It is a "intestinal cleaner", which I can safely say would have zero effect on anyone with Ulcerative Colitis, except perhaps making it worse. Where is the "science" you're talking about? That is my mistake, I only assumed VitalGest was a digestive enzyme because such a name is often associated with digestive enzymes and digestive enzymes are recommended for people with colitis and/or food allergies but that error does not discredit the rest of my statement. A colon cleanse eliminates mucous, bacteria & putrid matter that would aggravate colitis or IBS so it would improve conditions but by itself I would agree is probably not a permanent solution to colitis.

Science indicates Ulcers & Ulcerative Colitis are caused by one or more(bad)bacteria.

Science shows that taking antibiotics kills bacteria, both good& bad. Left unprotected the bad bacteria will over run the intestines causing disease that will eventually kill the body.

Science indicates supplementing with a wide variety of pro-bitics, (good bacteria) will repopulate the good bacteria. I was surprised to see MDs begin to sell pharmaceutical grade pro-biotics & for a hefty price.

The dog had already been lethargic for 3 days staring at the ground not eating or drinking & gums pure white. I said I need to do chelation therapy on my dog. The vet said angrily your dog will be dead in 3 days!

I waited 3 weeks, took the dog back into the vet for more blood work & he said Jake doesn't have Hemolytic Autoimmune disease anymore but he has interests to protect & lawsuits to avoid so he would never admit it had anything to do with vaccines or mercury even though I got him into a corner several times.

I learned something interesting. Often times you might ask a Dr or Vet What is the cause of a particular disease & they say we don't know. Whenever I would hear, We don't know what causes that then I keyword a connection to mercury or vaccines like when my vet said they didn't know what causes panosteitis in my large breed dog I searched Vaccine symptoms & vaccines can cause pain in the joints. Another article fluid was extracted from the joints of a dog with pano & found vaccines had accumulated in the joints. I raised dogs & had plenty to observe reactions following vaccines...

I saw a pattern. 5 mos is when large breed dogs get pano "and as mysteriously as it began it goes away in a few months" but I noticed 5mos is time for the 1st rabies vaccine & other reading says the rabies vaccine is the most harsh of all the vaccines. That's all the proof I need to see a very clear denial of vaccine problems in a strong coordinated by vets & family Drs alike to protect the vaccine programs & when I asked it was verified by a few Drs.

My goal was to remove the legally required mercury/vaccines from my dog's cells before he ended up with a serious illness so when I saw pano come on after his rabies shot I gave him DMSA instead of EDTA because I learned it was safer & I saw a pattern. Given DMSA 1 day no limping, skip DMSA limping. I go into the hospital with a terrible pain, they say it's pancreatitis which requires a 3 day hospital stay, no food by mouth but by a tube in my stomach, I decline.Since I have a diagnosis I research the cause & the cure. Anyone who tells you that ulcerative colitis is incurable is full of it. I've had UC since surgeons removed my gall bladder about 5 years ago. About a year ago, however, I woke up on day and was literally COMPLETELY cured. My completely healed condition lasted for 6 days, then the UC symptoms returned. I tried to reproduce my diet from the days prior to my instant healing, to no avail. I do believe, though, that curing this condition is a matter of diet.

I have a young friend in Finland with that disease...he went thru the usual drug stuff but no success - his parents took him to a holistic practitioner in Sweden and a big change in diet and no drugs was the key...it's now 13 years since btw, my son's german shorthair pointer was having difficulties, getting thinner and thinner.. they found a holistic vet who put him on raw meat, a slurry of veggies, a supplement and raw egg.. and he's gained back weight and attitude...:)

You wont die form this condition. Colitis is never fatal and its all about good management. My 21 daughter has it so i have done a lot of research in this area but difficult to conclusively find out what causes it.

My daughter was on isotane for acne. This is a nasty drug. Not only does it dry out your skin also the it drys out the protective mucus lining of your colon leaving the area open to viral infection and inflammation (colitis).

Dunno about a cure but for some UC sufferers diet and supplements make a huge difference. I find following the vegan lifestyle style plus Vit D, fish oil and probiotics help a great deal. I suppose in part the difference is whatever is causing the issue in the first place. For me I'd say diet outranks steroids 3 or 4 to 1.

Disease is caused by not eating fruits & veggies. You simply lack knowledge in the processes of the body & the chain reaction that leads to disease. Most people know what scurvy is. Scurvy is caused by not consuming fruits & vegetables, you will die from scurvy which is identical to cancer.
