why didn't it fill the frame? How did you export the file. I'm thinking of buying this camera but does it not operate in full HD when you edit the file?
While shooting in dark situation, over exposed might be a good idea for those small ccd palm size camcorder. Now you are sacrificing the contrast and color satuation of a good prosumer camcorder which can offer.
The XHG1 has HD-SDI output through BNC conectors, and timecode out for linking to other cameras and doing multi cam shoots. Optics are exactly the sames.
Hey you're videos really good thanks for posting it. I have a question about the color correction are you doing that in post production or is it all standard? I can't seem to get my XH-A1 to get the b&w backround with my selected color I can only get it to stand out.
Im having a hell of a time achieving good depth of field with my new XHA!, and I see you've done a fine job of getting proper soft focus on some backgrounds. Any tips? Thanks in advance.
Everyone needs to click the "more info" button, most info about the video is in there. Yes its all at 24F and its HDV.
The shake is just because it was a run and gun shoot, and I had not tripod. I should have used the smooth cam feature on some of the shots, but it degraded the footage if the shake is too bad. It would of looked worse if I put the cam on my shoulder... haha.
"manual" is how u spell it, you spelled it like "manuel" the name.
but i like the footage, and i think that im going to get the xh-a1.
and i also use FCP studio 2.. which is actually final cut pro 6, as i read in one of your comments, you said final cut pro 2... and i know that you know, i was just pointing it out.
See my note under "About this video" where it says "No color corection done in post, except for the shots where I use the limit effect." Otherwise its all untouched. I guess if you mean the shots I set in reverse mabe, but otherwise the color is true to the camera.
How did you manage to isolate the yellow with the Black and White? Did you directly record with that setting (if there is) in the camera or did you edit it like that? If you did any of thee two, how do you do it??
I'm not sure which NLE (non linear editor) your using. I use Final Cut Pro 2 and if you apply the 3-way color corrector to the clip you want the effect on and use the limit effect drop down at the bottom you can "limit" the filter to desaturate everything but one color.
Use the droplet tool on the 3-way color corrector to sample the color you want to keep, change the matte to show that color in all white, then adjust the color, saturation, and lumanace sliders until what you want to keep is all white. Then drop the saturation slider on the color corrector to take all color out.
If the color you want to keep bleeds into other things too much (aka. stuff you want black and white has too much yellow) you can then copy the clip, line them up on separate tracks frame acurate, then apply a 4 or 8 point garbage matte to the top clip so the bottom clip, (which you will apply the desaturate effect too), will "show through" the top clip hopfully leaving you flower yellow and eeverything else black and white. There is a good video on lynda dot com that shows you how to do it.
The xh-a1 has some color correcting features where you can make people look purple (not its recomended use) but I did the limit effect all in post with the 3-way color corrector.
I know apples Color is way more powerful but I havent read the manuel yet so I'm sticking with what I know.
Your editing and camera setup leaves a lot to be desired i hope you don't sell these cameras

Ya, this is before I discovered the wonders of user presets and specifically the Stephen Dempsey "Pana Look" and "VIVID RGB" presents.

That was awesome.
You have some very nicely composed shot there.
Love to see how it looked before uploading to youtube, as we all know what youtube does to our footage.

Don't be afraid to zoom in, and go manual. Keep the iris open, gives you more blur.
