I once saw a flush this big from under two pine trees in Nebraska. They flew so tight together they looked like a huge flock of pigeons and we couldn't pick out the roosters from the hens. Shame to see a couple hundred birds get up 30ft away and not feel comfortable taking a shot.
I used to live in Saint francis SD. I loved pheasant hunting, now, here in Pa. we just have tame pheasants that are government raised and to stupid to fly. they all die by the next year!
I've only hunted pheasant twice and that was in N.D. just above the S.D. line. I'm planning on going back out west again next year. Shooting birds on the Plains get in your blood. I just hope the bird numbers hold up.
we see mass flushes a lot when we go hunting, this year we mainly saw tem in big bushes, abandoned farms with dense thickets and trees and believe it or not in the soy one time this year. it almost hurts to see that many go when your a hunter lol
when went it was hard the first few days, then we went south of mansville, cresbard, nd chelsea and over west we would get our limit every day. farmers started taking down soy and corn but it rained two days in a row so if its rained farmers are still backed. and also a lot f birds came out of crp, we groundpounded a lot that just stood there
They often flush out of range. That's why 3 per day is considered good hunting. I've gotten my limit in an hour and a half, and other days I've walked 8 miles and killed one.
yeah pheasants are very cagey, if they have no cover theyll fly or run into corn or soybean or run dowwn the ence row and by the time you get ot of the car theyll either be gone or too far too shoot,
sorry to be to a big head . in the uk 3 per day would be boys game. try 500 or 600 per day with 8 guns or if you have got some dollars try 2000 per day 8 guns.
no they dont throw them of towers.. they fly up to 60 to 85 yards high from valley to valley out of woodland.must be good for warner bros to shoot there.and no we dont hunt them we drive them.
mistwit what do yo no about hunting i have shot in theUS AND UK if you call that hunting shooting pheasant up the ass you are wrong try driven pheasants from 60 to 85 yards high from valley to valley.
Its apples vs. oranges. I realize the English estate hunts are great events. However in the U.S. it's not necessary that you be wealthy to be a hunter, just that you have the ability to walk up to 9 miles a day and hit wild rooster pheasants.
What is duck hunting like in the U.K. Are there limits on the number you can kill? Also, is market hunting still allowed?
Wow. Thats all I can say...

This video shows the value of even just a small piece of CRP with NWSG. Its probably holding all the birds within a square mile.

So the numbers in SD are good this year?
Have the farmers pulling their land out of the CRP had much effect?

Yes but you are "shooting" pheasants. Here in the U.S. we HUNT them.
( No offense intended, I have great respect for British shotgunners )
