@jojopuppyfish Right back at you. AJ Duhe? I grew up in Astoria, Queens, and cried like I lost my best friend. The Sack Exchange gave me hope. Then, it was lost.
@Dactuck I grew up in Chicago.....We were in wisconsin at a ski resort.....I went over to the bar for 5 minutes and this play happened. Never saw an interception like that
To me, that will ALWAYS BE .....THE perfect game. Woodley Mia: 1 TD offence. Duhe Mia: 1 TD defence. You couldnt read the names on the jerseys. You could barely make out the yard lines. But you knew it was the goal line those 2 times Miami crossed it. I wish I could find a dvd copy of the game. Its a legandary one. That and that "hook and ladder" debacle and the 24 point spotting for the Chargers. And that stupid "snow plow" convict up at Foxboro.THE JETS GAME WE WON! Against Todd, that was rare.
@7mikethebike Spoken like a true jets fan. Those were the days. Don Strock, Richard Todd. I admired Todd, he had a backbone of steel. So did Joe Furguson (bills), and Steve Grogan (patriots). What has it come to? No more Orange Bowl 98k sellouts. No more Shea Stadium....and FEZZ at the jets QB. Even the 70s show couldnt pull that off. Those great and even legendary programs have been driven into the ground by corp A holes. Even the famous Lions Honolulu Blue is replaced by FORD BLUE. OUCH!
the field was muddy for both teams, but retarded, litter tolerant, mugging tolerant, subway tolerant, filth lovin', noise lovin, black-teeth lovin, bad breath lovin', ugly women lovin, new yorkers (porktown), don't understand 'dat', 'right, 'new yakkers'?
@graciemaemarie11 you are stupid. Both teams didn't have the same strong and weak characterisitics. You and a fur seal can both be held underwater for 8 minutes- you both have to breathe air, right? It is fair. You prevaricating slime. tell your lies to your loved ones. that's probably what you do anyway.
asgard.. I retract the severity of my comment, and the "hey stupid" remark, after reading your reply.
You are clearly an anomaly among Jet fans :) One with decency and intelligence.
Yes, Marino was a hot-blooded QB-- he did yell at players and even coaches, but if you listen to Clayton and Duper today they will tell you he was a great field general and competitor. I think that's what it was all about, how fiercely he wanted to win.
The Dolphins were a powerhouse Franchise in the 80's and Early 90's...Just couldnt get the ring...Marino was a hard worker..derserved one...Thats just how it goes sometimes..we cant all go.
@MrSlik25 Marino didn't deserve shit. Nothing against the Dolphins, but Marino was the biggest crybaby, blame everyone but himself quarterback that I've ever seen. He may have been the greatest passer, but he was a horrible leader. A great quarterback can inspire his team to play better then they normally would at times. Dwight Clark would have never made "The Catch" for Marino.
@asgardpictures The comparison is made between Marino and Aikman in Jeff Pearlman's book "Boys Will Be Boys" and it noted that Marino would point fingers ("Who missed the block?") when things went wrong and Aikman never did. Marino was not a leader or a great quarterback, he was a great passer. The excuses that he lacked a run game or defense are dishonest because he had enough of both - the reason he didn't win a title was because he wasn't good enough.
@STP43FAN1 I'm glad to hear my theory is not a lonely one. My favorite was Marino coming off the field yelling at Irving Fryar after an incomplete saying, " You gotta come back to the ball, baby!", which was clearly audible n television. Maybe Fryar did have a miscue on the call, but you don't yell at a veteran receiver like that without sounding condescending.
Hey stupid. Marino was not in the NFL this game. Get your facts straight. Not only that, but talk to his teammates and they will tell you that he was a total commander on the field. He was tough beyond belief. But then again, a Jets fan like you (don't hide) would never admit to such a thing.
@pbrealtor I know Marino wasn't in this game, saw this game live. Yes, I am Jets fan, I"m not hiding that at all. I was replying to a comment about Marino. I'm just making the observation that after seeing him play many years it always bugged me that he would constantly be yelling at his players on the field. Montana didn't do that. Phil Simms didn't do that. For all the 62 times Ken O'Brien got sacked in one year, he never did that. Just saying, psychologically, it's gotta take a toll.
Shula knew his team couldn't stop Freeman Mcneil, hence no tarp and the joke that was the mud bowl. To bad it didn't rain before the Super Bowl...John Riggens made the Dolphin's D his personal Biotch.
@dolfangirl1 The last game between them prior to the afc championship ended 20-19. Yes the Dolphins won but anybody who knows anything about sports will tell you one of the hardest things to do is beat the same team 3 times in one year. Shula was scared by how close that 20-19 game was in Miami. Plus the Jets were on a role having beaten the defending afc champion Bengals and the best team in the league, the 8-1 Raiders back to back. So there!
@Jonwood74 Yeah, I remember the 20-19 score...Shula put Don Strock in & he drove for the winning FG.
Shula's mistake in SB XVII was not putting Strock in by the 2nd half, Miami's D got worn down from all of
Woodley's 3 & outs. Btw, don't hate on the Fins, my son is a Jets fan & I've always liked 'em, especially when
they play Oakland & Pittsburgh. The Pats pulled the snowplow stunt on Miami in '82 (remember?) maybe that's why Shula left the tarp on for NY...division rivalrys are ugly.
i remember this game the dolphins 14 the jets 0 however the dolphins lost the super bowl to the redskins in January of 1983
