@mistyee312 you're either born with a good ear or you're not. if you aren't, you just have to use sheet music all the time. i suppose it can be possible to train your ear with enough practice, but if you're not born with it, it's really hard.

No. Saying your born with it undermines the hard work musicians' endure. Perhaps they have talent at the start, but dedication shines through. Look at Mozart, fuck yes he was talented. But the amount of hours he went through to become such a composer was what made him special.

It is debatable if you are born a musician, but in my own experience with many musicians, practice is what makes them.

And in my justified opinion, a good ear is achieved through learning, not being born.

@SiMoN6873 I believe your *potential* at a given skill is determined by your genetics, but whether or not you reach that potential is completely up to you and how much you work to refine that particular skill. Peoples' levels of potential can most definitely differ. That's no reason to stop practicing, of course. Just because your ceiling may not be quite as high as some awesome youtube pianist doesn't mean you can't become pretty awesome yourself. Especially don't stop if you love doing it.

Yes having the musical ear has its benefits but you can still be good without it and it doesnt take just being lucky at birth, it takes the hard work. I play the saxophone and i have surpassed people who have been playing a whole year before i have. Its the work that makes you good not genetics. without my many hours of practice i wouldnt be better then any of those people and i have the ear.

Weil was bringts du spielt was weiß ich,20 Jahre klavier und kannst es noch nicht spielen wie jetzt der typ hier und andere spielen erst seit 2 Jahren und können es. Wenn man will das man ein Lied spielen kann,muss man sich auf'n arsch setzen und es lernen. :D (nichts gegen dich)^^
