actually, I played this game and it has probably some of the best in game items you have ever seen... plus, the maxed out upgraded weapons are extremely useful..
here's a few recommandations, use a Maxed out whip on Slimes in the sewers, or even frogs if you have great accuracy, the slime dies in 1 hit without EVER multiplying!! and the frogs die in 1 or 2 hits depending on the colour..
also, for monsters that run through the walls, use dynamites. it kills them in 1 hit and keeps them off you.
According to an interview from Blaster Master creator Yoshiaki Iwata, the character designer is the same in that game as in this one. I mean, I knew the gun and navigation systems were about the same, but GEEZ, the enemies too!? Those frogs are pretty much mini versions of the Blaster Master boss 4/7, and the pulsing things on the ground are like a smaller boss 1.
When fighting the 1st alien Boss, use your invisible potion to avoid losing a life and then set the menu on TNT and then walk into the alien and you can set the TNT's off 1 after another nearly instantly.
I didn't have that much NES games when i was kid, i don't remember many of them, just Duck Hunt and Super Marios, but i found my old NES yesterday and this game, i was like "What the hell is this game? One of my first two games I had as a kid. Other was Dino Riki. I had those parents who were like hey if you beat this game Ill buy you another one. Unfortunetly I never beat either of them, my parents must of did their research before purchasing them lol. Both extremely hard games now that I look back at it. This brings back so many memories.
This game was hard, but when i did get used to it, i finished it 2 times =) Yeah waste of time but what you would not do when you are 13y old back in 90's with no more games to play ;)
I got NES for a christmas present at the age of 8 or so with SMB + fester's quest!!! This is the second NES game I ever cleared. The first being SMB of course.
I remember such sounds before! I heard them from "Blaster Master", I own and beat that game, many times. I think this game is a ripoff of "Blaster Master". The creator/creators of "Blaster Master" should sue the person/people who designed that game.
I hope you are being sarcastic, otherwise you're a moron. This game and Blaster Master were made by the same people. Reusing sound effects was common with developers back in the day.
I have memories of playing this game non stop with my mom.. we would play for hours n hours.. never could beat it... i was 7 and she was a mom.. cmon.. shes not gnna beat it.. i love this game..
Wait, if you're playing this on an emulator, explain how you go into the buildings? When I do try to go in, the game resets itself as if I was killed (because I start off at the same weapon level I had originally).
Hahaha, I like when you're "humming" along to the sewer tune with your gun at 8:41. Fester's Quest had some really good tunes, like pretty much all other Sunsoft games on the NES (Journey to Silius, Blaster Master). There were some pretty lame parts of the game, such as being almost required to use a turbo controller or suffer carpal tunnel, guns not functioning correctly in the sewers and the unrelenting screen-spawning enemies, but I still loved this game.
Just by this video, I realized the frogs in this game are just smaller versions of the frog bosses from Blaster Master. Hahahaha. Wow. Oh, Sunsoft. I still love you.
LOL when i was a kid i could never understand this game! and still dont ...however even this game fuckin owns the pokemon garbage i see my cousin playin these days or that naruto shit
Lol, Sivak strikes again. I was searching randomly for a Fester's Quest video to share on Facebook for all my non-NES enthusiast (read:99% of) friends and found Sivak! My bro and I are going to attack this game again soon I think. Never beat it as a kid, got close though. Tried once more a few months back and got frustrated. Won't let this one get the best of us tho! ^_^
yeah guys remember james does his nerd reviews for comedy this game i like this game its mostly know for its difficulty but i like this and the zelda esque addams family values on the snes
It's Hilarious how at 8:48 the mice even squeak to the beat of the song xD!!!!! Man i miss this game my Nintendo busted years back and it was impossible to find another so we had sold the games......I'll probably never play this again -_- ;
oh what a bad game; and at a time when you got a new game every few months at the most...oh, i was pissed. still, the music is still some of the best of any nes game. oldskool sunsoft had some freakin' rad composers!
"So there's Uncle fucking Fester, sitting outside, minding his own business, then aliens come down. well, that's the plot of the game. Fester's gotta save the world from aliens. It happened to the Simpsons, why not the Addams Family? Makes much more sense as Tim Allen fighting dinosaurs."
lol My opinion: The game may not be that good, but the music's kinda catchy.
you idiot to use the light bulb in the sewers you have to press start, then select light bulb with your directional button and then back out and press A
I remember that i bought a nintendo power magazine (or whatever the swedish name was) and read about this game, but somehow, i managed to buy it first.
Anyways, they described it as a very exiting game, and very good too, but nothing about the whole impossible thing...
One thing i noticed, is when the bosses are defeated and blow up, it sounds alot like Blaster Master, which is of no surprise, Since BM was made by Sunsoft as well.
Although i cant remember which of these 2 games came out first.
Isn't it so hard to believe that such a good game (Blaster Master) came out of sunsoft, yet they also released this abomination? They sure know how to make them hard. Blaster Master was pretty dang hard, on the verge of being impossible even. But the controls were awesome, the music was great. The game its self was awesome all around.
Fester's Quest wasn't so great. Music's pretty good but beyond that. It's horrible.
See, as a child I loved this game and when I got older I didn't understand all the hate aimed at it. Then I discovered that this was because I had been playing the PAL version in which the fancy swirling shots don't disappear when they hit the wall next to you. You know, now that you can just easily download a ROM, I reckon everyone should stop bitching and play the PAL version, because as far as I can tell the dodgy bullets were the only thing making this hard.
I think you missed one of the houses- gives you the potion. I couldn't beat the game without it! Might have missed the invisible one too (I haven't watched past this part)
It's crappy and it's kooky, A stupid piece of poopie, I'd rather eat my dookie, It makes me wanna pee. Suckin' some ass (Fuck!) Suckin' some balls (Fuck!) Suckin' some balls, suckin' balls, Suckin some ass (Fuck!) It makes me one see a A load of diarrhea, It's worse than gonorrhea, I'm gonna take that pee.
I beat this as well, it was a bitch. This has to be ranked with one of the toughest games to beat. Still in book Battletoads and Ghostbusters were some of the hardest.
God, how I hated this game. -.- It just pissed me off so much. I'm so glad I traded this in, along with some other crappy ones, to get TMNT Tournament Fighters for SNES. =)
google, NES emulator and download from the site, it redy to play right there, BUT now google Festers Quest as NES and download that open each other up and play BINGO BANGO im right into pirated games
it's not really that bad. it's along the same lines as simon's quest. if you can get past the quirks, it's a fun game overall has quite an adventurous appeal.
yeah my brother usta pop in the ole game genie for this one and we'd stay up all night playin lol i was like 4 or 5 and watchin him taught me how to play video games, man those were the days....
This brings back memories! Great game, but it sucks big starting all over when you die. I can't count how many times I went through this game, dying constantly at the bosses, until I figured out to beat each one. The boss battles were epic though. I only got to the last boss on the NES, but never beat it until I emulated it on my pc.
For some reason, the frogs of green and pink variety remind me of jason's frog fred when he attacks... I used to have this, but I was a fool to sell it.
this game's a bitch to beat...i had to use invincibility/invisibility to beat the last level....and every gun is useless except for the best gun u can get (the 3 arrows or whatever u wanna call them)
It'd be harder, but it wouldn't take more skill. You know, like, mowing the lawn with your teeth would be harder than mowing with a lawn mower, but doing so doesn't mean you're any more skilled at mowing lawns. The reason you don't see anyone play this game without auto-fire is because it doesn't command that kind of patience. Seriously, it's tedious even WITH auto-fire!
Neh, the reason nobody's done a run is cuz nobody's good enough. You can easily beat this game w/o auto-fire w/o ever getting your gun past level 4, and you won't have to slow down anywhere. If you're good enough. Patience has nothing to do with it. I had a run up but the picture quality sucked so I took it down.
Just look at where Fester defeats the alien, it looks the alien flipped him off, while dying. I find that boss battle great, but they could of improved this game.
SUNSOFT again reusing the Blaster Master over head level engine. They used it in Gremlins 2 as well. They don't even bother to change the sounds of the weapons hehe.
This was an awesome game, I just hated that everytime you died, no matter how far along you are, you always start back at the begining. A save feature would've been nice too.
I remember getting this game thinking it will be like Blaster Master. Although disappointed at first, I eventually grew to liking this game alot. Blaster Master is still a better game.
and why didn't u just get the final gun upgrade in the very beginning? meaning go around killing enemies until u get the strongest gun...would have made your life a lot easier
When i heard that fester's quest was based on adams family (i could not see adams family up of fester's quest logo), i got pissed off. The avgn is going to rant on it i hope.
such a frustrating game.. i gave up after a while... especially in that damn hotel like thing with the maze walls.. plus starting all the way back to the beginning when you died. mkovacs
One of the coolest NES games. I did hate going so far and then dying and have to travel all that way again. The music was pretty good too. I wish somebody could remix the boss music. That would be tight!
actually, I played this game and it has probably some of the best in game items you have ever seen... plus, the maxed out upgraded weapons are extremely useful..
here's a few recommandations, use a Maxed out whip on Slimes in the sewers, or even frogs if you have great accuracy, the slime dies in 1 hit without EVER multiplying!! and the frogs die in 1 or 2 hits depending on the colour..

it's not really that bad. it's along the same lines as simon's quest. if you can get past the quirks, it's a fun game overall has quite an adventurous appeal.

yeah my brother usta pop in the ole game genie for this one and we'd stay up all night playin lol i was like 4 or 5 and watchin him taught me how to play video games, man those were the days....

omg i used to play this game as a kid, i never knew what i was doing though, lol

This brings back memories! Great game, but it sucks big starting all over when you die. I can't count how many times I went through this game, dying constantly at the bosses, until I figured out to beat each one. The boss battles were epic though. I only got to the last boss on the NES, but never beat it until I emulated it on my pc.

I was able to make the last enemy, but that was after draining all of my potion and invisible potion. This game takes about three hours to beat.

For whatever reason when I was a kid I hated smoking and smokers....and thought that the pink frogs were spitting cigarette ashes of some sort
ddrgeek1987 4 years ago
For some reason, the frogs of green and pink variety remind me of jason's frog fred when he attacks... I used to have this, but I was a fool to sell it.
NESgamer190 4 years ago
That's because the frogs were an homage to Blaster Master. Blaster Master & Fester's Quest were made by the same company.

this game's a bitch to beat...i had to use invincibility/invisibility to beat the last level....and every gun is useless except for the best gun u can get (the 3 arrows or whatever u wanna call them)
mozartsnum1fan 4 years ago
lol i found an emulator that made me PERMANENTLY invincible so i thought i wasn't worthy of making it to the end XD

So he used auto-fire. Big deal. Not everyone is as good in videogames as some of you annoying eletists are.
Squirrel3D 4 years ago 4
Dang, still haven't seen one run where someone has the skill to even beat this game w/o auto-fire. Not one..
phildisma 4 years ago
It'd be harder, but it wouldn't take more skill. You know, like, mowing the lawn with your teeth would be harder than mowing with a lawn mower, but doing so doesn't mean you're any more skilled at mowing lawns. The reason you don't see anyone play this game without auto-fire is because it doesn't command that kind of patience. Seriously, it's tedious even WITH auto-fire!
phynnboi 4 years ago
Neh, the reason nobody's done a run is cuz nobody's good enough. You can easily beat this game w/o auto-fire w/o ever getting your gun past level 4, and you won't have to slow down anywhere. If you're good enough. Patience has nothing to do with it. I had a run up but the picture quality sucked so I took it down.

WoW! Did that boss flip off Fester?
Just look at where Fester defeats the alien, it looks the alien flipped him off, while dying. I find that boss battle great, but they could of improved this game.

SUNSOFT again reusing the Blaster Master over head level engine. They used it in Gremlins 2 as well. They don't even bother to change the sounds of the weapons hehe.

This was an awesome game, I just hated that everytime you died, no matter how far along you are, you always start back at the begining. A save feature would've been nice too.

I used to own this game. And it wasn't that bad of a game, but it gave my thumb hell before I got the whip. So. Much. Button. Mashing.
I was worried I'd grow up with carpal tunnel.

Dont you miss the old days of games where the game itself made absolutely no sense whatsoever but was still fun? I miss those days....

One of the coolest NES games. I did hate going so far and then dying and have to travel all that way again. The music was pretty good too. I wish somebody could remix the boss music. That would be tight!
