I'm a cool guy from the 80's, from head to toe, never thought i would grow old, thought the party & fun will last forever, well i was wrong, still look damn good though but one thing is for sure, they were and will be the best )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
There are so many vibrant and winsom memories awakend by hearing this song. The 80's were a magical moment in time and like all good times, they ended, but...
like all fine and real things, they will live on according to their own inherent qualitys.
In 100 years the music will still move peple. Peace
Good point, bigrig, most pop/rock stuff now has a negative feel to it and it's not very memorable, it's like kids just want something to dance - and drink - to. Making your own fun on the dancefloor seems more important, doesn't matter what it is really, once the music actually had to be a good melody not just a beat...
@Spheal4 Yeah just leave out Thatcher, the drug usage/wars, the crack deal-o-mania, Reagan, and AIDS! LOL But I loved it all too so I see what you mean, honest! LOL
@lumabi25 They didn't seem very simple back then. For example, most people of my generation expected WW3 to eventually happen and wipe out the human race.
@Spheal4 yes indeed , today music is only remixing and sampling old music. people are to lazy to make new music. i live the 60'70'80'oo man i love the music. i wish young kids would like this music
@Spheal4 yes yes yes!! what a decade so much inspirational artists and new music technology. No money making constructed Simon Cowell bands that all do the same, look the same and sound the same....diversity and big hair 80s rock
Twenty years had gone by without listening to this untill I heard it on the radio a few months ago at 4 in the morning but still could'nt remember the title. Went on to youtube and found this! Brings me back twenty odd years. One of the best songs ever written with "Drive" from The Cars in my opinion.
Yeah he seems to battle the subject of covetousness and envy a lot in his songs. So much food for thought. so much respect for this man. Great songs deceptively complex. In some ways I think it's criminal he's not more rated considering how overrated some of his contemporaries are/were. Yet it shouldn't matter, plenty of people still appreciate him. It doesn't stop him touring and he's not clinging to fame for dear life by going on 'I'm a celebrity..' or some other Reality TV tragedy...
I challenge any current pop/rock act to write a piece of music, like the famous horn/synth solo here - it's not going to happen. Composing melodies is not what it used to be, it's all downbeat monotonous/repetitive tones now.
I notice alot of young people are responding on this video, about how crappy music is now a days, I can't believe it's gotten this bad with the younger generation. I'm glad I grew up in the 80's I wouldn't trade it for the world. Mostly every theater was a drive in back then, it was a great time to be a kid. I'm just glad I don't have to be a kid now days, Thank God !
What a very small world! I discovered this song while stationed in Germany from '84-'89!!! Wish I'd have gone to see his concert! Thanks to YouTube for bringing this ever lost in memory song back to me and having a chance to download it and listen to something I had forgotten! Great times, the 80's!!!!
I love how the ultra-popness of this track is underpinned with some great rock guitar riffs. Really good songwriting. Simple premise: envy and covetuousness not good. Apart from anything else we never know the full story of life on the 'other side'. I need to get me some Nik tunes.
I loe this song it brings back those 80's "pretty In Pink" is where this is from . I remember because I had the cassette form the movie. Now, I dedicate this to my ex-husband the words fit of what I wanted to say to him. ( Proudly divorced 10 years). Thank you for the music and video !!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally a version where you can understand the lyrics in the end (5:58 till the end). In the normal version this part fades out early and it's also missing in the official lyrics.
I got it bad you don't know how bad I got it. You got it easy you don't know when you've got it good. It's getting harder just keeping life and soul together I'm sick of fighting even though I laiow I should. The cold is biting through each and ev'ry nerve and fibre My broken spirit is frozen to the core. I don't want to be here no more. Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes even if it was for just one da:
The grass in always greener over there. Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care. You must be joking you don't know a thing about it. You've got no problems I'd stay right there if I were you. I got it harder you couldn't dream how hard I got it Stay out of my shoes if you know what's good for you. The heat is stifling bun@ing me up from the inside. The sweat is coming through each and ev'ry pore.
To me it's about how life can be hard and then we sometimes think other people have it better, easier etc.. does the saying 'the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill' ring any bell to you? - sometimes you'd wished you weren't here when it's hard - a comforting song, cause it's hard for everybody sometimes even if we think it ain't, you just can't live other peoples life, you have to deal with your own.. PEACE bro .-)
I love being a product of the 80's. I wear it like a badge...yet still grounded in modern times. My teenage daughter loves 80's music....but she considers it oldies. How did that happen..LOL
The 80's were truly excellent. The possibilities life offered seemed limitless. It truly was a wonderful time to have been alive, and able to enjoy all that was happening.
I have been looking for this song for the last 25 years. All I could remember was a few of the lyrics( and even those were wrong) and the guy phasing out in front of the satellite dish.....this is a classic !
It's a shame that you're so small minded that you seem to think you are only permitted to enjoy one type of music based upon unfounded sweeping generalizations.
You didn't experience the 80s in the first place if you were born in 1989, either.
Wouldn't it be good to be in the 80's again, I got it bad, you don't know how bad I got it, it's getting harder, I'm sick of fighting... Don't wanna be here no more, don't wanna be here no more, don't wanna don't wanna don't wanna be here no more.
i know should of been number one ,but in them days there so many brill artists about it was so much to compete with but i would say this should ofv been a num 1 worldwide fukin brill song just makes u realise how crap 2days music is ,shell brum xx
too right....music is so shite nowadays; it's not even funny anymore. This tune is an absolute gem but then again we were spoilt with good music in the 80s.....
we was spoilt very ..but today were robbed its all taken over by these stupid un talented rappers n over powering dance tunes ,i couldnt tell u wat in the charts i have no idea and i couldnt careless ,im on utube mostdays watchin 80svids lookin 4 12inches like this gem ...big up the 80s shell brum xxx
yeah, me too; love youtube for that!!!!....I've got all this stuff still on vinyl from when it actually came out back in the days; need to get a turntable again at some point. I've always bought records and stuff but lately I'm not buying anymore coz what's the point spending money on the rubbish that's out nowadays. 80s rule!!!!!
im bit shockedi thought morepeople would of viewed this song .
oneof my fav 80s extended versions/12inch
lyrics are great love it also its great sounding very loud x

I was born in '67 so I remember the 70's and 80's well.
IMO, back than he guys still had skill and didn't need to rely on CG,computers, etc to sell their stuff.
Heck still got all my LP's and won't trade them for anything.
Personally, like music from the 50's up to the late-80's, some good music after that but mostly in the alternative/healing scene.
Said that the 80's seem to get revived recently.

The 80's were truly excellent. The possibilities life offered seemed limitless. It truly was a wonderful time to have been alive, and able to enjoy all that was happening.

I have been looking for this song for the last 25 years. All I could remember was a few of the lyrics( and even those were wrong) and the guy phasing out in front of the satellite dish.....this is a classic !

it's a shame that most popular songs talk about nonsense i.e sex money hoes guns...
good thing there's a youtube so i can experience the 80's again (i was born in the 80's [89that is.])

Don't wanna be here no more, don't wanna be here no more, don't wanna don't wanna don't wanna be here no more.

it's nice to see the croma key effect on this video, I wonder how it was cool in 1984 for the first time.
