  • The Wellcome Trust is not a drug company, it's a charity that finds fundamental scientific research.

  • I don't like the title of this video. I expected a discussion of ethics, and instead I got an extremely technical lecture on the workings of the brain.

  • excellent catch oh great clearing house M.C.!

  • As a devout naturalist I have no theoretical objections to what Pat is saying. However, its a little suspect to have a video funded by a drug company were the pick out phrase is by changing oxytocin we can change sociability. Hmmm, *Ethical Sociability Disorder* coming to a DSM (and a prison) near you soon. Just as soon as Wellcome synthesise a control for oxytocin levels in fact.

  • I think the actual talks are sponsored by the charity the "Wellcome Trust," as opposed to the GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceutical company. Furthermore, the majority of the talks on the website were I found this were with cosmologists and physicists.

Needless to say, unless they plan on taking over the galaxy (in addition to our minds) I don't think we really have much to worry about. :-)

ODD, Antisocial Personality Disorder, and similar dysfunctions of social functioning have been in the DSM, correctional institutions, and prisons for many years.

To what should we attribute the Great Psychiatric Leap Forward that eliminated "treatments" such as chains, pre-frontal lobotomies, and ECT?

I suspect that you know the answer, though personality disorders are notoriously difficult to impact.
