@mcollins954 It sounds cynical to say I know, but as a graduate student in Communication, time and time again, the American people have proven that they (a vast majority of us) don't want to be told the truth. They have come to expect their politicians to lie to them, and so that has become the name of the game in American politics.
We want drama, we want excitement. That's how you win elections in America. You get votes by telling the truth. But you get more votes by lying.
