  • @ 2:56 NAILED IT! I love that drum fill

  • you look like neil himself!!!!!!!!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If I'm not mistaken, that big tom fill at the end is just a four stroke ruff played six times, moving to each tom in succession. Not that hard really...

I actually lead-hand with the left and accent with the right when doing it, but that doesn't matter.

  • uh.....Shit....I think I just creamed in my pants. HOLY FUCK

  • fuckin sawsome man!!!

  • fucin sawsome man!!!

  • dude my grandma can play that fill

  • Great song, amazing cover!

    Absolute kudos man,

    maybe check mine out sometime?

    cheers. Keep it uppp!

  • Ya thats one of the better renditions I've seen of YYZ online he pretty much nailed it except perhaps the base drum parts after hearing the drum track only version online, its hard to pick-up the base work on this video but its very well done.

  • i quite enjoied that but was it just me or is the snare a little off

(it might just be the recording)

    anyways good work !

  • SICK! GETTING ILL ON THE DRUMS!

  • WOWWWW amazing man!!

  • FLAWLESS!!!

  • FLAWLESS!!!

  • This is amazing man great job. you should mic your kit it would sound great including your neil peart snare.

  • that solo sucked, if you can't control that pinky you will never make it......you better learn to play guitar or something or learn to control that little bastard.... WHAT! are you people crazy that was fkn masterful love all your shit PLEASE DO DRIVEN PLEASE.

  • PINKIES IN!!!

  • i like your set up!

what kind of DW's do you use?

  • in soviet russia DRUMS PLAY YOU!!!!!!!

  • What kind of china is that and how much? sounds awesome!!!

  • Dude, I swear if I weren't a fellow drummer ... I'd think you were Neil Peart ... with the head-rag and all.

  • i can hit a 98% on tom sawyer on drums on expert on rock band. i think tht counts 4 sumthin!

  • @wienyhutjr notttt...really but gj on that

  • Back up drummer for Rush? Fantastic cover man!!

  • nice very nice, what heads do you have on your set?

  • I love your videos! They help me better understand how to play like Neil Peart! I'd like to make my own videos but I don't know where to begin: what editing software to use, best way to capture audio from the drums and how to put it all together! Any time I try to record myself the drums sounds very distorted. Any tips and advice? Thanks for your videos. I'll be watching.

  • i wish i could click hd and watch this video in good quality but my piece of shit windows desktop is being slow as usual. Nice going microsoft.

  • great vid man excellent job im tryin 2 do this song i can do tom sayer down pat same with hot for teacher by van halen but this i just cant get right but rock on!!!!!!!!!!

  • what ride is that? it looks really similar to mine, mine is the 24" piaste 2002. whats urs?

  • dude, this is some serious skill.

  • Dude wtf...wheres ur electronic pads for the cracks and pops im soooo disappointed....LOL just kidding brother, that was mint dude. Very nice skills man Im off to watch some more of your covers.....Peace!

  • is that a paiste 2002 20' ride?

  • Great Drumming man!

  • one word......amazing

  • noice hat

  • hey at 1:50 is that a paradidil that your playing on the ride and snare. and what notes is the kick pad being hit at. oh ang good job thx for the videos there awsome

  • wow wow wow wow wow dude

    that was awesome

    everything was perfect

and the drum flip wow dude your very good

  • i usually am an asshole and pick apart people cause frankly I have no life and im generally a miserable prick taking it out on others. You rocked out

  • Sounds good man, keep it up!

  • Hey BLDrummer 740 (and rays2112)

That "pinky" finger is just in the way. I mean, a pro drummer would not wait before he thought: mabye i shall cut my "pinky" finger off instead of my ride

  • hmm I wonder who your favorite drummer is.

  • @idrumkingdom223 WHO?!

  • Guy, No lie ... you're quite an amazing drummer ... and you play very VERY well!

But, I only noticed one slight flaw. It's nothing big by any means ... but when you're doing that ride groove at 3:00 Your pinky finger pops out a little.

  • yeah I know I've always had that habit...It's a hard one to break!

  • @rays2112 Neil Peart's pinky pops out all the time. So it's a sign of extreme skill. xD

  • @rays2112 I thought that was considered to be good manners in polite society? GREAT vids!

  • @rays2112 i do the same thing bud

  • @rays2112 Ive played the drums for 6 years and i play this song and that also happens to me in this song like in any other. Im not used to play without it, haha.

  • @rays2112 ik what you mean... i do that too, I guess it started when i first started playing

  • @BLdrummer740 hahhahahahahahahaha wow

  • @BLdrummer740 I agree with the second aspect that you noticed. Its very important to have all your fingers controlling the stick.. i used to do this about 15 yrs ago till my drum teacher said " NO NO NO! "

the best way to break the habit is to drum with a closed hand on the stick relying on the wrist to generate the rebound not the drumhead or symbol.. as you get better at playing with a closed hand you will notice when you play normally your pinky doesn't stick out! try it ! it may take a bit

  • @BLdrummer740 Why would that be a flaw? It doesnt affect his performance! WTH?

  • @fajadody

True, it doesn't do anything to his performance but it's a technique thing.

    He does rock ass, though.

  • @fajadody That's what I'm sayin!

  • @fajadody its a technique thing, ultimately you will be better with your pinky tucked in. just like learning your rudiments, you can survive and be great without them, but if you learn them in the long run you will be better

  • Cool drumming!)

  • you have the same sticks as I xD

    great Kid!!

  • First thing when I saw your kit is "Wow, this guy has influenced his kit a LOT like Peart's! Especially with the headband and everything! =P" Nice kit though! What finish is it?

  • Awesome work!

  • Loving the 2002 ride.

i love the 2002 series cant affrord my set of them yet.

  • the cymbal at the end gave it away that you pasted the last part of the video in you can see that the cymbal randomly changes what way the word was facing at around 4 50

  • Yep, I had it up to there...(I mention this in the description)

  • @DanRX24 But you have to admit, that was a really good transition into it, because I didn't notice it at all until I read your comment

    thanks alot

  • Thanks man! That was an awesome ride...It's a 22" 2002 Power Ride (I don't have it anymore) You can find one used on eBay for about $175 - $200

  • Cheers thanks alot

  • I thought there ghost notes aren't there, but now I realized that they actually are! Ray Harber is the guy! No doubt, best Neil's cover in youtube.

  • ya really... isnt that crazy... check out some of his vids.. kicksville etc...

  • good cover and all. and not to rat on neal.. but i can play this cover with no practice.. and i cant even begin to play some of the stuff tony royster jr plays.. just throwing it out there.. but still a solid cover man

  • With no practice huh? I'm very proud of ya. I cant begin to play some of the stuff that Buddy Rich plays...so I don't (I cant believe your comparing Neil Peart to Tony Royser Jr. LOL)

  • how much did your kit with cymbals cost?

  • could you put up a tutorial for the bell pattern possibly?

  • yah that would be great.

  • I'll post a tutorial

  • YOU ARE AMAZING!

  • dude ray keep it up man! 1 thing though do you mute your snare? cause it seemed kinda ringy. its a great snare no doubt but for this song it should be muted a bit. not much though.

  • 10 stars

  • Wow thanks! So did you give me two 5's? ;)

  • At 4.10, the only time that u went out of time xD

  • Hmm...I don't hear that. That phrasing of that fill is over the bar line, and it obviously doesnt end on "1"

  • But, thanks for the comment!

  • whoa that is sooo coool you actually responded back, dude i love your music drumalongs!! i like to use them as a reference when i need help. you and astrotama, and pauliewanna are my heroes

  • Thanks man!

  • You should cover "Time Stands Still"

  • I will, I love that song.

  • The Bassdrumplaying is not 100% exact.. but nice cover! Do you use 13 or 14" Paragon Hihats ?

  • Yeah, I know the bass drum isn't 100% accurate. 13" Paragons.

    Thanks!

  • awesome dude! you are a great drummer! 5 stars!

  • Amazing performance! Impressive playing.

  • Thanks very much!

  • That was amazing! Awesome job Ray!

  • i see you have more than just drum tricks up your sleeve, ray. gotta love the evasive thirty seconds trick! nice post

  • Thanks man! Yeah that trick has worked so far!

  • NIce stick toss at 3:25

  • ok i will. Thanks for the info.

  • are those the paragon series from sabian?

  • Most of them

  • Love the new kit, I'm a big fan of natural finishes.

  • great job like usual. You still using the NP Edge DW snare? How do you like it I would assume it is incredible, I am thinking about picking one up. Any recommendations?

  • I would check out the new "snakes & arrows" snare (or any DW V.L.T. snare) I heard it after I got the the edge model, and I like the S&A one better...They're both amazing snare drums though...

  • If anyone is interested, I'll be selling my Paragon crashes on eBay soon...The 16, 18, and 20. Low starting price and Buy It Now.

  • Funny you ask! Yes, the cymbal to my far left is a 20" Paragon. It sounds awesome, very powerful and really great for cymbal rolls/swells AND I'm putting it up for sale on eBay probably tonight for really cheap. I'm selling it because I'm switching to Paiste Signatures...Paragons are awesome cymbals, but I've personally come to prefer the Paistes ( as far as the crashes go ) My ebay username is ray2112 (not rays2112)

  • Very nice Ray!

  • Thanks!

  • I will do that one I think I've listened to it enough to play it now...we'll see!

  • I've been waiting for you to cover this one and you didn't disappoint. This was amazing!

  • Oh, thank you!

  • If you ever still have a video pulled even though the 30 second thing, here's another thing to try:

A friend of mine also does drum vids. And to stop getting pulled, he pitch shifts the songs by a very small degree. Like .1 or .2 degrees.

Sometimes he even uses an EQ over the original song and slightly makes a few alterations at a few frequencies. the song still sounds the same but the bots don't recognize them anymore :D

Just making sure you keep posting great vids!

    good one :)

  • Thanks man that's a great idea!

  • i never knew what he meant by that. i knew it was something somewhere, he wouldnt write it in the liner unless he really did it. cool. you would be good at "stump the trunk" . You DO know alot.

  • oh and nice stick throw...make a cd, i will buy it.

  • Thanks Neli that's very sweet. I wish I could make some money from this somehow!

  • You are very creative and accurate I am sure people will buy a tutorial. Go for it. Good overhead shots, no fluff, great examples, great editing, i cant even tell you are doing them in two or more takes. really. the 30 sec thing is genius too. I am not sure about the four counts fill. are those perididdles> you will have to explain that in one of your next vids.

  • flawless! is that unintentional you didnt hit the china at 3:06 and again at 3:20? flawless. I loved it. thanks for posting it. i personally would like to hear a thicker bass though. new ride sounds dead on.

loved it will give it 5 stars and favorite it.

  • Yeah, I didn't hit the China because there is no China cymbal at those spots. j/k In the studio, it was a sound effect adding in using a piece of plywood. Here's a quote from Neil Peart: (In reference to the sound effect in YYZ) "Well you wear gloves so as not to get splinters, you take a piece of 1/4" plywood, and smack it down HARD on the top of a wooden stool. Very demanding, technically - took years of practice." - Neil Peart

  • is he for real? how can the wood he describes make a sound that resonates and sounds like a whip cracking? this is one for mythbusters..very interesting...

  • does that work when you put the 30 seconds at beggining if so thats brilliant

  • Awesome, man. I can never make myself sit down and really learn all the fills in this song, but you do 'em nearly perfectly.

  • perfect.... as always. YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey do you really think doing that 30sec thing will really work

  • I was told by one of my friends on here that it was working for him, so I tried it and it's worked so far!
