haha Love it :) It IS funny, you have to admit it. I'm a fan of JD, I love their music and agree with everything bigabefree said.
We should stop making fool out of Ian, and when I say that I mean we should stop thinking of him as a tortured soul, who was ALWAYS soo depressed, and admit that at the start he was a "normal" person, liked fooling around, liked black humor, although he was ill and later depressed a lot. He doesnt deserve our pity, he was a human and not an object you can worship.
why people think this is an injure to JD...I love this band more than any other, its music is part of my life and i admire Ian so much....but this makes me laugh, and i guess so would Ian.
it is silly, but it lives, the kids need to know about this man, for no one since has affected me so, he was cool without trying, in todays scene thats impossible, you do not have to glitter to be gold, and he proves that. all respect to him and his family, he deserves so much more than we could ever give.
looool man this is so great, i seriously love joy division but this cracks me up, the trumpet sounds like my mother xD shes deaf so speaks like that trumpet lmao
"Oh how could you?! The sheer blasphemous indecency!!" This is nothing to get upset about. It is simply a poorly edited but nontheless mildly amusing youtube video. I actually found people's reactions funnier than the video. Those offended by this probably mostly comprise of either uptight, ageing original fans with no sense of humour or a bunch of depressive teenagers who bum Joy Division way too much. Btw this comes from a devoted fan who loves and feels much indebted to their music.
okay first off, sorry if i offend anyone and second, don't always take yourselves so seriously.
This is good, I mean they were (and in many ways are) a good band, but that doesn't mean you have to take everything surrounding them seriously. Its funny because its so bizarre and random, and it almost 'works' because of the black and white, ect., the point is though. Take it for what it is, funny, and don't act like everything has to be serious.
you fucking clown fuck off u weirdo what shite r u into u desecrating bastard why put jazz to a respected group like this u fucking creep must be bent fuck off.
this is funny, i love and respect joy division, but you gotta think they'd have a laugh at this too. very funny, dont worry about the negative comments.
Brilliant. Really, brilliant. I'd never had thought of connecting Charleston Jazz with brass instruments with an English new wave band from the 70's. This is truly a posting of a genuine creative mind. Ian Curtis would have fallen off his chair laughing and give this fellow a big pat on the back. A BIG pat on the back. It might break his back, but it wouldn't harm anyone, would it?
@0mgwtfbbq21 That's a load of crap. The other band members say he was, most of the time, happy-go-lucky and up for a laugh. This 'Miserable bastard' image is wrong

Jesus fucking christ: i post one fucking comment in the respect of Ian Curtis and everybody gets pissed at me.... if u dont like my comment, KEEP IT TO YOUR FUCKING SELF
Finally, I'm not a goth and don't wallow in self-pity but, quite apart from the content of their lyrics, Ian's story is an extremely tragic one that has affected many. Get a sense of perspective!
And don't give me that s**t about 'lighten up'. I've got a good sense of humour but to equate your sense of humour with that of the band is another cheap get-out-clause from indulging in a sick act of schadenfreude. Yeah, Ian's dancing's funny when you're a kid and you see it for the first time but adults who really appreciate what the band did for the music scene tend to show more respect. They leave it to a one-liner.
lol. some people take things way too seriously. i love how you're quick to point out the fact that you're not a goth when nobody even asked you. that's way funnier than this video.
my advice to you would be to sort it out and follow in the footsteps of ian. better yet, post the ordeal on youtube so i can reupload it with the benny hill end credit music.
sort it out, stephen. quit crying and go back to playing oblivion, you lonely sod. thanks.

I feel the need to educate you a little on some matters.
1) Goths, emos and even Joy Division fans have been known to be too morose for their own good. Therefore the comment is valid because if people assume this they will dismiss a valid argument that simply argues against this distasteful, misjudged content. As said, I can see how it's funny initially but there's a strong argument suggesting that his dancing was related to his epilepsy. I know people myself who have died of such things.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
2) Here are some facts. My name is not 'Stephen'. I don't know where you're getting that from. I have played Oblivion but not any more because I prefer getting creative and socialising in my spare time. Perhaps I should have said 'I'm not lonely' as well to save you from making a different assumption to the one above.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
3) Do you understand the words 'empathy' and 'reason'? The first acquaints you with the mental state of the person being talked about here (and deserving more respect). It also helps you to see another's point of view without recourse to petty-minded insults. The second helps you to construct a cogent argument by looking to observed truths.
4) Notice I said all that without having to insult you or relish your demise.
Some of these lot must hate to actually hear Joy Division interviews, such as on 'Let The Movie Begin' - to find that their 'God' Ian Curtis liked a laugh. Get over it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's taking the p**s and it's a c**p joke. It's very well documented that his stage style mirrored the epileptic fits he suffered. Ian's experience of epilepsy in himself and others inspired him to write She's Lost Control.
It's only my unwillingness not to get my account barred that's stopping me seriously swearing at this insensitive prick who's posted this up for a cheap (like 'as hell') laugh.
It's stupid, but it made me laugh for a second there. And btw, this guy is not making fun of JD, so get over it and try to have a laugh once in a while...
But then I was sitting back thinking if I was in a room with ian and JD and this was played to them in 1979 they would have all rolled on the ground luaghing .

ian wasnt always serious. if you read all the biographies he himself even said the way he dances is wacky.
when peter hook tried the dance in front of ian. ian started laughing because he thought it was funny.
