Too bad there's no longer any gold in there. There has never been a complete audit where each gold bar was weighed, assayed for purity, then given a serial number and cataloged. The last "audit" was in the early 1950s where a bunch of senators and congressmen were given a quick "tour" and shown a few vaults with what looked like orangish hued "gold" bars. Even the people on that bogus tour commented that the gold had a strange orange cast to it. What gold there was was taken long ago

Already in the case "Callador VS Lawson" in California the supreme court shot down California's law which stated citizens on foot would have to show an ID to an officer......(.they would have to show a license still if pulled over driving a motor vehicle). Hey informationauth GLD is a bunch of gold derivatives. They are worth less coz u share gold with others. There is no 1 to 1ownership of physical gold but rather a leasing of common gold. There is not enough physical gold in the world to cover the GLD derivatives! The world is unable to produce these much gold at max capacity. US dollars are backed by the US GDP composed of Consumer , Govt , Business Spending, Int'l Trade Balance. Gold cannot back the US $ coz there is not enough in the USA.

Paper money used to say (prior to about 1958) "will pay to the bearer on demand one dollar in Silver (or gold depending on the type of bill).
