  • took my tj from lake city to ouray its an amazing ride

  • drove this whole pass in a suburban..

  • Our goal is to get to Ouray from Lake City. Obviously we could go south to Durango or north to Montrose, but thought we would take a more "scenic" (but not too difficult) route through the mountains. We are traveling from KS, spending the night at South Fork, then on to Ouray. Have been to Animas Forks on our last trip, LOVED it and wouldn't mind seeing it again.

  • @rosie23336 You can either take the full trail for Engineer Pass then, and come out on the highway next to Ouray, OR just go to Silverton and take the highway to Ouray, obviously. There are no ugly routes down there, as I'm sure you're aware! Have a great time!

  • Thanks so much for your help! So..... is this the Cinnamon Pass road that we will be taking just south of Lake City? Trying to figure out my map, I don't see anything that says North Fork Cutoff. Will there be signs once we get there?

  • @rosie23336 Well, Cinnamon Pass and Engineer Pass make a "loop" starting from Animas Forks Ghost Town to Lake City. You can take either to Lake City and take the other back to Animas Forks (and then on to Silverton). If you take Cinammon Pass from Lake City, you will simply follow the signs to Animas Forks (if you want to stop there and I recommend you do; it's awesome) and then on to Silverton. Or you can bypass Animas Forks and go straight to Silverton. Running out of room, more text next...

  • So if you take Engineer Pass from Lake City, after you go over the summit and you're on the Silverton side of the mountain, you will see a sign for North Fork Cutoff / Animas Forks. Take that for the easy trip back to Silverton. Otherwise, you will follow the signs that say Engineer Pass Hwy 550 Ouray. That will dump you out about 5 miles outside Ouray on Hwy. 550 and this is the more tedious and technical part of Engineer.

  • How long of a trip is it from Lake City to Silverton via Engineer Pass? We drive a Jeep Cherokee.

  • @rosie23336 Sort of depends on how often you want to to stop for photos, to explore, etc. I would plan for 2-3 hours so you can stop along the way...but if you drove straight through you could probably make it in 1.5-2 hours...

  • @JeepsterGal Is this a difficult trail?

  • @rosie23336 If you take the trail from Lake City to SILVERTON it is not so bad, no. That is called taking the "North Fork Cutoff." That takes you through to Animas Forks and then on to Silverton. However, that is the "short cut." If you take it from Lake City all the way to OURAY instead, yes, it is a difficult trail. the bottom portion of the trail, from the Animas Forks area down onto Highway 550, is very steep, narrow and extreme rocky with huge rocks. (see more text, running out of room)...

  • @rosie23336 It is simply very tedious driving because you must travel so slow and you get shaken around quite a bit, but it's fun, technical driving. It is indeed narrow in many places, but it's a beautiful drive. But expect to take a much longer trip going that way, but everyone should experience it at least once to say you've fully driven Engineer Pass. The North Fork Cutoff is pretty easy as long as you have ground clearance and a low gear.

  • do you think i could drive this in an 06 subaru forester with stock ?

  • @magua4 If you have as much ground clearance as a stock Jeep, and the low gears needed for a steep ascent, I would say you would be fine. However, it is very pitted with deep mogals in places and you could scrape if you don't have enuff clearance underneath.

  • Engineer rocks. Had a picnic at the summit back in '85, what a view. Nice video.

  • Back in the ROCKIES in July.

  • I love Mobile Alabama no place like home but this is why I live in the Rockies!

  • you really don't know how lucky you are. I get cabin fever living on the flat land of illinois everyday

  • We did that trail on Ranger ATVs and quads.

  • great stuff from RobotRuss

  • Gig 'em Aggies! I'm an Aggie, born and raised in Texas, have a Jeep, and want to go to engineer pass lol. I'd have a long drive though

  • @tommy35ss WHOOP! It is a long drive, but worth it! You have to see this part of Colorado; it's amazing. Gig'em!

  • @tommy35ss I've driven my TJ from Kansas City thru Colo. out to Moab 3-4 times....I don't look at it as a "long drive".......I look at it like the "adventure" begins as soon as I leave my driveway....."COLO HERE I COME !!!" (again)

  • @tommy35ss

thats nothing compared to what we did. We live in NY and have a commander with qt2 and a 2" lift. Last sommer, we drove from New york tu Moab, Utah and back, driving hundreds of miles offroad. We did also di engineer pass. One of the most beautiful trails in the area!

  • I am taking my first trip up there in my Grand Wagoneer in July with the FSJ group. This is a great video and I am definitely going to share with my kiddos to get them excited about what they are going to see. Thanks for sharing.

  • I drove this last August and we were in the clouds. Not much of a view until we were on top and the clouds were opening on the eastern side.

  • We are planning a trip up engineer's pass in July. I need to find out if I'd have any problems traveling up the pass in a GMC Yukon 4x4? We have travelled several other passes in Colorado, but unsure of this one.

  • @TLSTEPHENSON1 It would be tight but you'd just have to make some 3-point turns on the switchbacks.

  • thanks for sharing.... this is the most beautiful place on earth.... i really miss it

  • Check this 4x4 pass out!

  • Everyone check this 4X4 trail out near Lake City Colorado.

  • That's a "moderate-rated Jeep trail"? Really?

  • I really enjoyed your video. What month did you go? We have never ridden in this area. How long does it take to make the Alpine Loop. We have 2011 Polaris Ranger. It that a suitable vehicle? Thanks for the great video!

  • @quilter916 I usually go in July and September. The Alpine Loop is an all day journey, unless you rush through it without stopping to enjoy the old mines and homesteads and take photos, etc. If you skip the lower part of Engineer and start instead at Animas Forks, you can cut out a couple of hours. Yes, the Ranger will do great on the Alpine Loop. Have fun!

  • @quilter916 Just don't forget that you may snook yourself with an unlicensed vehicle (ATV) once you go over a pass one way to a "public" road.....that's one major drawback to ATVs....often times you have to back track and go back over the pass you just came over because of the unlicensed ATV not legal on public highways.....just saying, something to think about, that's why you see so many Jeeps & licensed motorcycles.

  • we drove engineers pass in a 2003 mazda van in june of 2005. watching this video brings back great memories of one of the most awesome places on earth. there was only one 20 foot section of deeply mud rutted road that caused any concern.

we also did haggerman's pass in the same van. we have the pictures to prove it. that was scary. a lifted 4 wheel drive vehicle would have trouble on that pass.

  • amazing, when I went to Breckenridge all I kept wishing for was my Jeep. Florida is nothing like it, as you might know.

  • I live in florence colorado and colorado is truly god's country,thank-you jeepstergal

  • What time of year did you guys go? We've gone 3 times around the loop, but alway sin the summer.

  • My family & I visited Engineer Pass In June of 08. My father had passes away 6 months prior, and he LOVED Colorado, so we thought it to fitting to bring him to his final resting place. When we found Engineer Pass it was a good fit, as he was a elevator engineer, and to my suprise, we found a beautiful range overseeing a valley. We left my Dad's ashes in the most breathtaking view, and watching your video has convinced me to bring my family back to visit my Dad who which we miss very much! Thanks

  • @TheJefft63 Wow, what a great story! And what an amazing final resting place!

  • I'm going to Lake City the first week of Sept. 2010. Would a high mileage (157k)1995 Cherokee 4X4 manual with Firestone Destinattion LE ( 25k miles on tires) be suitable for the entire Alpine Loop? I'm trying to decide if renting a Wrangler would be wiser.

  • @sapphirepeak You will be fine in your Cherokee! :) Have fun! No need to rent, that will take you where you want to go!

  • Outstanding footage. Was thinking of doing Engineer, but with my mother-in-law & daughter-in-law in the rental Jeep with 2 dogs, I think we'll have to pass this year. Have done Imogene and Ophir before and loved it. Perhaps another time when it's just the wife and I. Thanks for the wonderful shots!

  • looks awsome. Wonder how far from south east Aurora

  • Nice video. I hope to make a run there this fall before the snow falls.

  • Great video! it is so hard to get a good shot that gives you a realistic feel for the inclines and narrow road but you did a supurb job! were you riding on the hood??? LOL ! great choice of music too. Kind of risky going up that late in the year but you caught a great day with frosting on the mountains and gives you the top of the world feeling. again very very nice video!

  • @defiantadp Well, the camera was mounted on the hood! I stayed inside to drive :)

  • awesome to bad in CT we have nothing even close to any type of trail that goes really and where beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • GREAT video, love this loop. What is that first song? Running up that hill. Very suiting, other than the running part.

  • Hi! Thanks for writing and watching, the music is "Running Up That Hill" by Placebo

  • hello jeepstergal fabulous offloading

  • Hey jeepsterGal: Do you use 4 wheel low range going up the pass?

Just sold my Subaru Outback and bought a 2004 WJ! Guess where I'm headed this summer...

  • Ohhhhh yeah...you have to use it on Engineer. the bottom part from Hwy 550 up is super steep and you nee that low gear and when you near the summit you need it too.

  • I drove this trail in July '07 in my '91 wrangler and had a blast. Also did Ophir Pass. Great video! Sold the wrangler and got an '05 Liberty CRD. I miss the 33s I was running, but love the MPGs.

  • 7:37 you just had to hit the puddles huh , id do the same LOL

  • I took a landrover discovery over it was great.

  • Great video

  • We love this video and the music. Your advice on the different roads and trails is very helpful as we are new to off roading.

  • I would love to do this trail.

  • My brother and I ended up taking a Chevy Lumina up that, it was intense but one of the best experiences of my life.

  • That's pretty sweet. Thanks for sharing this. I like the little scenic overlook at

    4:33. ;-)

  • anybody answer me

can i drive my honda element ?

  • I would not recommend it !

  • Thanks for this video, I love that entire area. There are so many things to do from hiking and mountain biking to (obviously) jeeping.

  • Awesome scenery

  • Thanks for the video. The first time I went up this pass was in August 1987. As I rounded the curve just passed "O Point" I saw the redish mountain ahead and to the left and thought I had to go up those switchbacks. Fortunately you don't. When I take a new person with me I like to tell them we still have to go up the redish mountain so they can experience the terror I did that first trip. I have been over Cinnamon and Engineer many times since each time I get a new off-road vehicle.

  • That's funny, I know exactly which switchbacks you're talking about. See people taking them, but have never done it myself. Way to scare your passengers! LOL

  • good video. we take the jeeps up there every summer, to silverton. the most amazing place you will ever expeirience. you cant see the mountains like this unless you go up with jeeps, we just got back a few days ago. its a long drive from south texas but it is most deffinatley worth the drive.

  • Very Helpful. We are going someplace OCT8-12. Know any good jeep trails (easy to moderate) that would be good near the sand dunes?

  • hey, there is a trail that is connected to the sand dunes and it's called Medano Pass, it is a decent trail ride, i have a lifted jeep but it's open differential front and rear and i had no problems. it's an easy run and it makes a great afternoon ride.

  • Hey thanks for sharing...what will the conditions be in early October?

  • Will probably be okay...depends on snowfall. I'm there many years in late September or early October and it's perfect. Wouldn't wait much past mid-October though...

  • Ok so you went in September... Do you think it'll be too snowy/icy in late October? This looks like so much fun!

  • Hey there...yeah, it will be closed in late October.

  • Thanks for the tour, I walked ove 20 years ago headed up 14ers, but couldn't remember conditions, driving there next week end w/ daughter for 14ers. So it was helpful to see a video to recall 4WD conditions. Nice job on the video.

  • Awesome.

  • thanks for letting me re-live the day that we made the summit in our truck. It was a beautiful day!

  • Hey there! Thanks for writing! It was a perfect day!! I have a LOT of new video to post from my trip down there earlier this month; just been too swamped to edit anything yet! But I'll have Imogene and Clear Lake up next.

  • Awesome video, the San Juans are spectacular. Can't wait to go back.

  • that is a crazy dropoff. colorado backroads are great ..!!!

    tony tyler colorado springs co.

  • awsome pass i go over every fourth of july and eat at the bbq place in lake city

  • That's because the Western Hotel is haunted!

  • Well we stayed in the suite which was the nicest room in the western and all of the things inside of it are the original things. But it was all creeky and tons of noises that wake u up they r so loud. Stuff moves etc... FREAKY!

  • watching this video Gave me goosebumps. P.S. Lake City is an amazing place with amazing people. Everybody knows everyone and everyone waves. Check out the crazy married couple that run the Brazilian and Italian resteraunt when u get the chance in Lake City. Man i love lake city!

  • Beautiful... I am 14 and i just got back from a vacation with my dad in lake city. We stayed at the texan in lake city then we bought a 10 acre mining claim with a micro-cabin on it. We took Engineer's pass to Ouray and it was awesome! We then moved onto Ouray and hit the hot springs and stayed in the western( that place is scary as shit) then onto telluride the last day. I will never forget this trip

  • Congrats on buying a mining claim! Sounds fun! what happened at the Western Hotel? I've been there many times for dinner, but never stayed overnight. Did you have ghosts????

  • It was the most beautiful sight i've ever seen. I'll never forget that trip. Thanks for the post. And thank you God for creating such a beautiful world

  • I took this trip about 34 years ago with my family. As we rounded a bend at the top there was the biggest bald eagle i've ever seen. It was at perched on a rock, it stood at least three feet high. The guy driving hit his brakes, the eagle jumped into the air, flapped it's wings (almost 6 feetwide) once and just soared off. We watched it glide for about 5 minutes and it never flapped its wings again..

  • you should hike it...kind of an oxymoron to be in a parking lot at the top of a mountain...

  • I was about 15 the last time I went up that pass, I am 22 now and it scared the CRAP out of me then and watching video, it still scares the crap out of me, but I live in Texas so I'm not use to that stuff lol, Engineer made slumgullion seem like a breeze heading back to Creede lol

  • what does the other side of that pass look like? easier or worse?

I want to do both Ophir and engineer pas on a '79 vespa scooter this summer.

  • Other side is easier going down into Lake City. Take Cinnamon Pass back and make the Alpine Loop. It's a great trip, will take all day.

  • I was there the first week of june 07, spent 3 days jeeping the trails around silverton. I live on the Texas gulf coast, I cant wait to go back, untill then, I love your vids of the trails.

  • I grew up on the TX Gulf Coast as well and Colorado is like another world to this former "flatlander!" LOL. Glad you enjoy the vids...

  • Going to South Fork for our 17th summer up there but we have never taken a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We are this time. Several people have talked about the drive from Lake City to Ouray. We have a Dodge ext cab 4x4 with long bed...should we go or not?

  • You'll be fine, but might have a do a few three-point turns on the other side of Engineer near the summit. Then, instead of taking Engineer all the way to Hwy 550 (which puts you out just 5 miles outside of Ouray), I would turn at Animas Forks and hit the Hwy by going through Silverton first...the reason I suggest that is the BOTTOM part of Engineer Road, which is the one that puts you out on the highway, is VERY switchback ridden and you may have problems with a longer wheel base. Have fun!

  • I'm dyin' to know the artist and title for the first song in this video! btw - we been goin to Ouray every year since I was born - I'm 26 now lol. We;ve dont every single piece of road up there. I've gotten almost obsessed with the area - so decided to start compiling information - both written and my own -to write a book. There could never be enough books about the most beautiful place on earth! thanks so much for giving an Oklahoman an opportunity to visit that place 51 of 52 weeks of the year

  • Hey there, it's: "Running Up That Hill" by Placebo. That's awesome you've been able to spend so much time in Ouray. It's Heaven on Earth there :) Good luck with your book!

  • I was literally made physically sick with vertigo watching this. Colorado surely is the best!

  • Yikes! That's a steep dropoff on the left side of that road. I wish I had the nerve to drive a road like that. I know my limitations and I just don't. I'd freak out if I were on that road. You have my admiration & my envy. You're obviously not afraid of heights. Good driving & great views.

  • Glad you enjoyed it!

  • you're tasted in music sucks

  • Colorado is the sickest state ever.

  • I need to get back out there one of these days. I loved it last time I wheeled out there.

  • We rented a Wrangler in Silverton and headed up Engineer pass, it was a blast. (Couldn't talk my parents into letting me bring my Cherokee)

  • I've seen huge trucks on this trail but they do have trouble making the switchbacks near the top. Just means you'll be making a few 5-point turns at times...

  • Looks pretty tight on some of the parts, would a fullsize axle be okay on there? Talkin 80" trackwidth.

  • is this pass restricted or could I go up there on my motorbike?

  • Yes, you can ride your motorbike on Engineer.

  • I hope you are comfortable taking your Shadow on gravel, rocks and puddles. All of the street bikes I've ever had detested gravel. But the view from the top of Engineer Pass is the most incredible sight I've ever seen. You just can't take a picture of mountains and have the sight turn out right, so I definitely recommend you get up there somehow.

  • this summer I got lost in Alberta and ended up doing heavy gravel on a logging road for 13 miles and while I didn't like it (especially being passed by trucks), it wasn't a big deal; also I've ridden in some pretty serious T-storms and have experienced both hail and black ice (the road in this video looks pretty decent, and the pay-off is fantastic)

  • this was a reply to really2ugly

  • Who cares what other vehicles it could be done in. It's a great video of Engineer Pass, wihout any lame narration or A-D-D spaz frat drivers. Just a nice calm trip to 13K in the sun. And jeepstergal has good taste in music.

  • Thanks, I appreciate it. Anyone who thinks a passenger car could make it over Engineer has obviously never driven the entire route, which begins at Hwy. 550. This video is of the final ascent ONLY, from just past Animas Forks. The beginning of the drive from Hwy. 550 is extremely rough, you need ground clearance and a low gear. Just because the road appears smooth at the top does not change the fact you needed a low gear to even get to that point.

  • Wow that's awesome. Thanks for posting the video. Now I need to ask around and see if any hang gliding is done up there!

  • used to go up and down that pass all time time when i was real lil

always scared the shit outa me

    fun stuff

  • jesus those are big cliffs! scared of heights

  • yeah. totally mistook this for another road.... went over there and was kind of disapointed haha. it's allright.

  • engineer is one of the harder passes in teh area. i give props to anyone who drives it.

  • You are joking...right??? Engineer is almost a car road man. Go over Black Bear if you want your zero to pucker up alittle.

  • Yeah, a relative of mine found out that it's passable in an '88 Pontiac Trans Am.

  • You are right - dumb Aussie here too a Chrysler Pacifica over in 2005 from the Lake City Side. I wouldn't try it again - the car hire company would freak out - only issue was a slight lack of ground clearance :)

  • You should not worry at all, Wranglers are perfect for Engineer! You won't have a problem at all with that short wheel base. No worries about rolling; it's challenging but not overly dangerous like Black Bear. You'll do great. Enjoy it and start early! You'll have the sun in your eyes going up the first hour or so but you'll be glad not to be meeting people on the trail on that first stretch, as it's a tight fit in many places. If you start early, you'll won't meet anyone on that part.

  • Hey Jgal, this is rockymtnhigh again, it's been a while. We're goin on Sept 5th-13th, we're takin Eng. pass, please tell me if we should worry, we have an 04 wrang. on 33's w/ a 4" lift. But I am afraid to roll down 14,000 feet. What do you request. We'll be leaving Ouray way to our cabin on Cristobal. Hope your good. Thanks(bought this album, thanks)

  • Awesome Video !!!

  • going up to colorado on tuesday cant wait!!!

  • Great video!! I rode The Colorado 1000 in 06 & 07. Its a 1000 off road enduro motorcycle ride from Dolores to Crester Butte Co than back over 8 days from town to town. This video reminds me of that great trip! We were there at the end of Aug. The views are unreal. Hope to see a vodeo going into Lake City..! LOL!

  • Love it..great vid need to find some time to get my 06 X out on the trails this summer....Any day wheelin in Colorado is a Beautifull day!

  • Outstanding video presentation - plan on being in the area in mid-August. You vids give me a good idea where to go -thanks. I'll clunk along in my F150 4x4 which has been pretty much all over the front range. Looks like I'll be Ok here too.....

  • Yep, you should be fine on most moderate trails in the San Juans. Have fun! Thanks for watching!

  • Very good! I drove this once from Lake City over Cinnamon to Animas Forks then back over Engineer returning to Lake City. Is this the same route you took. Looks a little different - I had clouds to go through so that may be why I don't recognize all of it. I did get to that Engineer Summit Sign.

  • Yes, this is the same route :)

  • Oh the memories...My father took me on this pass when I was about 10 yrs old (25yrs ago).

I can remember how scared I was, but it was awesome! I live for my Colorado trips every summer!

  • JeepsterGal, you are definitely a heroine of mine. After buying a Wrangler in January and discovering the pleasure of offroading I discovered this video and instantly decided I wanted to do something similar here in New Mexico. Now, armed with the same Vixia camcorder and Sticky Pod you have mentioned using in replies to your readers, I'm ready to begin. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the inspiration. If I can only do half as well as you have in this venture...

  • Hey WindCatcher! Good luck! It takes a while to figure out the best placement of the camera on your vehicle for maximum smoothness, but you'll figure it out. You'll have a blast! Email me when you get some videos created!

  • Just viewed your videos of Ophir Corkscrew and Engineer they give a great indication of what to expect on these routes, and so professionally done, Thanks

I'm taking my first trip to Colorado this July and hope to do those very three routes, and if I feel comfortable, would like to try Imogene.

I'm used to the dirt roads of Utah and Arizona and have an FJ Cruiser set up for off road, so..what do you think, no problem?

Did you air down your tires, and to what pressure?

  • We have plans to get to the Ouray area this summer to enjoy some 4WD trails. Thanks JeepsterGal!

  • I'll be there July 4th week! Maybe we'll meet on the trail :)

  • O' sorry Jeepster. We have a campout set for the 4th and a collective 4x4 run w/ campout and Luau, yeah I said Luau :), set for later in July.

  • Well that sounds fun! Have a great time!

  • I can't tell you how much you inspired me to go here! Your stuff is great and i always check back for new stuff- got the whole family watching your vids and now flying and driving in for a vaca. thanks.

  • Thanks for posting and I'm glad you enjoy my videos! I haven't had much time to edit lately but I do have several more I filmed that need to be edited, so keep checking back. And now that it's summer, there's more trails to do! Enjoy your Colorado vacation!

  • Hey thanks for writing and watching! Your FJ will have no problems. Ophir is easy, a good loop would be to take Imogene from Ouray to Telluride and come back Ophir. Engineer can be done with Cinnamon Pass by doing the Alpine Loop: Engineer from Ouray to Lake City, and Cinnamon to Ouray back. Corkscrew is easy, start in Silverton and take Corkscrew back down to the highway. Grab a guide book and stick to Moderate/Easy trails your first time until you get a feel for the trails. You'll love it!

  • Totally Diggin' your vids! I will be doing some of these trails this summer, and your vids are getting me stoked! I am curious what type of camera mount you are using?

  • Hey, thanks for watching. I use a Sticky Pod to mount the camera to to the roof and I run a cable to a portable DVD player in the Jeep so I can see what I'm getting as it's happening and make adjustments. Enjoy your trip to the San Juans!

  • hey jeepstergal love your videos i live in denver and i love the mountains too i want to take a trip to ride that mountain this summer but dont know if my jeep patriot would make it what do you think

  • Hey, thanks for watching! As long as you've got 4x4 I think you're fine. Engineer doesn't need extra clearance, just needs a nice, tight Granny Low gear, especially if you begin outside Ouray and take the long trip...the easier route is going through Silverton to Animas Forks and just taking the final summit to Engineer. But you miss the most challenging part of the trail doing that. Bur yeah, I think a Patriot would be fine. Have fun!

  • I was raised in these mountains and your vids make me homesick. That is good tho keep it up

  • I just wanted to say that we have watched your video here several times. I think the song makes it deeper than you can imagine. We posted a few of ours on here too. I'm addicted to sharing the greatest thing known to man. COLORADO, tanx

  • Thanks, everyone seems to comment on the music I use, which is nice because that is my favorite part of these videos :) I watched your videos; they are great too. Gotta love Creede! Looks for more from me soon!

  • Just beautiful now I'm home sick. Your video helps me remember the way Co. looked when I visited a long time ago. Well done

  • I AM GOING THERE, this is an awesome video, You can vever descrbe the beauty of Colorado you have to be there to see, feel and touch it. Great job girl.

  • Hey jeepstergirl, Awesome videos, haven't seen all yet, we'll try to finish the Alpine loop in Sept this year. Have you attempted Black Bear Pass in Telluride yet? What is the 1st song in this video? Your great, thank you for sharing.

  • It's "Running Up that Hill" by Placebo. I try to list all my music in my videos at the end of the description, so just reveal the description and you'll see the "soundtrack." I have not attempted Black Bear yet. I think I'd like to witness it first in the back of a tour Jeep before trying it on my own!

  • Nice video! Hope can see it too! Nice job!

  • Thanks, it's a great trail!

  • I have been there once years ago - real nail biter at times. I was ok until I looked down.

  • great video,,, i have taken my jeep through these old mining trails many times,,,, i even flipped my jeep off a 20 foot cliff called "Dead Mans Curve",,,, good times.... miss that place

  • wow beutifull I hope to take my family up there this sommer

  • awesome video. what song is playing on the first half of the video

  • awesome video. what song is playing in the first half of the video

  • Pretty kewl, JeepsterGal! I was up there several times on my way to climb some 14ers. I would have taped it but my wink-dink Canon SD800 won't give me more than a minute of vid recording. Independence Pass is awesome as well!

    See you on the road!

    Knight

  • did you film this with that canon hi-def?

  • No, the Canon HV20 has what's called a "rolling shutter" with its CMOS sensor, which made it useless in this situation...the film was distorted and jumpy with that camera due to the sensor. This was filmed with a Canon Optura 20.

  • Thanks for the clarification.

  • Thanks for another great video!!! keep it up!

  • Heart-stopping stuff! Thanks for the ride.

  • I just can't get enough of your videos!! When I was out there, I was at a gas station between Ridgway and Ouray and some kid came up and tried telling me he does Engineer in 2wd in a stock XJ. I giggled at him and told him he must not be choosing the harder paths.

  • Hey, glad you enjoy my vids. Coming soon will be a video of Engineer Pass at the beginning of the trail off Hwy 550...I can't imagine anyone could get up it in 2wd :) I have over 4 hours of video of the Engineer Pass trail, so look for more soon! Thanks for commenting!

  • hi, great video, we are back home in tx now and lookng at this is almost as fun as driving it. Thank you for all your experience. The people at work could not believe it. They were very afraid. Before we left CO we went up Hurricaine and California. Snow and ice, it was great. It is really fun to watch my jeep. Keep in touch. Two from TX

  • Hey! Glad you found me and saw the video! Were you the class of 68 or the other year (now I can't remember what it was). Keep checking back or better yet, subscribe to my channel and you'll get the new videos as I put them up. More to come soon! Gig 'em!

  • PS. I made an "autumn" video as well with both your Jeeps in it on the way up Engineer. Check it out!

  • Great video! It brings back memories. I HAD to go up there on a rented dirt bike in the summer of 1982 to finish grieving the death of my mother. I went to the top of Engineer Pass because I don't think there is a more awe inspiring and beautiful site I have ever seen. Sadly, I haven't been up there since. Thank you for the memories, and I'm glad you're home safely.
