Eric Clapton gets way down to earth and in touch When I first heard this song I closed my eyes and see my whole life again as it was be for I found inter peace Thank you Eric
If Clapton's artistry in this piece doesn't move you to tears then the organ and drum work sure should. Just listen to how it all melts together at 1:30 and again at 3:00. I can't stop listening to this one.
This version is the best I've found. Even if the guitar work doesn't bring you to your knees then the rest of the band sure should (Billy Preston and Steve Gadd are unbelievable). This is true artistry.
This artist is just amazing. What a feel to a blues groove that you will and could never forget. I have been playing for 30 years, and there are certain songs that always hit home with you, deep in your soul. This is definitely one of them.
Even the rocks in the ground are crying when Eric plays this one! And lets not forget steve Gadd and nathan East who play ww/ every ounce of their being, night in, night out!
The emotion he plays this song with is very moving. It takes me back in a second to a time of my life that will always hurt, but I survived it. Thanks Eric, I love ya, you're the best!
This song is so awesome but sometimes it makes me cry thinking about my mom. But mom you taught me to love music and as long as I have music in my heart, you'll be there too.
It's bittersweet, reminds us of a sad, sad time but that we survived it, Clapton captures that feeling with the way he plays; his guitar weeps; I've never seen anyone like him.
People say Clapton is not a great technical player...but his solos are like epic movies. It slowly builds up and than at 7:57 he just crushes it right where it needed to be crushed. You can't teach that in a class or read it off of sheet music.
@specialagentslowhand Right! If you limit "technique" just to play fast and as many notes in a bar as possible, then Clapton is not a great technical player. But what is a bending style or a vibrato, that everybody recognizes at once? The "perfect" tone? That is a kind of technique too, and then, a lot of so-called technical players don't have too much technique at all...
I had listened to this song, from "Clapton's Chronicles" many times....but REALLY heard the words 3 days after my dad died. For the rest of that ride home that night...I too, felt like I was "drowning in a river of tears". Thanks for this beautiful song.
Today I happened to listen to Mr.Clapton's River of Tears... It wasn't the first time I had listened to this touching song, but life is sometimes surprising...life is truth.... you change and things change...your friends disappear and you experience sadness and loneliness - I found myself crying in the car near the Lake of Garda.... Eric is a pure soul, he can convey in his songs and in his solos a kind of universal and bright truth. Thanks for all your comments and for posting.
Ultimate Clapton. Doesn't get any better than this.
A true genius that shaped music for decades. He's not a musician, not a performer, he can only be described as an artist. Talent like his doesn't come often, we were so lucky to have it in our generation.
@oldsurfbum -- indeed yes! Clapton is not a rock star, he is THE most real/authentic/genuine ARTIST..like picasso...Friends, check out he and JJ Cale doing 'Danger", I got myself immersed myself in beautiful guitaring..well this is just one pearl in his string of songs...wondering which is the best forum for Clapton fans.
Es DIOS, es DIOS, nada mas que decir, que vuelva a la Argentina porfavor para que pueda verlo una ves nada mas, yo era muy chico en el 2001, recien ahora tengo 18 lpm!
I agree with sentinelbrit in all respects. I have never felt such heart and soul put into a song. I'm sure everyone has felt rejection from someone we think we love at some point in our life.
This song has it all. Powerful lyrics which Clapton sings with amazing feeling, great haunting melody, amazing guitar work throughout, and the band is brilliant. Just a fantastic song that really moves me. I saw him in Boston a few years ago with Robert Cray. He was brilliant - on top of his game.
That solo was very sick... I was walking around my house listening to the song thinking typical clapton and then he starts ripping at it was like what the fuck is going on over there. Had to come sit down and watch. Hats off to clapton. He just might be a god.
yes, u're right, if u watch closely u might see that solo is FELT, every note has a different feeling, that's what clapton has, FEELING, i was thinking the same, "wtf is going on there!"
