The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible and is a record of God's dealings with His chosen people in the New World. The main purpose of the Book of Mormon is "to the convincing of Jew and Gentile that JESUS is the CHRIST, the ETERNAL GOD, manifesting himself unto all nations." (Book of Mormon Title Page) It was written by ancient American prophets for our day (Mormon 8:35) and is an American testament of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I testify that the Book of Mormon is of divine origin and all mankind shall be judged by the testimony it gives. Its coming forth was in fact foretold in the Bible in Isaiah 29:11-12; by foretelling the conversation between Martin Harris & Professor Charles Anthon documented in [THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE] Joseph Smith History 1:63-65.
This man Dr. Peterson speaks the truth and well versed in the bible. He is a scholar and a gentleman, and his video set here should be viewed.
It is clear these guys commenting didn't even bother to watch, but just made blatent attempts to malign Dr. Peterson. His research standards are unmatched.
when smith died a jupiter talisman was found in his posession, he used it to obtain finalcial gains, control over people, and to manipulate anyone he thought he need to,, research it for urself...
I personally contacted the Museum of Natural History, they e-mailed me a 2 page document. They also forwarded me to National Geographic. I was surprised after reading it. It took apart everything in the Book of Mormon. They even gave me a list of Professors who studied Meso America and magazine numbers to read about what actually happened instead of BOM claims. Call or e-mail them!!! The end of the letter even stated that Mormon Sensational claims are just that, SENSATIONAL AND WRONG.
I realize that all churches are control systems for the masses, I do wonder why it is that the people who follow these faiths do not contextulize and or compare what thier faith has in commen with other faiths in both symbology and moral teaching. For instance what is up with the masionic ritual when mormans get married? I have met many mormans and they are soooo nice, I would think that this ceremony would scare these nice people.
well, you got the blacks that could not recieve the preisthood. but now they can. ah polygamy was ok, but then utah needed to gain statehood, so they stop the practice. joe smith stated that no one has kept a whole church together, not even Jesus himself. therefore he is putting himself above Jesus
Whoops... there is a little misunderstanding here. The Book of Mormom is a history of the people that lived here in the America's from about 600BC to 400AD. So there is nothing in the book about Utah, or blacks and the priesthood. The Book of Mormon is like the Bible. It testifies about Jesus Christ.
Everything else you are speaking about has nothing to do with the Book of Mormon.
But to run these three sentences together changes the meaning of them and makes inferences that are not true.
It is true that prior to June of 78, blacks did not hold the priesthood.
After June 78.. they could. The Prophet received a revelation saying that all worthy members of the church could now hold the priesthood. That is truth.
The bible says that All men are created equal yet blacks were denied the priesthood, that there would say that is man's heart, not Gods and that Man made it up.
If you read the Bible.. you will see that those of the house of Levi where the only ones to have the Aaronic Priesthood. The other "11 tribes" of Israel were not. The law of Moses was only given to the Jews.. not the Gentiles. Yet are not the Gentiles men too? With holding privileges of priesthood has nothing to do with equality.
so it has to do with the color of ones skin. And so recieving the priesthood is part of the mormon plan of salvation. IF that is the case, then Christ died on the cross for nothing.
It had to do with linage.. not the color of the skin. You focus on the skin color.. the Lord doesn't.
There is having the priesthood in this life. And there is having it in the next life. Some are given it in this life.. others it is given in the next life. All need it for exhaltation and Eternal Life. The Atonement is crutial for all people to have the opportunity to return to our Father in Heaven. With out Jesus Christ and his antonement and sacrifice.. all would have been lost.
No.. I am not saying that. There have been many people of color that did have the priesthood.. there were others that did not. In 1978.. there was a revelation received that said that restriction had been removed. Now all can obtain it as long as they are worthy.
While then there's a contridiction there. now your saying many people of color had the priesthood. IF they were Negro, they aren't suppose to hold the priesthood. Which was it?
Matt. 3: 9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

#1, Joseph Smith got the notion at the age of between 12 and 14. At least this is the earliest known time of the notion, because this is when he had is so-called "First Vision" learning of Israelites in ancient Americas from the angel and Jesus, etc.. So Joseph Smith had from the age of 14ish in 1820 until 1830 when the BofM was finished. And he had PLENTY of outside inspiration too. Ethan Smith, and Solomon Spaulding wrote very similar books yeasr prior to the release of the Book of Mormon.

A good answer to this common question has been given by Mike Ash at mormonfortress DOT com/wheel1.html. Please read that article. Also see "The Wheel in Ancient America" by Paul R. Cheesman, available at SHIELDS,
Very little is said about this device, with no indication that it was wheeled. It could have referred to other devices, such as a cloth framework that was dragged, known in Mayan lore, as discussed by Mike Ash.
The idea that the wheel was completely unknown in the Americas is also not quite correct. Wheeled toys have been found in Mesoamerica, and an ancient potter's wheel, long assumed unknown in the America, has been found in Peru. Other tentative examples are offered in the article by Paul Cheesman above.
A drawing of one wheeled Mesoamerican toy and a photo of another are shown on page 59 of John L. Sorenson's book, Images of Ancient America: Visualizing Book of Mormon Life (Provo, Utah: Research Press (1998)).
But if Nephi and others knew of wheels, how did that technology die out? The loss of technology occurs frequently in history.
If the early Nephites did not have a need for wheels in the lifestyle they lived, that technology could easily have fallen into disuse. There are many examples of this kind of thing occurring.
The failure to find something clearly identifiable as a "chariot" does not mean they did not exist.
From the Bible, we know that numerous chariots were used in Old Testament times, yet Sorenson notes that "no fragment of a chariot has ever been uncovered in the Holy Land" (ibid., p. 59).
Sorenson also notes that the Hebrew roots that are translated as "chariot" in English have dictionary meanings that include "wagon or chariot" as well as "litter, portable couch" or human-borne "sedan" chair (ibid.).
In this sense, the term chariot could well refer to the widely used litters in Mesoamerican, wherein elite people would be carried in a plush chair by human servants.
This doesn't make sense as they will have known of such technology from The Old world .
ALma 20:6 6 Now when Lamoni had heard this he caused that his servants should make ready his HORSES and his CHARIOTS.
2 Ne. 12: 7
7 Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their atreasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots.
MormonD You didn't address my Horses point that the precolumbian horse remains found is actually pre book of mormon also,so yes you are misleading usand No Horses existed in Book Of Mormon supposed Nephite/Lamanite Civilisations.
Neither have we detected these civilisations as ever existed either.
There have been horse bones that have been radio carbon dated to about the time of Christ. The Book of Mormon was written between 600 B.C. and 400 A.D. They have also found some near the Lol Tun caves in Mexico.
7 Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their atreasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots."
Do you even know what this passage of scripture is talking about? Seems to me you found this in some anti-mormon literature that has taken it out of context. If you actually read the entire chapter, you would know that its not talking about the Nephites, its a passage from Isaiah (Old Testament).
The first verse reads, "The word that Isaiah, the son of Amoz, saw concering Judah and Jerusalem:". It didn't say concerning Mexico or Central America. Please stop taking things out of context to make your point. I ask you to please do your due diligence.
Some more food for thought, since we know that wheels were a part of the ancient civilization; who's to say that they didn't have chariots as we picture them. Moreover, you must agree that the word chariot may not mean what we imagine a chariot to look like. The word for chariot in Hebrew is very similiar to the arabic word for boat, they simply mean in both cases, something thats ridden.
Also "Chariots were usually made out of a light wood such as cedar that was sturdy and easy to work." - A Brief History of Chariot Warfare and Its Effects on the Catastrophe of ca 1200 B.C. If this is what the Nephites and Lamanites made "chariots" out of, wouldn't you agree that over 2000+ years that the wood would be biodegraded by now?
This Video has been taken off?I couldn't watch it unfortunately.
This whole thing with Chariots. What is the definitive take on them .You have given a few possibilities, Hand carried chairs, dragged cloth framework chariots(dragged by what?), wheeled chariots.
What is in the cultural record as we know it.And could the LDS prophet enquire of God at all as we are lacking Wisdom.
Good point.I found it on lds dot org , word search in the scriptures . There are other references to Chariots. Why is whole sections of ISAIAH in there and almost word for word ?
If we actually had the Golden Plates and verified the translations and everything, you still would find a reason to not believe and there would be a whole group of people who would refute it and you would buy into it.
The whole point of life is to ignore the adversary and search for truth, trust in God and feel the Holy Ghost.
If you don't trust those feelings, what can you trust and how can you know.
Either you put your faith and pray and trust it, or you dont and what?
