  • Hi I am brand new. I am artistic but have never done this. What would you say should I buy for to learn this? What type/brand fire and glass. Thankx so much Ross!BTW do you sell these? How much do you charge say.. for a "set"?

  • @paulasmits You can Google "Lampworking Supplies" for a whole list of on-line suppliers. For beadmaking glass I usually buy from Frantz Art Glass - frantzartglass(dot)com. Be sure to check out the torch kits to see what kind of stuff you will need to get started. You should buy "The Complete Book of Glass Beadmaking" by Kimberly Adams. It will clue you into all the stuff you will need. I'm not currently selling my beads. This is my hobby and I do it for fun.

  • Very well done demo. I appreciate that you took the time and effort to show us how the bead would look if you had stopped at each step. It can be very difficult to see details in the flame so this part was especially helpful. Thank you.

  • Thanks -

I Have been doing stained glass work for decades, I had never thought of making beads until I saw some of your vids.

  • I make all my own stringers. Check out my Ribbon Cane and Twisty Stringer Video. The audio is really low but I think you can still get the concept. Stringers are fun and easy to make, no need to buy them.

  • did you make that stringer or did you order it?

  • Hey

where to buy all tools and material needed for all of this

    thank you

  • Try a Google search on Frantz Art Glass or ABR Imagery or Generations Glass. There are many others also.

  • WoW! Thanks for all the great info you have helped me out so much. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks so much. I am a new person to flamework with about 12-15 hours of instruction and glass time. I find these videos so helpful and know when I move away from my teacher and set up my own studio space that they will be invaluable to my continuing education. Are there links to any other videos you have made?

  • As a beginner, I wish you could show us, all the things that beginners, with a Hothead, do wrong. A basic video, on how to get a nice round bead. Thank you so much for all the videos, you have already posted.

  • Very informative! Thank you so much.

  • Ross... your video's are a great! I wasn't taught to start my base as a disc... it really makes a difference in the finished bead ends. Any more coming?

    Karen

  • I am starting flameworking soon and I have a good feeling that I am going to be able to recreate your beads just because of how good your explinations are. thank you so much. Simply amazing.

  • Too cool. Didn't know how beads were made. Will appreciate it even more next time I go to my local gem and bead fair. You must have had a lot of practice.

  • Outstanding work!! Love your videos.

  • good job Ross I thought it was excellant. Dave

  • Ross, I just want to say that you have the best beadmaking videos in YouTube. Thanks so much... You are incredibly artistic....

  • super gemachte videos, habe schon viel gelernt. danke dir sehr und ich freue mich auf alles neue von dir

  • Ross, wow is all I can say. I have learned so much more then any books I bought! I am dyslexic and its really hard to learn from a book. I have been able to do each bead you shown! Thanks A Million!

  • Thank-You very much. That is quite a compliment. I have slight ADD but you have probably already figured that out.... hahaha

    ~R

  • Thank you very much indeed for sharing your knowledge ! it's unusual nowadays !

  • You are so generous with your time. Thank you so much! These are wonderful. I'm learning so much!

  • i just got into the art of glass blowing last week. how do u make the bead not stick to the stick? i tried to make one but its stuck to the stick. any tips would be awesome. thanks

  • I use stainless steel rods that I have coated in "bead release". I use a product called Sludge Plus but there are many good products out there. Foster Fire is a good one too.

    ~Ross

  • what COE glass do you use and by what company? oh also what mm and composite of glass(like boro or what?)sry for the improper grammar ahead but im kinda confused At the moment

  • I use COE 104 (soft-glass) for all my beads. Brands vary, usually Moretti/Effetre, Lauscha (my favorite clear glass) and Vetrofond.

    ~R

  • WOW...i use the same COE and Lauscaha...LOL!!

  • Ross, what is the melting point temp for Moretti soft glass?

  • Just when it goes from dark red to bright red... <grin>. I think your working temperature is somthing like @ 1300F to 1700F. I think the surface of the bead can become tacky, meaning it can stick to another bead, inside of the kiln or slump if held at 1000F for too long, so that might be the technical "melting point". Hope that helps ~R

  • Thank you so much Ross... So far I have only used Pyrex (very high melting point) so this is definitely better...

  • Thanks, I'll have to get some of that. Can you give me a step-by-step process on how to make something very easy. I recently got some glass tubes and I don't know how to make anything. thanks

    Nathan

  • Nathan, Tubing is much harder to work than solid rod. I am working on a set-up to video some solid borosilicate glass and maybe some tubing but it will be a while. You should google Freeman Corbin's Essential Lampworking videos. They are professionally done and very good.

    ~R

  • actually it is not glass blowing=) it is actually called flameworking or if you perfer lampworking. glass blowing is when you actually blow into a glass bulb to inflate it(usually on a large scale with a furncace)

  • Ross: Because of vidios like yours I am learning far more than a book can tell me. Thank you so much for your efforts! Your vids are easy to understand.

  • Ross,

Thanks once again. Very good instruction.

  • Love your work great job!!!
