  • actually, I played this game and it has probably some of the best in game items you have ever seen... plus, the maxed out upgraded weapons are extremely useful..

here's a few recommandations, use a Maxed out whip on Slimes in the sewers, or even frogs if you have great accuracy, the slime dies in 1 hit without EVER multiplying!! and the frogs die in 1 or 2 hits depending on the colour..

also, for monsters that run through the walls, use dynamites. it kills them in 1 hit and keeps them off you.

  • damn this game sucked

  • According to an interview from Blaster Master creator Yoshiaki Iwata, the character designer is the same in that game as in this one. I mean, I knew the gun and navigation systems were about the same, but GEEZ, the enemies too!? Those frogs are pretty much mini versions of the Blaster Master boss 4/7, and the pulsing things on the ground are like a smaller boss 1.

Have you no shame, guy I don't know!?

  • which emulator did you use? mine crashes at first boss :(

  • Thought this was ok. Uncle Fester was always my favorite.

  • @rang3r34

Mine too and Christopher Lloyd was terrific as him in the films, i grew up with the old Addams Family show when they had reruns back in the 80s

  • I was 9 when i played this game and thought it was fun, not that bad as the nerd suggested

  • I didn't get this game when I was little. Still don't. Actually it might make less sense now.

  • I used to shoot to the music too, so that was pretty awesome.

  • I think this game is a little underrated.

The music is fucking outstanding, the bosses are cool.... i liked this game as a kid.

too bad the weapons are horrible, annoying enemies, enemies spawning endlessly etc.. It's a shame really

  • I USED to think this game was sort of a wishy washy game but fir reason i luved ieet.

  • i loved this game as a kid hard as hell commercial even tells you its hard

  • I remember this game being the most annoying ggame in the world

  • I laughed at the part where you were "playing" along to the music with the gun.

  • I hated that ball gun thing.

  • This game is nothing like i remember. Its crazy

  • Fister's Quest.

  • When fighting the 1st alien Boss, use your invisible potion to avoid losing a life and then set the menu on TNT and then walk into the alien and you can set the TNT's off 1 after another nearly instantly.

  • SOMEONE SEND THIS TO AVGN!!!!!!

  • 9:06 sounds like Rising force of yngwee Malmsteens

  • Oh yeah! This is my favorite video game of all-time!!!! <3!

  • I didn't have that much NES games when i was kid, i don't remember many of them, just Duck Hunt and Super Marios, but i found my old NES yesterday and this game, i was like "What the hell is this game? I don't remember wtf is this" i woulda so connected that to my tv but i didn't find the controller anywhere. ):

Memories... I remember all the sounds though :D

  • I didn't have that much NES games when i was kid, i don't remember many of them, just Duck Hunt and Super Marios, but i found my old NES yesterday and this game, i was like "What the hell is this game? I don't remember wtf is this" i woulda so connected that to my tv but i didn't find the controller anywhere. ):

    Memories...

  • One of my first two games I had as a kid. Other was Dino Riki. I had those parents who were like hey if you beat this game Ill buy you another one. Unfortunetly I never beat either of them, my parents must of did their research before purchasing them lol. Both extremely hard games now that I look back at it. This brings back so many memories.

  • This game was hard, but when i did get used to it, i finished it 2 times =) Yeah waste of time but what you would not do when you are 13y old back in 90's with no more games to play ;)

  • I got NES for a christmas present at the age of 8 or so with SMB + fester's quest!!! This is the second NES game I ever cleared. The first being SMB of course.

  • I love how you fire your gun in time with the music. I definitely know the feeling of playing a game so much that you know the music inside and out.

  • This game was hard to play but I loved it

  • I remember such sounds before! I heard them from "Blaster Master", I own and beat that game, many times. I think this game is a ripoff of "Blaster Master". The creator/creators of "Blaster Master" should sue the person/people who designed that game.

  • @dafranx

I hope you are being sarcastic, otherwise you're a moron. This game and Blaster Master were made by the same people. Reusing sound effects was common with developers back in the day.

  • @kingboobs20

Actually, it seems the entire game engine was lifted from Blaster Master's overhead view. Which is not a bad thing, it works.

  • Sucky or not, some music tracks are catchy to me.

  • was this rendered in stereo sound?

  • @kucoru16 The NES is not naturally capable of stereo. Mono only.

  • I have memories of playing this game non stop with my mom.. we would play for hours n hours.. never could beat it... i was 7 and she was a mom.. cmon.. shes not gnna beat it.. i love this game..

  • I remember playing this game, was one of my favourites.

  • Seriously so strange that I kept this game in the back of my memory from when I was like 7. Seeing it now feels like a few years ago and i'm 25.

  • worst piece of shit ever made :D

  • Wait, if you're playing this on an emulator, explain how you go into the buildings? When I do try to go in, the game resets itself as if I was killed (because I start off at the same weapon level I had originally).

  • had no idea they made turbo nes controllers

  • Fester's Quest for president 2012

  • @TheTechThug Good Idea!

  • how in the fuck i change my fucking weapon weapon?????? that OMG bullshit

  • I want to find the lead designers of this game and kick them in the balls with a steel-toed work boot. What were they thinking!

  • Hahaha, I like when you're "humming" along to the sewer tune with your gun at 8:41. Fester's Quest had some really good tunes, like pretty much all other Sunsoft games on the NES (Journey to Silius, Blaster Master). There were some pretty lame parts of the game, such as being almost required to use a turbo controller or suffer carpal tunnel, guns not functioning correctly in the sewers and the unrelenting screen-spawning enemies, but I still loved this game.

  • The music is Kick Ass! SunSoft used the DPCM Channel for the Bass Line, That was an incredibily clever idea!

  • I used to love this game! The goonies II was another favorite. Man o man I miss the original Nintendo. Some of these games were really unique.

  • I have the fucking frogs >_<

  • the opening used to scare the living fuck out of me when i was a kid. still kinda does.

  • I've never gotten to 6 mins in this game LOL But yes it is fun enough.

  • Just by this video, I realized the frogs in this game are just smaller versions of the frog bosses from Blaster Master. Hahahaha. Wow. Oh, Sunsoft. I still love you.

  • LOL when i was a kid i could never understand this game! and still dont ...however even this game fuckin owns the pokemon garbage i see my cousin playin these days or that naruto shit

  • Lol, Sivak strikes again. I was searching randomly for a Fester's Quest video to share on Facebook for all my non-NES enthusiast (read:99% of) friends and found Sivak! My bro and I are going to attack this game again soon I think. Never beat it as a kid, got close though. Tried once more a few months back and got frustrated. Won't let this one get the best of us tho! ^_^

  • yeah guys remember james does his nerd reviews for comedy this game i like this game its mostly know for its difficulty but i like this and the zelda esque addams family values on the snes

  • ha i could barely get to the 1st boss and then all of a sudden i got to the last boss =/

  • It's Hilarious how at 8:48 the mice even squeak to the beat of the song xD!!!!! Man i miss this game my Nintendo busted years back and it was impossible to find another so we had sold the games......I'll probably never play this again -_- ;

  • This game really made no sense. Maybe I just loved it as a kid cuz it had Fester and he ruled.

  • I thought it was funny how you synched your shots to the music. LOL

  • Loved the boss music of this game. :)

  • I didn't see any item picked up @ 6:09 to increase the health bar. What's up with that?

  • You need to literally run into the wall and that gives you the health box.

  • Well hot damn! & I was thinking that @ 1st, but I was like Naaah, it can't be that offbeat. Apparently it is.

  • Men, you're a hero!

  • The best and hardest nes.

  • nah silver surfer for the nes

  • Nah, Battletoads for the nes.

  • you fired your weapon in sync with the sewer music, it made me lol and reminded me that I used to do the same damn thing.

  • oh what a bad game; and at a time when you got a new game every few months at the most...oh, i was pissed. still, the music is still some of the best of any nes game. oldskool sunsoft had some freakin' rad composers!

  • dam its been years scene i played this game

  • lol i love the way how you fired the gun in tune of the soundtrack

no one's ever done that before

  • From AVGN's review on this game:

    (I give credit for these)

"So there's Uncle fucking Fester, sitting outside, minding his own business, then aliens come down. well, that's the plot of the game. Fester's gotta save the world from aliens. It happened to the Simpsons, why not the Addams Family? Makes much more sense as Tim Allen fighting dinosaurs."

lol My opinion: The game may not be that good, but the music's kinda catchy.

  • lol I love how at 8:42 you start firing your weapon in tune with the soundtrack. That made me smile. :D

  • Nice vid :D

too bad i didn't realize you can buy hot dogs @>@

  • the music is surprisingly.... serious....

  • Fester was like ''WTF''

  • you idiot to use the light bulb in the sewers you have to press start, then select light bulb with your directional button and then back out and press A

  • this game was so fucking hardddd...

    and boring

  • This game sucks.... I used to play it as a kid.... I hated it.

  • It's crappy and it's kooky

    A stupid piece of poopy

    I'd rather eat my dookie

    It makes me wanna pee

    It makes me wanna see-a

    Load of diarrhea

    It's worse than gonorrhea

    I'm gonna take that pee

  • @boredtaco You could at least give credit to the avgn b4 ripping off his shit dude

  • @boredtaco lol it was good. it was a decent game. it was so damn hard, which made it kinda cool

  • lol I didn't even know how to turn the lights on in the sewer.

  • 9:09 damn I remember playing this when i was 10 never got past this bit as I kept turning it off as the boss scared the shit out of me

  • that boss is very similar to the second boss in blaster master.

  • I remember that i bought a nintendo power magazine (or whatever the swedish name was) and read about this game, but somehow, i managed to buy it first.

Anyways, they described it as a very exiting game, and very good too, but nothing about the whole impossible thing...

  • One thing i noticed, is when the bosses are defeated and blow up, it sounds alot like Blaster Master, which is of no surprise, Since BM was made by Sunsoft as well.

Although i cant remember which of these 2 games came out first.

  • Blaster Master came out in 1988 and Fester's Quest 1989.

  • Isn't it so hard to believe that such a good game (Blaster Master) came out of sunsoft, yet they also released this abomination? They sure know how to make them hard. Blaster Master was pretty dang hard, on the verge of being impossible even. But the controls were awesome, the music was great. The game its self was awesome all around.

Fester's Quest wasn't so great. Music's pretty good but beyond that. It's horrible.

  • pew, ty man!

  • underrated game

  • its really fun, i think.

    but hard...

    sooo hard

  • That intro sequence scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. That scary-face Fester does near the end still haunts me to this day.

  • See, as a child I loved this game and when I got older I didn't understand all the hate aimed at it. Then I discovered that this was because I had been playing the PAL version in which the fancy swirling shots don't disappear when they hit the wall next to you. You know, now that you can just easily download a ROM, I reckon everyone should stop bitching and play the PAL version, because as far as I can tell the dodgy bullets were the only thing making this hard.

  • what a shit game this was

  • Does this game has very ugly bosses?

  • I think you missed one of the houses- gives you the potion. I couldn't beat the game without it! Might have missed the invisible one too (I haven't watched past this part)

Good use of TNT though- I almost never used it.

  • If I had played this game it might have put me off 20 more years of playing games.

  • Thanks man! I hated this game as a kid. Sooooo frustrating. Glad to see someone mastered this motherfucker.

  • this is like the overhead game of master blaster

  • Why is Fester barefoot at the beginning of the video? Doesn't he wear big black leather boots?

  • The flies that slow u down were irritating.

They must've flew up Fester's butt to slow him down.

Game was not great but at least mentionable...

  • This Game is AWESOME!

  • LOL this game is underrated, i had this game and thought it was pretty fun.

  • Played this alot when I was 6 years old. Now I play it with nes and emulator :D

  • i remember havin this game as a kid

i also remember walkin around aimlessly and being confused as hell lol

and if i had saw that boss as a kid i woulda been scared sh!tless

  • OK now I can finally add myself to the short list of people who actually beat this game after having the main boss for breakfast!

  • I beat this as well, it was a bitch. This has to be ranked with one of the toughest games to beat. Still in book Battletoads and Ghostbusters were some of the hardest.

  • Hey! This was the game we rented many years ago. I've been stumped on what the title was ever since. Finally.

  • I could never beat that first boss

  • wow you mustve had a lot of patients to play this game

  • very difficult game

  • i was never able to finish this game

  • one of the few games i could NOT beat...

  • Neither could I except there was a glitch in my game that kept me from beating it.

  • god this game takes me back..i love old school shit like this

  • is this blaster master?

  • God, how I hated this game. -.- It just pissed me off so much. I'm so glad I traded this in, along with some other crappy ones, to get TMNT Tournament Fighters for SNES. =)

  • That is the fastest time I have someone ever beat that boss. :|

Why didn't you get the potion from the hand?

  • God DAMN this was frustrating game. Thank god somebody has/had patience to complete this. I've always wanted to see ending. X(

  • hehehehe im no fool hahaha this game has the same affects like blaster master lol nice playing sir or miss =]

  • this game was hella hard 4 me

  • google, NES emulator and download from the site, it redy to play right there, BUT now google Festers Quest as NES and download that open each other up and play BINGO BANGO im right into pirated games

  • Tell me the site you downloaded this rom and emulator on.

  • I prefer the review by Angry Video Game Nerd.

... I've never actually played this, though, but from what I've seen, it looks like an awful, awful game.

  • it's not really that bad. it's along the same lines as simon's quest. if you can get past the quirks, it's a fun game overall has quite an adventurous appeal.

  • yeah my brother usta pop in the ole game genie for this one and we'd stay up all night playin lol i was like 4 or 5 and watchin him taught me how to play video games, man those were the days....

  • omg i used to play this game as a kid, i never knew what i was doing though, lol

  • This brings back memories! Great game, but it sucks big starting all over when you die. I can't count how many times I went through this game, dying constantly at the bosses, until I figured out to beat each one. The boss battles were epic though. I only got to the last boss on the NES, but never beat it until I emulated it on my pc.

  • I was able to make the last enemy, but that was after draining all of my potion and invisible potion. This game takes about three hours to beat.

  • For whatever reason when I was a kid I hated smoking and smokers....and thought that the pink frogs were spitting cigarette ashes of some sort

  • For some reason, the frogs of green and pink variety remind me of jason's frog fred when he attacks... I used to have this, but I was a fool to sell it.

  • That's because the frogs were an homage to Blaster Master. Blaster Master & Fester's Quest were made by the same company.

  • Its a very bad game >:-(

  • not bad...just very hard

  • the music is sweet in this game you gotta admit that!

  • this game's a bitch to beat...i had to use invincibility/invisibility to beat the last level....and every gun is useless except for the best gun u can get (the 3 arrows or whatever u wanna call them)

  • lol i found an emulator that made me PERMANENTLY invincible so i thought i wasn't worthy of making it to the end XD

  • my grandpa did like years ago, it looked like it was a b*tch to do now im trying and it is.

  • So he used auto-fire. Big deal. Not everyone is as good in videogames as some of you annoying eletists are.

  • Dang, still haven't seen one run where someone has the skill to even beat this game w/o auto-fire. Not one..

  • It'd be harder, but it wouldn't take more skill. You know, like, mowing the lawn with your teeth would be harder than mowing with a lawn mower, but doing so doesn't mean you're any more skilled at mowing lawns. The reason you don't see anyone play this game without auto-fire is because it doesn't command that kind of patience. Seriously, it's tedious even WITH auto-fire!

  • Neh, the reason nobody's done a run is cuz nobody's good enough. You can easily beat this game w/o auto-fire w/o ever getting your gun past level 4, and you won't have to slow down anywhere. If you're good enough. Patience has nothing to do with it. I had a run up but the picture quality sucked so I took it down.

  • WoW! Did that boss flip off Fester?

Just look at where Fester defeats the alien, it looks the alien flipped him off, while dying. I find that boss battle great, but they could of improved this game.

  • even with the turbo button this game.... "Sucks ASS and im gonna give it the finger.... the middle finger" AVGN!

  • lol AVGN got cheated he sucked at this game

  • all the games he reviews r hard as hell games

  • Love the soundtrack for this game.

  • you know the boss theme is from that weird monster game were you try to kill the Power puff girls

you can check it on newgrounds

  • Contra! :D

  • Yeah, it's pretty awesome xD

  • SUNSOFT again reusing the Blaster Master over head level engine. They used it in Gremlins 2 as well. They don't even bother to change the sounds of the weapons hehe.

  • Yea, this game does suck, i 2nd you fofl25

  • Man, this game was ALL THAT.

I also used to play with turbo on all the time via the old-school Nintendo Satellite. Anyone remember those?

  • what was the nintendo sattellite?????

  • This was an awesome game, I just hated that everytime you died, no matter how far along you are, you always start back at the begining. A save feature would've been nice too.

  • I used to own this game. And it wasn't that bad of a game, but it gave my thumb hell before I got the whip. So. Much. Button. Mashing.

I was worried I'd grow up with carpal tunnel.

  • I remember getting this game thinking it will be like Blaster Master. Although disappointed at first, I eventually grew to liking this game alot. Blaster Master is still a better game.

  • The frogs got exported to blastermaster =)

  • FROM Blaster Master

  • and why didn't u just get the final gun upgrade in the very beginning? meaning go around killing enemies until u get the strongest gun...would have made your life a lot easier

  • I had to use cheats on the emulator to beat this game...i honestly never beat it when i played it on the cartridge because it was too hard

  • STFU (sarcastic) n00b! this game sux!

  • When i heard that fester's quest was based on adams family (i could not see adams family up of fester's quest logo), i got pissed off. The avgn is going to rant on it i hope.

  • Dont you miss the old days of games where the game itself made absolutely no sense whatsoever but was still fun? I miss those days....

  • i'm playing it again on an emulator.. i played better when i was 9

  • such a frustrating game.. i gave up after a while... especially in that damn hotel like thing with the maze walls.. plus starting all the way back to the beginning when you died. mkovacs

  • I cannot believe I used to own this piece of crap game. Angry Video Game Nerd; please review this crappy game. :D

  • One of the coolest NES games. I did hate going so far and then dying and have to travel all that way again. The music was pretty good too. I wish somebody could remix the boss music. That would be tight!
