Cloud NEVER knew of the Buster Sword's history. His only connection to the sword, are Zack's dying words that signify the importance of the sword. He used the sword, as a reminder of Zack. It just so happens that he confused his own life with Zack's. He places his sword on the cliff edge as a reminder of the sacrifice of a warrior, a hero. Then moves the Buster Sword to the church, after seeing Aerith and Zack in the church, in their honour.

@tomjoey12 Aerith decided to sacrifice herself because she knew what was going to happen, thats why she separated from the rest of the party and went into the City of the Ancients on her own, when Cloud got there she was already praying to summon Holy to stop Meteor and thats when Sephiroth killed her, Cloud blames himself because he wasn't there in time nor strong enough to save her. He promised to be her bodyguard and he carries survivors guilt with him through out the rest of the game&movie.

@DoggieAngel12345 After the final battle with Sephiroth, Cloud likely took that sword back to the place Zach died... giving it back in a way. I think he did this as proof that he'd broken free of the past and had become his own person once again. He wasn't living in Zach's place anymore. He was living for himself.

At the end of Advent Children Complete, he actually takes the Buster Sword, cleans it up, and places it in Aerith's church... I think that was a homage to the both of them.

Have you played the game? If not in the game Cloud meets Aerith but because he had mako poisoning his memories merged with Zacks stories and memories so he knows about Zacks life thinking its himself who lead it (if that makes sense lol). So Cloud never says hi to Aerith from Zack. So this clip explains how Zack told him to live Cloud Zacks life and how Cloud literally did that.

im not sure if this is completely accurate, but Jenova was like an alien sorta thing that got captured by the Shinra corp. The Shinra corp had found a way of taking the planets life stream and using it as an energy source, to protect these things and to do the dirty work the Shinra corp made super soldiers (like cloud, Zack, sephiroph, Kadaj, etc). The reason Kadaj calls Jenova "mother" is because he was made using her cells (as were all teh super soldiers) and thats why they are all "brothers"

jenova was an alien that used a dead planet to ride to earth. then shinra excivated her remains and thought she was an ancient.

since ancients were supposed to lead the way to the promised land shinra tried cloneing jenova in order to use the clone to get there.

the promised land was supposedly full of mako, which was running on short supply.

What I could've sworn I seen this. They did cut some scene out of the english version that was in the japanese version like when Cloud and Tifa were talking and Tifa said "dilly dally, shilly shally" then Cloud went into his mind (or whatever) and he says how he just let Aerith die and then Aerith says the same thing Tifa said "dilly dally..." or in this case "Zuruzuru".
