technically called ducking what he did. Keying would be like allowing an oscillator set to a low tone to pass through along with the kick. Or allowing some white noise to come through on each snare hit.

  • cider helps too! ha ha ha!! thanks for sharing :)

  • nice work my friend

  • good vid

  • thank for the tutorial man. very useful

  • VERY USEFULL TUTORIAL oops sorry for shouting lol

  • Do a demo like this for Sonar 7

  • I didnt make the video and I do not own Sonar 7 but please feel free to "do a demo like this for Sonar 7" yourself.

  • lol

  • He Chriszanf, I can't find this plug in by optium called compadre =(

    Can you help?

  • otiumfx [dot] com / compadre.php

  • will i be able to record on cubase with a mixer going to the computer through a cord that goes into the mic input?

  • you will be able to do this with any DAW worth its salt.

  • now i understand, nice and clear, thanks for this

  • is this sidechaining thing a plug in or is it already in cubase?

  • its a plugin by optium called compadre.

There is now sidechaining facilities in cubase 4 with the VST3 protocol

  • thanx bro

  • i hope that was rum n coke!

  • lol

  • n00b question: what's the difference between routing the bass to the group channel or sending the bass to the group channel? cheers.

  • none. its the same thing.

  • cool track anyway! The bassline is cool!

  • Thanks! clear tutorial

  • time to learn sidechain, thanks ;)

  • and where can i download that kompressor lol

  • you can get it from: otiumfx [dot]com/compadre.php

  • man, nice movie lol

  • lmao

    "drink a lot of... beer!"

  • Which software did you use to capture your screen? thanks beforehand

  • If you read the info, you'll see that I didnt produce the video but there are various applications for doing so:

macromedia captivate is one but search on gogle for screen capture video and youll get plenty results.

  • thats a good way but there is a better one , try to get the TC works vst and use the compressor de esser that comes with it with the side chain unit that comes with the vst too and its easier!

  • Please remember that I posted this video about a year ago and I found it about a year before that.

As for your technique, there is always more than one way to skin a cat but please feel free to make a video and post it as a response to this one so others can find it easily.

  • Good simple tut,,,,, ;-)

  • I don't understand what exactly you are doing with the VST connections

  • The way to create sidechaining is that the compadre compressor has 4 inputs: stereo pair for the main signal to compress and another pair for the signal that triggers the compressor.

By using the quad channel, you have set up the routing to facilitate using all 4 channels.

The main signal goes in the front pair & the key trigger goes in the rear.

    Hope that helps.

  • Yeah, I figured it out myself, but thanks ;)

  • good man i also use cubase sx and i have been writing for years good job take care..

  • Awesome video!! Thanks Chris!! :)

  • Why didn't he show the before and after so we can hear the difference?

  • If you look at the video around the 2 minute mark, you will see/hear that he lowers the threashold and can very audibly hear the effect.

  • Oh, I'm sorry. Thanks!

  • No problem at all.

The guy that made the vid did it so that you can replicate it and play around with yourself - many people are already well aware of the effect but just dont know how to implement it - especially as Cubase, prior to 4.1 has no SC feature and even 4.1 will only do so with VST3, which they havent released the SDK for yet so you only have the Cubase stock plugs that can use it.

  • because he forgot....he's drinking beer :D

  • Hey there, thanks, everyone i talked to said oh you cant side chain in cubase, so i just took it as the truth, this vid has helped me thanks!! i can highly recomend the sonalksis sv515 its bloody chunky, this info has just made my track even better

    cheersalot

  • Glad the info from it helped you.

Truthfully, you cant really sidechain in cubase as this is a hack but Steinberg finally got it together to include SC abilities in C4 - now all they have to do is release the SDK so that developers can start coding to the VST3 spec.

  • Thats Ben Stiller

  • because your an immature loser

  • hi, is there a way to make this but without compadre, with the default compressor cubase comes with ??

  • Im not sure if the default compressor with Cubase actually has a sidechain facility.

You can search on KVR for free plugins that can sidechain. There is one called 'Vanilla' for instance, that is free: chunkware [dot] com/vanilla/index.htm

  • what is the name of plug in??

  • Really? Did you seriously not listen to the video or read any of the previous comments? Its mentioned more than a dozen times.

If you still need it to be spelt out for you then please do not look at this video again without an appropriate adult present

  • Hello mate, the plug in is called compadre compressor

  • nice......

  • YAYAYAY thanks man! thanks for posting this, i know now how to create that uber sounding bass, yay thanks, only problem, i now have to purchase that compressor, do you know anywhere cheap?

  • Kjaerhus Audio Channel GAC1SC Is A Side Chain Compressor Works Great.

  • Thanks man, i'll look it up :D, atm i'm using otium fx compadre, its quite good, just when i use too many my computer starts to crash a lot

  • well you posted it and i wouldn't have seen it otherwise so cheers anyway :D

  • I do have ones showing sidechaining in ableton and FL Studio but havent had the time to unwrap them from the self playing executables and convert to AVI. I think they were both from AF as well.

I'll see if I can dig them out tomorrow and get on that.

  • Thanks! Great video! Helped me a LOT!

  • Thank you very much chriszanf

I didn't know that quadro group that allows 2 stereo input in the sidechain comp.

    Now I sound

    Yeahh

    Thx

  • tehankyou verimaç ım from turkey.may name is abdullah

  • Great vid man. You get an official ButFoo, two thumbs up.

  • Great video, Thanks

  • TC electronics compressor has a sidechain feature where you dont need to do all this.

just put the 'sidechain' insert on the kick, put the compressor on your main output inserts and turn on the sidechain button -- voila.

  • Thats all very well stanfrancisco but this video is a demonstration of how to do sidechaining WITHIN cubase SX.

I actually have 2 TC Electronic Triple-C compressors so sidechaining isnt an issue at all for me!!

  • Im sure they sound great chriszanf but i was actually talking about the TC electronics VST plugin (for cubase...)

Its much much easier to set up than this method, as clever as it is, and you can sidechain the send FX which is nearly always necessary for me.

  • Im sure that method is easier and as I said in my info for the vid, this was one I got from Audiofarm that I thought people would appreciate.

Its just another way to skin a cat ;)

Ill have a look at the TC Electronic VST plug method [unless you want to make a video yourself? hint hint ;) ]

  • "drink a lot of beer" Hahahaha...

    Nice video!

  • Ive tried this and you dont seem to be able to put the fx busses through the sidechain.

    Anybody got any ideas?

  • To get around any routing issues in Cubase like this, try using the freeware Senderella. This is a two part plug-in - you insert one where you want to send from and one where you want to send to. Voila.

  • You'll also find that JACK has been ported to Win32 now so you can use that as you would a midi loopback device

  • maybe tried a virtual audio routing application like jack to route the audio back in.

you could also just create a group channel and place the fx on that then route to the sidechain.

  • Found another more detailed explanation, and it seems the Compadre is essential to this since it automatically looks to the surround child buss when KEY IN is enabled.

Search "sidechaining" and find the one about sidechaining in Nuendo--it is the same as SX3 ; at least for this purpose.

  • I don't understand where you tell the compressor what to monitor as the sidechain input. The way you explain it, this is no different than sending both the bass and the kick to the same group. Unless this compressor

  • same here. please explain.

  • Its all down to where you pan the 'key input' [sidechain trigger] in the groups.

  • Also, what you need to know is that with sidechain enabled plugins they use 4 inputs: 1/2 are the main feed and 3/4 are the sidechain monitor channels.

When you set up the quad channel, you are using the pan to direct the main signal to 1/2 and the key trigger to 3/4.

Its all about signal flow: once you understand/visualise that then you'll work it out.

  • Well i know how to sidechain now.

For future reference though... go a bit slower... and show exactly what options to select. Tooke me a while to work some stuff out.

  • There is a pause button you know!!!!

  • Vary good THANK YOU KEEP UM COMING

  • Thanx for making the vid :)

  • I didnt make it but the guy who did [counterpoint from the old AudioFarm torrent site] got in touch with me and so all the thanks go to him.

I just posted it on here so everyone could learn from his knowledge.

  • great vid.

  • Was that a beer or a soft drink?

  • It was a root beer - the best of both worlds and what real men drink! ;-)

  • Does anyone know whats the compressor he used in this tutorial?

  • otiumFX compadre ! ! ! !

  • Nice!

  • excellent video!

  • nice video man. This helped me remember when I came back from a party and wanted to do a tune with side chaining.

  • finally i learned about sidechaining. nice tutorial :-)

  • Great tut. <3

  • great info

  • cubase4 dot com

  • Thanks you guys, perharps you could also hang in the future a sidechaining effect for pads and a gate creation as in psytrance melodies ; ) Nice work!

  • The principle is the same.

Just replace the bass with a pad and the kik with hihats or something similar.

  • Thanks !!!

  • That beer (I'm imagining it's beer as opposed to soda...) sounds cool and refreshing!!! Nice tut.
