Somebody once told me that the original demo for this song was over 15 minutes long, and it was nothing more than this simplistic riff. Of all the instrumental tracks out there, i.e. Duane Eddy's "Rebel Rouser," and the Champs' "Tequila," I think this one has one of the coolest drum soloes. Who's with me?
hey this is my dad, Jim Fuller, the grandfather of surf guitar in this video you guys should also look up his other band "jim fuller and the beatnik" if you like them.
I enjoyed the Surfaries when they were a new group in the 1960's. I think them better than the Venturies or Beach Boys for sure. Beach Boys could never handle a Wipeout or Pipeline. That is 100% guaranteed.
well, you can't compare them, from their first single onwards they were as much a vocal harmonie group as they were a surf rock band, and dennis wilson could play some mean solos, especially live, and their miserlou isn't as bad as you would believe it to be.
Ron, Jim pash was my uncle. I didn't even know till now that someone put the surfaris on you tube. The band members names are at the Guitar Center Rock Walk on Sunset Blvd.
Bob Berryhill fronts another Surfaris with his family. Paul Johnson(the bald one) is the founder of The Bel Airs and co wrote Mr. Moto. Jim Fuller is the lead guitarist on Wipeout. The surfaris original drummer died of cancer. I'm trying to remember if their bass player (I'm spacing on the name) is performing in this lineup. Bob and Paul are both hardcore Born Again Christians and I recall that many others in the band are as well.
The original drummer, Ron Wilson, died of a brain aneurysm in 1989. At the time, he was playing under the "Surfaris" name with guitarist, Dale Beckner and bass player, Andy Lagomarsino, formerly of "Brother Buzz"--my college band when Andy and I attended U.C. Davis. In the early 80's, Dale, Andy, and Ron reformed the Surfaris, which competed with another Surfaris band in southern California. When Ron passed away, the northern Surfaris disbanded.

The original bass player, Bob Connelly split for good when the surfaris disbanded back in the later 60's.
He swore he'd never play with them again. From what I understand, he's supposed to be living in Southern California area.
Ron Wilson, the true original drummer, died in the late 70's from a brain tumor. I'm also sorry to say he died without a penny to his name.

I'm Bob Connelly's cousin. Do you have any info on where he may be? We lost track years ago.

Wipe Out makes me pull over to the side of the road, stop, listen, and grin while I hit the beat with my head. This is so great.
