Carlos Kleiber's "Tristan und Isolde" is until today the most beautiful and most musical interpretation of this opera by Richard Wagner, he also transmits the most intense atmosphere. Without any doubt he was the greatest conductor, serving only the spirit of the composer. Carlos Kleiber was able to "re-compose", to "re-create" the music while conducting in such a magnificent way no other conductor was able to do so.
In Carlos Kleiber's extremely intense approach of music-making it is very clear to see that printed sheet music is just a guideline and never ever the real music: "real music" exists only in the very moment and can not be printed or recorded. In case we want to hear real music the only way is to attend a concert!
Thank you so much for posting this great document which I guess was taped during a rehearsal for the backstage cameras to guide singers and chorus.
Where did you get this astounding footage?
