@mravantgarde123 Thanks for the info. The book was a very enjoyable read. The Marx Brothers very talented entertainers who were way ahead of their time; especially Harpo.
by the way, i read harpo's autobiography and-top to bottom- the order is Groucho, Harpo, Gummo, and Lou Levy. that's what i read in harpo's book. he has this picture and he lists it.
If you have a close look at the "Contract scene" in Night at the Opera you can see that special glint in both Groucho's and Chico's eyes as they are doing that scene.
"Sanity Clause haha you can't fool me, there is no Sanity Clause"
I think that making a movie about the Marx Brothers would be virtually impossible.
You could probably find the people to play the parts but the delivery of the lines would be the hardest to convey ( except for Harpo of course ) Many times Groucho and Chico would adlib lines and they are the hardest to reproduce. For those of us who are fans that certain glint in the eye that happens between them when they do adlib cannot be acted.
Being a Marx Brothers fans for a looooong time. I always wished they made more movies.
However, I would just like to say that this song is brilliant, thank you for taking the time and effort in creating this tribute.
As a side note, My new Lady ( 46 yrs ) had never seen the Marx Brothers before meeting me, you can imagine the laughter and amazement she goes through each time we watch one of their movies. You guessed it she LOVES Harpo.
Thanks, I'm glad you like the song. I always enjoy watching their movies. I saw an interview Harpo's son gave in which he stated he would like to make a movie about his father. There have been TV movies about The Three Stooges, Martin and Lewis and Abbott and Costello. The Marx Brothers are comedic icons. I'm surprised there's not one about them.
The Marx Brothers childhood home in New York is in danger of demolition.
Please go to the MarxBrothersPlace You Tube channel to see a video where "Harpo" tells you how you can help by signing two petitions and sending an email cut and paste letter to the powers that be.
Great guitar, and your vocals sound really polished and professional. An excellent original, Patt! The Marx Brothers must have really touched you, and I'm sure Harpo would be honoured.
I agree, Harpo Speaks is my all-time favourite book, I think everyone should read it, it is so inspiring. I think people can become better people by reading that book <3
Is there anywhere the lyrics to this song could be read?
Time out. Chico's autobiography? Does such a book exist? I always thought that Harpo had his one book and Groucho wrote a few, but I never heard of Chico.
This seriously gave me goosebumps. I ordered "Harpo Speaks" from a bookstore last week and now I cant wait for it to come! I think its wonderful that you made this tribute to Harpo. He deserves it. <3
Nice job all around, Paul. Having read Harpo's, Groucho's and Chico's autobiographies, I have long been convinced that Harpo was the happiest, most normal, most well-adjusted of them all! Cheers.

In the 70's there was a great show on Broadway called, "Minnie's Boys," starring Shelley Winters as Minnie Marx. The actors who played the brothers were great, but my least favorite was the one who played Harpo. He was too sweet, without the mishchievous look, which was the secret to Harpo's appeal. He looked like an angel, but the audience could see that he was really a little devil.
Jenifer and I FINALLY watched the video, and we were blown away. The song still reminds me of Hendrix in "The Wind Cries Mary." Who's doing backup? Is that you mixing in all the different parts?
Thanks. And yes, I sing lead and background vocals. However, the mixing was done by my good friend, Chris Orlando. Chris also plays bass and arpeggio guitar on the song....oh, and BELL too.
Great Song!!From one Marx Brothers fan to another. You should also read "The Marx Brothers" by Kyle Crichton (1951)Recalls early times in Vaudeville before the films.
Inspirational or what!!!All the ups and downs of struggling musicians.Tell me about it!!!
Thanks Neil. I'll check it out. Talk about musicians, I often think of the Marx Brothers as the Beatles of Comedy. (Or you can say vice versa). Both groups were way ahead of the pack.
That's right.Marx brothers and Beatles were way ahead of their time in their fields. They practiced their art from an early age and didn't give up, took many years of hard graft and disappointments and knockbacks before they became "overnight" successes.
Harpos family will love this. Those films still make me laugh they were real tallented actors, commedians .musicians from an era we will never experience again
Glad you enjoyed it. I still laugh whenever I watch their films. I got the idea for the song after reading "Harpo Speaks". An inspirational read for anyone.
I so enjoyed that Harpo montage but more than anything the tune really is great. I am still humming it and feel put at ease by it. Thank you for creating something I can happily return to.

Thanks for your interest. I wrote the song after reading "Harpo Speaks". After years of procrastination, I finally recorded Harpo over a year ago and put the video together a little over a week ago. When you see Harpo 'hammer' his harp at the end, the sound you hear was actually a recording mistake that I decided to keep. My guitar had hit the microphone stand. I liked the way it sounded. Then, a year later, when I saw Harpo hit his harp, I knew right where to put the scene.
I like at the end, when it looks like Harpo is playing the Harp to the guitar music. I wonder if the person who wrote the song wrote it that way on purpose or if it was a coincidence. Does anyone know?
This is possibly the BEST video ever!!! My favorite part is when he's singing "his voice was the one thing that never was allowed," and Harpo is spraying his voice and trying to sing.

Part 3
AND FRENCHIE APPLAUDED. YOU KNOW HE STARTED OFF THE CROWD.
BUT YOUR VOICE WAS THE ONE THING THAT NEVER WAS ALLOWED.
AND THOUGH YOU SEEMED THE FOOL YOU REALLY WERE QUITE SHARP
AND YOU PLAYED LIKE AN ANGEL, UPON YOUR GOLDEN HARP.
corlando52 5 years ago
Part 2
ONCE THERE WAS A TAILOR, THOUGH HE REALLY WAS A CHEF.
HE USED TO BE A "SALE-ER" UNTIL YOU PACKED YOUR BAGS AND LEFT.
'CAUSE YOU KNEW YOUR PLACE WAS UPON THE STAGE, IN FRONT OF ALL THOSE LIGHTS.
YOU KNOW YOU'D NEVER BE HAPPY UNTIL YOU STARTED WORKING NIGHTS.

Here are the lyrics: PART 1
YOU HAD THEM ROLLING IN THE AISLES EVERY NIGHT WITHOUT FAIL.
WHO'D EVER THINK THIS WOULD RESULT FROM THE THROAT OF A NIGHTINGALE.
YOUR BROTHERS, OH YEAH, ONE A GROUCH, THE OTHER ONE A CHICK.
THE ONE WHO HAD LEFT YOU, WAS ON A DIFFERENT TRIP.
corlando52 5 years ago
Part 4
AND MINNIE YOUR WOMAN, YOU KNOW SHE ALWAYS KEPT THE FAITH.
THAT ONE DAY SOON, SHE KNEW, YOU'D FILL YOUR INSIDE STRAIGHT.
AND THOUGH YOU SEEMED THE FOOL YOU REALLY WERE QUITE SHARP.
AND YOU PLAYED LIKE AN ANGEL, UPON YOUR GOLDEN HARP.
corlando52 5 years ago
Part 5 (final)
BUT THEN YOU HAD TO LEAVE BEFORE THE END OF THE SHOW.
AND I GUESS THERE'S ONE THING I THOUGHT THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.
IN THESE TIMES OF GRIEF AND DIS-BELIEF, WHEN THERE'S NO PLACE ELSE TO GO.
YOU MADE ME LAUGH, WHEN I SHOULD HAVE CRIED.
I'D LIKE TO THANK YOU, HARPO.
