  • @HighTreason610 thanks but which version is this send me a link

  • @SeriousHedgeHogCo I've uploaded the version used in lameduke / this video.

Just check out the Video Responses to find it.

  • What is the music

  • @SeriousHedgeHogCo Sorry, I knew I'd forgotten to reply to someone somewhere, the first track that plays is called Goin' Down the Fast Way, it was used in a game called Rise of the Triad.

  • @SeriousHedgeHogCo why it got u horny? :P

  • What's the music in the beginning

  • on my version of lameduke the soldiers yell out hey but dont do anything and can be killed

  • what song is this abd could somone post a link

  • This one actually looks creepier then D3D.

  • Holy shit I REMEMBER THIS!!! LMFAO

  • Rise of the Triad music. =O

  • looks like they used the Rise of the Triad graphics engine too

  • @impactplayer09

it's an older version of Build... not the heavily modified W3D engine from ROTT.

  • The sprites for the RPG and what became to be the Chaingun look way better than the ones in the finished game.

  • Some of this music is from Lunar Apocalypse, the second episode of Duke Nukem 3D.

  • WTF a new version of fastway.mid ? Didn't know that existed !

  • Rise of the Triad Music...very nice.

  • Haha...it sounds like Megaman music.

  • it would have been so awesome if some guys, actually remade the levels and imported the sprites and textures, so you could play this exact thing in the eduke32 engine, if only if only :/

  • Music from Rise of the Triad.

    o.o

  • I like some of the features in this version, for example the ability to have 3 floor elevators/lifts. The big buildings look interesting too. What I find strange though is the fact that the strange chaingun cannon in this version is on the box for my Duke 3d.

  • @Chacanger Yeah, that is also on my V1.3D box, I made an article that mentions this on my site some time ago (Umm... I should update that page) but it's probably worth looking it up on Unseen64.net instead as that is far more interesting and actually has a link to my own article on the page. Unseen64 also have a hell of a lot of screenshots from earlier builds of the game too. Also, some of those elevators scale 6 floors.

  • @Chacanger

My Duke Nukem 3D Manual has the Lameduke slimers as their picture.

  • @Chacanger isn´t a fake teleport that transfer to other area?

  • CORE software ?! as in the same CORE that made lara croft ?!

Gotta love beta's :) the just the style they original got with (the trash cans, enemies, solders that I think Duke was going to save)

It looks like they wanted to bring the original Duke from 1 & 2 to 3D

with the cola cans and the military style (solders from here,DN1 title screen)

With the Epic hero duke instead of the badass manly duke.

  • @janmansde3dede I've often wondered about that Core... Especially given how Lara Croft appeared in Shadow Warrior. I don't reckon Duke was supposed to save the soldiers, seems that they were going to fire Rocket Launchers at Duke. Aye, it does seem more like Duke Nukem II in 3D, it would be interesting to see what the final product would have been like if they had carried on like this.

  • @janmansde3dede This is really insightful, actually.

  • @janmansde3dede I wouldn't doubt that Core may have collaborated with Apogee in this game early in its development.

After all, they helped develop an FPS in 1990 (before Wolf3d, or even Catacomb 3d) by the name of Corporation, that has a similar Cyberpunk theme.

  • Great video, I was wondering though does anyone know the names of the second and last songs or at least what game their from. Those songs are incredible!

  • @thafookillah Those last two songs are the Grabbag theme from Duke Nukem 3D rendered on a Yamaha MU-80 and the final one was from when you complete a chapter in Duke Nukem 2, also using a Yamaha Mu-80.

  • 0:53 Coke cans in a video game.

  • this is lame XD .. the hand texutre is so anoying :D im happy i never played it :D i quess... but since its like new gameplay then its bad :P ... cause i love those shity graphicked pixel awesome games ( pixel art is so awesome tbh )

  • I remember when I played this beta once, when it errored it said it divided by zero, i flipped out.

  • Damn I love the Lunar Reactor music where did it one come from? I don't remember it sounding like that :)

Love this video; nice comparsion between Lameduke and the atomic editions Derlict level.

LameDuke's pretty cool but due to being unfinished it's almost unplayable but naturally it would be as the current Duke Nukem is the finished product

  • it looks fun someone should port this for eduke32 of atleast the bazooka cus its looks so fuckin better than original duke 3d bazooka

  • The music is so Rott first ,then is that space level from episode 2,and now i I understand that really the texures-the right ones are a essential part of a games success, anyway when you use the right size of it, eg if it sucs on the wall -doube the size or alter color

  • darn i wanted to find lameduke and test it, but now that i've heard that music from ROTT, i want to play ROTT again XD

  • @maxlefoulevrai you know you can get the beta at 3drealms webbsite ^^

  • great music and games

  • The RPG looks awesome! And I love the plasma version of the chaingun cannon.

  • Just an early version of Ken's Build engine, while he was still working on the Rasterization of sectors following his conversation with Carmack post-Wolf3D.

Remember, ROTT is a grid-based level design, which is a MUCH different rendering style than idTech 2 or the Build engine.

  • If I remember well, no. This is the RoTT engine (hence the little clue in the video's music). As far as I know, this is as far as they got with the Wolfenstein (RoTT's basis) engine.

If you ask me, though, this had almost no line of code from the original Wolfenstein, :P

    El Cernex

  • No and no, It's just an old version of Build (Version 5 I think)

  • Wait a minute!! Those flying drones look like robots from Descent!!

  • Who knows, 3D Realms was originally working early on Descent. All the other in game models are made from 3d models as well.

  • Yup. Then Interplay and Parallax made one of the best FPS games :D

  • Isn't this Rise of the Triad music?

  • yes it is, "Goin' down the fast way" lee jackson.

  • I didn't use a converter, I render it through a couple of synthesizers, namely Yamaha MU-80 and Roland SoundCanvas for the most part.

On the track here I changed a couple of patches and fiddled with a few other things.

  • Did RPG lack splash damage in duke 3d beta?

Also it's such a shame they've removed plasma gun... it looks cooler than it's chaingun reincarnation.

  • O: epic vid, can you send me the music file of the 1st song? i know its a remix of Fastway.

  • I'll try and find it, and i'll PM you when i have, as i will put a link in the description, a few people have asked for it and this will make my life easier.

If you are interested i recorded a Gravis Ultrasound Rendition as well, which can be located here on youtube.

  • Me too please, this is just sweet. :D

  • Count me in too ;)

  • Haha talking about Lame Eh :P sorry nah It is just very Buggie/Glitchie :(

  • Talk about glitchy, its a shame they removed the original rpg sprite and the plasma gun, also not to mention the awesome building explosions were also removed, but you cant see that in this video :o

  • also is it me, or Crysis ripped lame duke RPG, just look at it, first it's like not expanded, then when you shoot he holds the whole gun expanded, crisis had it similiar way, maybe im crazy but it looks similiar, but you're right original RPG sprite is impressive

  • Looks a lot like Rise of the Triad

  • I like how Duke holds the RPG in this version.

  • yeah kick ass soundtrack but i know it's from rise of the triad but it sound strange it is from the lame duke ? where i can get the music plz ?

    (sry 4 my crappy english)

  • epic music track <3

  • man that is rough, lameduke. i played duke 3D then i see lameduke and its horrible but ive seen worse games like this incomplete FPS game that has dinosaurs in it and its very incomplete.

  • Trespasser?

  • i dont know but it had a t-rex dino in it and some buildings a wharehouse in the forest and it had a boat and it was very incomplete I dont even think anything worked well in it it was a video I saw on here of the game.

  • see, lame duke is like a Rott duke nukem TC

  • No, Lame Duke just uses a few (very few) assets from ROTT. It's an entirely new game engine, and just about everything here was made from scratch. Much of what is seen here did make it into the final version, it was just far more cleaned up. Well, obviously the levels are different here, but thats simply because the guys at 3DR were experimenting and trying to get it perfect.

  • this is more like rise of the triad, glad they fixed it up. rott is good though, but dukes better

  • awesome vide.

Duke Nukem 3D was one of the first 3D games i've ever played and is one of my favourite games of all time, and recently i discovered the beta of it and i want to play it but it dont even start in my windows xp even using Dosbox

am i doing someting wrong, or it just don't work with an emulator?

  • you need to run the setup.exe for lameduke in dosbox, normally the video resoultion should be left alone as well, after that run go.bat

if you want it in 640*480 resolution, you have to add -l1 -v1

to the command line in go.bat or it will crash in that resolution.

  • thanks for the help, i'm going to try that

  • What part of the command line do you add that too becuase the game keeps crashing. Is it before or after the :

    set dos4g=

    d3d /d

  • it should be like this;

    set dos4g=

    d3d /d /q /l1 /v1

If that doesn't work, replace the / with -

you should go strait to the first level, and you have to use W to warp to other levels, i think you use up/down pgup/pgdown to select them.

It will crash the game when you exit to the demo, it will also crash if you look down.

  • Wow man this is great footage, I have not seen this stuff before, really impressive!

Id love to know where that music is from, is it from the game? It rocks! :D

  • What's the last song in this video?

  • It's from duke nukem 2 - i cant remember the name, but iut plays it wen u beat the boss.

  • Thanks ... your hint helped me find it.

    Name is NEVRENDA.IMF

  • they used rise of the triad music at first and aslo shattered glass sound of rott

  • I recently downloaded Lameduke and played it. I had to disable sound and play at 320 x 200 to be able to play it normally (because I don't belive in DOSBox). I still enjoy playing Duke Nukem 3D. I now have a little insight as to what this beta had to offer vs. what was eventually in the final build. We've still have been waiting since 1997 for a true sequel to this classic game. I'm still glad to be able to play Lameduke and see just how much this game has evolved.

  • Interesting video and the 2nd song brings back alot of memories!

  • Interesting perspective in this video. Speaking as a multi-year veteran of Duke Nukem 3D, this was an amazing video. I haven't played Lameduke before, though I think I've downloaded it some time in the past.

  • If you ever get the time to, you really should, its quite interesting, there's this interesting (normally inaccessible) level with reflective pond in it and all kinds of thinks that i couldnt fit into the video.

If you ever get round to running it and run into difficulties, i'll be happy to help, as some LameDuke stuff is a bit tricky to get working.

  • awsome

  • Wow, thank god they changed it. Although those enemies would be fun to fight in the final.

  • is there any boss in this beta

  • not as such, at about 3:20 it looks like a boss level, maybe the flying thing was going to be a boss at some point, who knows, but no, there is no true boss in this beta.

  • hey that gun at 1:35 looks like that resistance chain gun

  • It later became the chaingun, they just changed the barrel to three little barrels, little color alteration here and there and there it was.

  • Woah! I wonder, were did you find that awesome song? I know it's a LameDuke song, but I had never being successful in finding its OST anywere...

    El Cernex

  • I re-recorded it on a high quality module - just used the original MIDI.

  • It's a Rise of the Triad (ROTT) song from the first level in the shareware episode of the game. This song is also available in the full version of ROTT in a later episode. Just download the MIDI and record it into an MP3. Good luck!

  • Oops! That reply that I made below was meant for Cernex. Sorry about that! Later.

  • the sound is like game boy's nintendo

  • Yeah, shame really, that first tune in the video was the LameDuke soundtrack on high quality module, but I had to coimpress the video down (My monthly 3gb limit with my damn ISP is nearly up) - i would have had the original lameduke sounds, but i couldn't capture the audio from it for some reason, the system it is on has an original SB16 in, and I think its on its last legs.

  • There's a map converter out there, i just put the maps into JFDuke3D, i'm now working on using this in an attempt to port LameDuke to Win32 and keep it functional - I doubt i'll acheive this, but i'm giving it a go.
