One day, I'll buy myself a Volvo. First I want to take my Rolla ts to 200,000 kms (125,000 miles), and than I will buy some fast Volvo, for sure. Still have to go some 122,000 kms before I get there. Whatever interesting Volvo will be on the market in 2014- 2015, that will be it! Enjoy this beautiful machine of yours, greetz.
I love this engine and car. I have one so I know it well from ordinary life. I have S80 T6 with 285hp and It´s very polite car for everyday. Much important than acceleration from 0-100kmh(0-60mph) is average acceleration, which is almost brutal. Especially with BSR or Heico.
Anybody else notice how the acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear going 0-60 is slower than in 3rd gear going from 60-100? The reason for this is because on the automatic volvos, especially the T5/T6, they torque limit 1st and 2nd gear to prevent damage to the transmission... If you were wondering that, now you know!
Thanks, I noticed that too. I was contemplating if the torque limiter is a bad thing or not, but in the end, for every day driving, gears 3 and up are used most anyway. I don't think that the torque limiter is necessary for driving the car by itself, however, if people are pulling a caravan, up hill in 1st and 2nd gear, 440Nm would probably kill the axels and the transmission. I wonder how Polestar's tune would influence the limiter. 330 Hp and 480 Nm is quite a bit.
@Sug4rD I'm almost 100% certain Polestar don't make any changes to the torque limiter since it lies under warranty. And since measures are mostly made in 4th or 5th gear (depending on gearbox), and it's peak figures they state, they get away with it... :P
@wootness3000 Lots of manufacturers do this sort of thing. I think you seriously underestimate how much power 300hp is. It's an incredible amount of energy and to make a transmission that can take that kind of load would be unwieldy and wouldn't fit in this FWD engine bay. If you want a car that doesn't torque limit you, then get the M/T version of the car. M/T are built much stronger anyway...
@imzjustplayin it is. I have a '10 V50 T5 AWD R-Design and its slow as molasses in the first 2 gears, then goes like a bat outta hell in 3rd and 4th. Mind you, this is with a tiny KO4 turbo running under 10 psi... i doubt that it'll break anything lol
thanks for the video. im thinking of getting a t6 s60 when my lease on my audi a4 expires. would you say the s60 is stable going over bumps at high speed and in the rain/snow like an audi quattro? - thats the only thing im worried about
I don't know what you consider high speed, but bumps don't seem to be an issue from my point of view. The stiff suspension does not make it very comfortable, but does help stability in corners and on stretches of smooth highway. Went through a bumpy highway corner with 100 mph where advisory speed is 55 mph, and felt very good. The T6 has standard AWD where the new Haldex system and torq vectoring makes cornering in snow safe and easy. No complaints at all...
@Sug4rD Thanks for the reply. I think im going to get the s60 in red/black like yours. The audi a4 is too common and too boring in comparison. Enjoy your awesome car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, but for the first time that's a Volvo that is powerful enough to make you feel like the brand isn't 'boringly safe' anymore. Anyway, I'll try to post some 0-100 kph video too when mine arrives.
Does anyone know about chip tuning to increase hp? I only know about Heico, they increase the T6 to 330 hp, but the cost is over 2,000 euros...
From what I have heard, Polestar will be offering a 330hp/480nm upgrade in the near future, with full factory warranties. Earlier Polestar upgrades have cost ~800€ in Sweden. I will definitely upgrade my upcoming V60 T6 for that price.
Hey! thank you so much for posting this, I am planning to buy a car right now, really undecided between this because of its performance and safety - versus the performance and brand name given from Audi / BMW. Since practically everybody owns a BMW out there though, I suppose it loses the premium status now.
I was wondering.. how is the S60 road presence? Do you get a lot of comments from friends / pedestrians?
@derek400004 Everyone loves the car. Mine is red with sports appearance and that looks fantastic. People watch what type of car you have, and when overtaking someone, I am mostly followed by their eyes.... That's typically all that follows... Blazing fast in normal 300hp and cornering goes well, although I am often surprised when the ESP or vector cornering comes in, but I suppose you can minimize that with turning off DSC.
@ThirdLife86 i get what you are trying to say haha, but i'm just thinking.. if i'm getting a new car finally (my current one has been here for the last 11 years), shouldn't there be something *new* about it? why should I get a car that would just blend in the crowd with other cars? it's not like the price tag is cheap!!
Volvo's turbo's are amazingly fast! That's why when they did have the V8's they thought why should we have these when are Turbo's are just or more faster then our V8's! Thanks for the video, were thinking about buying one and this really helped out! +1
I must say that this car is very fast. Perhaps not so much from the line, but once it's driving, it's acceleration is unstoppable... It is made for the highway, the sprint from 50 to 80 is very quick and the grunt from the acceleration at low rpm is fantastic. You will not regret driving this car. A great combination between dynamics and comfort with great seats.
Is there a problem with the electronic speedometer?. because at the 2nd attempt, when u have reached the 70 MPH, the electronic speedo shows 99km\h.

@supervicioustheband I think the default 300 and 330 might give you a faster car, but at the end of the day, still amazingly safe. ;)
