No, it was Cosworth BDT, derived from Kent block. 1.8 litres, and Garret 3/4 turbocharger. B-group use evo 1 versions had 1.6 bar boost and around 450 bhp. Evolution 2 version had as much as 600. Road legal homoglation versions had 250, some had factory upgrade package which boosted the power to 300 bhp. These versions went 0-100 km/h in around 3.2 seconds.
@vaporazor BDT was planed for the RS1700T RWD escort rally car mk3 but was droped because audi had just started rallying the 4WD quattro so droped it in a RS200

The Engine would take more than 10hrs of abuse! "Mr Jeremy Charles Robert Clarkson" would say 10hrs and it would need to have a rebuild! Look at this! Group B was running when the Lombard RAC rally was five days long and they were running them hard for around 10hrs! Then that was the end of the Rally.... So they would be rebuilt for the next to be on the safe side!
watching these videos. How much power did the road going version have? Was it 300hp? This car was awesome, one of my fav rally cars. I've only ever seen them before at Ford shows, so it was awesome to see it on the road making a Vauxhall Astra look stupid!
WHAT? The car was built completely by FORD TEAM RS [which is completely ENGLISH] it was designed in England too. The engine is a ford engine, with a cosworth cylinder head. Blocks ranged from 1.8 litre to 2.3 litre for the evo works cars. The 1.8's were bored out 1.7 BDT blocks from the RS1700T project that got cancelled.
What do you mean "ford slapped the badge on" - what the fuck are you talking about? Eh? Idiot.
@LIP15 i have a green mini clubman estate, roofrack, Allycat (white) wheels from me mums 1981 Brian Mills catologue, and it can eat this, in reverse. its the one with the jet engine in the back ;) lol
@LIP15 body designed by Ghia! Carrozzeria Ghia SpA (established 1915 in Turin) is one of the most famous Italian automobile design and coachbuilding firms, established by Giacinto Ghia and Gariglio as Carrozzeria Ghia & Gariglio, located at 4 Corso Valentino in Turin. In 1970, he sold his shares to the Ford Motor Company
i know exactly wot u mean m8 same reson i wached it on a track maybe a couple cars would spin and if wee wer luck 1 would flip in rally cars are takin out trees n doing masive jumps nothing compares 2 the old days of rally sport
all wheel drive . in the 450 hp it would run 1/4 mile in 10.2 race trim could be up to 750 hp . one of the fastest rally cars ever biult and a lot of these were street driven. smaller in person than one would think.
No its because its running at its tolerances to create works spec power... its meant for racing, same as a formula 1 engine. They are NOT road cars in the slightest!
Here in melbourne australia, Rob Sherrard owns a rs200 evolution that pumps out 537kw or 732bhp. Does officially 0-100kmh in 1.8 secs, verified in SPEED magazine australia march-april 2005. Houston check for ignition and lift off!
