  • I actually find this particular vocal track a bad example because there are no real sibilant sounds like S or strong Ts. My adaptation below really keeps those in control while bringing out a wonderful air around the vocal. I have even tried it with a real pultec and 1176, but the Waves SSL and BF 1176 do an excellent job by where I can put my hardware to other tasks. See below for my recipe. BTE, I never really understood the need for creating a master vocal fader. To exite the sends I guess...

  • Nice trick. I have adapted it a tad differently. I dont create a master vocal fader. I just group the exiter and vocal track. I leave the sends and FX on the vocal track so that delay or reverb (for example) do not have the excess brightness. On the exiter I cut everything below 10K with a 1 band EQ and boost 16k all the way on the SSL and follow that with an 1176 at 20:1. I set the threshold where there is only compression on sibilant sounds (S, T, TH F etc). I still eq the vocal track to taste

  • very cool, thankx

  • Great info thx!!

  • please tell me what screen recording software you used and how did you get it to record system sound in pro tools

  • хуйня полнейшая

  • Thanks for the tip, I guess I've been doing in it instinctively but watching your video will remind me that vocals can be enhanced this way quite conveniently.

  • Genies

  • We are all going to look back at auto tune in 20 years and laugh that we actually used it. Sort of like Bell Bottoms. Everyone thought they were cool when they were wearing them but look back at old pictures and say wow, what the F was I wearing.

The Pro Tools lesson was very cool though!

  • Decent tutorial, mediocre auto-tuning & vocoding, creepster lyrics. Appreciate the information, but the lyrics were borderline creepy the first time I heard it, and definitely creepy by the end.

Will try to see what I can do with your technique though, I have been looking to emulate some kind of preamp harmonic gain.

  • but if I'm rapping voice quality than pro tools than quality voice

  • how did u make that path??? on 1:45???? please help me thanks!!!

  • It doesn't sound 'purty' it sounds devoid of any real pitch or volume dynamics.

  • Exciter? I barely even knower!

  • Stalker lyrics LOL ha ha ha ha ha!!

  • @groove3Inc I love 7 it's fast and stable as hell

  • @highmilescreator does it echo when you have your head up ur ass?

  • @highmilescreator Anything in Pro Tools 7 is very easy to directly relate to pro tools 8 - 9. in the words of the flight of the concords: "Be more constructive with your feedback"

  • stalker theme music wit a porno beat poW

  • thanks for the tips

  • I never understand about sending buses to a auxilary track then it already sounds good already so can i get the explaination of the aux track

  • Pretty cool. Nice when people take the time to help others learn. :-)

  • How did you duplicate the effect and compressor to the other track? what did you do to get that? I'm still learning pro tools.

  • How do you get to that window you opened up at the 1:46 mark the bus path window?

  • Didn't realise woody allen was a sound engineer

  • dat was exellent bro. good tip!!

  • how do you get auto tune in protools

  • @BarritoneBoi You'll need to buy an external plug in, it isnt included in Pro Tools M-Powered or LE. Dont know about HD...

  • thanks dude that was tight.. u been do this 4 a minute i can tell

  • is that vocal exciter a plugin and how do i get it if it is? i have pro tools 8

  • @iluvtrance69 That comment was ignorant and unnecessary

  • Hey thanks a lot man

  • Nice video, just wish people would use the actual name of aux which is auxiliaries :D

  • Cool trick! Makes me sound sexy! hahaha

  • How did you duplicate your effects?

  • @DavidLMedeiros93 Hold down option and drag and drop

  • Comment removed

  • @DavidLMedeiros93 just click and drag your effect while holding down the option/alt key

  • @DavidLMedeiros93 alt drag

  • this is gon be fun

  • wouldn't it be the same if u tweaked the high frequencies in the original vocals??

  • very nice, sir!

  • How do you get that effect used by artists like Katy Perry where they bring the vocal pitch all the way down super fast but with a guitar track?

  • How can i use waves vocal bundle in pro tools? i have it on my pc...but i can't seem to find a vst plugin folder in pro tools

  • This is really helpful! thanks my dude!

  • im excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha serial killer lyrics.

  • @MayonaiseKing100 lol that shit had me laughing!

  • @MayonaiseKing100 lmao! true story.

  • This method is only worth it if you apply other effects to the "high eq" channel like phaser or flanger, otherwise what's the advantage over using a multi-band compressor? You will get the same result because you are doing the same thing - compressing only a specific frequency range (in this case the highs).

    Am I missing something here?

  • This was really helpful :) Thanks

  • Great lil trick. I like this one

  • great tute, dude, and the music is very fresh, very now (very O.M.G./will.i.am)

  • nice tutorial...fyi bypassing the insert does not reduce delay...u must make the track inactive.

  • @GeraldProductions80 that's why he added em :)

  • easier just to buy an aural exciter LOL :)

  • Fuck g snap. Antres or whatever you call it is the best autotune yes it i use it :)

  • Awesome vid. Similar to a "NY drum trick" parallel compression technique for drums, but with vocals. I've actually done this same type of thing a lot for every type of sound including vocals, just with a hi-pass filter and a saturator or tube drive effect instead of compression and a hi-shelf boost. Even tried something similar with re-amping vocals before with great results. Gonna try this one out with the hard compression for sure!

  • alotta producers and rappers these days sound like they use exciters - as well as autotune of course - but this vid is sick - i find the effect very crispy for vocals. nice job!

  • NO MATTER WHERE U RUN , THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOO COOL , no its not , im sorry u failed

  • i lost interest when i autotune BS

  • reeallllllllly realllllly realllllllly helpful tip!

That song cracked me up too :P

  • thanks alot! glad you had this video cause i had no clue what "exciter" meant before.

  • i record my vocals in mono then add

    eq

    compresion

    and few other stuff

then duplicate the track and pan L n R

im still a new at pro tools

any one got any advise for me is this a right way to do so ?

  • @moneyoverbitchez1 panning left and right won't actually do anything unless the signal is different. It will be just like mono because you are hearing the same thing left and right. This would work very nicely on double tracked vocals or "doubled" vocals (done with an effect). Just my two cents

  • Vocals should always be mono and in the center. in real life your singer isn't on opposite ends of the stage so why should your mix?

  • this was real helpful. thanks!!

  • This is awesome! Thanks!

  • Great video! Thanks!

  • thanks for the tip. Great video!!!

  • i saw this dvd By Kenny Gioia ...good stuff.
