I notice alot his sacks came against teams in the AFC west, teams with bad pass protection. If you look at Aldon Smiths highlights you'll see him get sacks on almost every team the 49ers played lol...
@YBRR88 Von Miller had 4.0 sacks against AFC West teams, Aldon Smith had 5.0 against NFC West. This is just my opinion, but I think the Charger' and Raiders' offensive lines are better than the Rams' and Seahawks'.
@YBRR88 The Rams OTs couldn't block shit. Seattle and Arizona have bad OTs. Add in 2.5 sacks against crappy Steeler OTs and a Big Ben who couldn't move, 2 against a joke of a Tampa team, and 2 versus a Lions team that throws every play with bad OTs. Plus Aldon had better players around him and no cast + 1 game. Von had 4 sacks against the AFC West. That really isn't that much considering it's about a third of his sacks and more than a third of the season is against the AFC West lol...
Pure homerism at its finest, lol. He will never be better than Willis, for the simple fact Willis is a rare breed LB with power, instincts and Wr speed. V.miller is not comparable.
remember miller was tied for 2nd most sacks this season before his injury. So if he didnt get hurt he could have had 5 more sacks on the year... and to the person saying smith is better. Explain to me why miller got chosen by the broncos and smith didnt? And i dont care whos better. All i care is that miller balled all year and he is going to be a bronco for a longggg time..
Von Miller had 64 tackles and zero missed that is great especially for a rookie. Smith can only rush the passer. Von can rush the passer (great btw) drop back in coverage and stop the run and had more of a impact on his team. Smith had more sacks but they just don't compare one stat, if so Jarret Allen would have won defensive player of the year (22 sacks). Smith only had more sacks because Von missed a game and had a cask on
Pro Football Focus (PFF) rated Von Miller as the best linebacker in all of football. His 50.3 overall rating nearly doubled the next best 4-3 OLB (Daryl Smith, 27.6) and easily beat the second best overall linebacker (Cameron Wake, 43.4). PFF also credited Miller with 12 sacks, 19 QB hits, 29 pressures, and 41 stops to go with zero missed tackles.
@RayWilliamJohansen a better overall rookie year why did von miller win DROY 64 tackles 11.5 sacks for 77 yards lost 2 force fumbles and 4 passes defended.......Aldon Smith 37 tackles 14 sacks 105 yards lost 2 forced fumbles and the big reason why von miller is better is becuz hes a STARTER he can do it all play the run cover the slot and TEs rush the qb whlie aldon smith can only rush the passer witch is why he dint start
@937buckeyeboy no ,he did not start because he was in the 49ers defense. It is much more difficult to become a starter in our defense. Heck, he would be a starter in the broncos defense.
@937buckeyeboy yeah that may be true but aldon smith is still better and like I said had he been with the denver broncos he would of been a starter and obviously more tackles etc
@RayWilliamJohansen Saying that Aldon Smith is better than Von Miller is just your personal opinion. If Smith was better than Miller, the majority of people would agree with you and Miller wouldn't have won the Defensive Rookie of the Year vote by 39-to-11.
@jonmark93 YES bot so is von miller being defensive rookie of the year. And not just that but look at philip rivers, he went to the pro bowl and he played awful.
@RayWilliamJohansen You can't compare the Pro Bowl to AP Awards. Philip Rivers may have been named to the "Pro Bowl" but he wasn't an AP 2011 All Pro. Von Miller was an AP 2011 All Pro.
@jonmark93 yes but that does not mean they are right either way arguing about this is pointless. Unless you take into account that aldon helped the 49ers get to the qb something they have struggled him and helped them in the running game and not allow a running back score a touchdown in 15 weeks i believe.
@RayWilliamJohansen It is pointless. I think Von Miller deserved to be the 2011 DRoY and think think Aldon Smith did. Let's leave it at that. Enjoy the game tonight.
@RayWilliamJohansen Do you have any idea how much easier it is to get sacks when Patrick Willis and Justin Smith are both getting extra attention prior to the snap? Aldon Smith had a great year, but he's only a third-down edge rusher at this point. Von is a lot more complete.
@knicksown427 aldon had more sacks even though he played fewer snaps WAY less snaps than von miller. Dont get me wrong miller is okay but aldon smith would of gotten way more sacks.
@RayWilliamJohansen I could just as easily argue that Von would've been more productive if he was on the field with All-Pro's like Patrick Willis and Justin Smith (who are both specifically gameplanned around). Not to mention Aldon has yet to show the same kind of ability in run support or coverage.
Bottom line: you have to be pretty damn one-dimensional if you only see the field on third down.
@knicksown427 like I said aldon smith is better because he had FEWER snaps and he had more sacks. So you can say he is more effective but hey maybe next year with a year under his belt he will get even better.
"Bottom line: you have to be pretty damn one-dimensional if you only see the field on third down. "
Exactly.
How great can you really be if you have the best defensive linemen in the league next to you (Justin Smith is a monster) who commands double teams and only play on 3rd down???
Aldon Smith a great pass-rusher.
Von is great football player. He tackles, pressures and covers unlike any rookie in the last 15 years.
That is not true. Aldon Smith saw the field more than just on 3rd down, he just wasnt a starter. He was a DE in college, so why would the coaching staff make him a full time starter when he hasnt even had a off-season to learn the position because of the lockout? They put him in the best position to contibute as a rookie, but that does not mean he is a 1 dimensional player. He was unblockable at times, he just has to learn te mental aspect of reading the play as a OLB in a 3-4
@RayWilliamJohansen He definitely was a valuable pass-rusher, but he wasn't a big reason why they were so good against the run. Having an elite 3-4 DE (J. Smith), the best ILB in football (P-Willie), a guy who's solely in the lineup to stop the run (Parys Haralson), etc. are the main reason. Again, Aldon is only brought in on third-down.
Regardless, he's going to be a damn good player down the road. Just not as good as Von IMO.
@RayWilliamJohansen Miller had more tackles for loss and was an every down player. He was a key part of Denver's defense as an every-down linebacker that could rush the passer, help against the run and even drop back in pass coverage.
Aldon is a great player but he was just a rotational pass rusher. The 49ers defense could have got along without Smith, the Broncos defense would have been terrible without Miller.
I notice alot his sacks came against teams in the AFC west, teams with bad pass protection. If you look at Aldon Smiths highlights you'll see him get sacks on almost every team the 49ers played lol...

Pro Football Focus is great.
The game is not just about who had the most sacks.
Pressures, hits & hurries all make an impact on the QB.
Not to mention Von Miller's play vs. the run which was spectacular.

"like I said aldon smith is better because he had FEWER snaps and he had more sacks"
If he was "better" why would the 49ers keep him off the field during 1st and 2nd down dipshit???
I'll tell you why, because he wasn't that good vs. the run.
Don't make it difficult. If a player doesn't play on certain downs, the team is trying to protect a weakness in his game. Simple.
That's why he had FEWER snaps.
Get it?
